@tobielesch5 жыл бұрын
A comment from a South African retired woodwork teacher: The Stanley handle used for the hammer actually belongs to the chisel you showed. Chisels with those handles never rolled off your workbench. In South African school we used three sizes : 6mm, 13mm & 25mm, our equivalent for your quarter, half & 1 inch. The Bastard file does not reflect on you - its a coarse file! First cut or second cut.

Beautiful hammer! Love how the cap line disappears. I take it for granted that almost all of my hammers are marked directionally. I can pick up about any hammer and just by feel, can tell you which face is pointing down. It did take a few years to trust that feeling. Everyone should notch their hammer handles.
@ScoutCrafter5 жыл бұрын
HKF! You are so right! When you are working on a project and have to keep your eyes on the prize when picking up a tool it's so nice to have positive registration so you don't have to look at the head of the hammer. I had a friend who had a small button screw in the handle of his hammer so it always fell in the same spot on his hand...

Hi Alex! Believe it or not Brass can be tricky to turn because the copper in that alloy wants to grab your tool! If you can try some Aluminum or even better yet some plastic! When you did the reveal, I said WHOA out loud, John. What a nice job! I've polished Plexiglas on a buffer. I guess acetate is different from acrylic. There's a company called Eastwood. You've probably, heard of them. They used to sell a loose string buffing wheel for things like taillight lenses. They're supposed to be more gentle on plastics. I've never tried them, though.
@ScoutCrafter5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! Yes! You can buff plastic but like you said you need a very soft buffing wheel and the right compound. I have those but always worn people because most have the hard wheels on their buffers! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Loved making of the replaceable face hammer! Now you should do a quick video about making the soft faces; like brass, copper, lead and plastic for your hammer. Just a suggestion for a video for those types of hammers. I enjoy the videos, I'm thinking how would i finish that tool if I was to "clean it up" myself. Needless to say after working 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic, my toolbox is the size of a compact car and my tools are needing some love from the lack of daily use now that I've retired, 13 years ago that was.

That hammer came out as a real jewel. Years ago a hardware store went out of business where I lived. It was one of those places that had everything and some old timers who knew everything. I bought a couple of kerosene road flares. Remember those round things with a large wick that would be set out when part of a road got washed out? I've still got them. When one of those stores goes out, they are real gold mines. - Kathie
