I think I remember Paul Harvey talking about the guy who invented the Vaseline 😂how he ate a teaspoon full a day and lived very long. I started eating it too for about 6 months with no problems, except when I would sweat, I would get a high polished sheen on my bald head.

Scout, I was actually a sales rep for Chesebrough Ponds for about 15 years during the late 80’s and 90’s….sold thousands of jars of Vaseline….was even there for the introduction of Vaseline Lip Therapy! I bet we sold 10 million tubes of that product…interesting fact: Horse racing tracks purchased hundreds of pounds to wipe the horses down after a workout, and electrical company’s used it to grease small parts!

I look forward to your videos John. Great ideas and excellent presentation. We had a jar of Vaseline in the workshop and used it as grease for the ball bearings in our bicycles. Great stuff for burns and scrapes too. I have bird houses scattered around the yard. Most of them are painted pine. Ryan made several in his 8th grade shop class. The last shop class in the Union City School system. I rebuilt one of Ryan's about 5 years ago and the rest are brought into the garage over the winter. I really like the squirrel feeder. Thanks for the tips. 😁😁😎😎

Well I came to mention fire starting as another reason to have it in your survival kit. It seems 20% of the comments beat me to it, BUT no one mentioned WHY you want to use it as a fire starter or how. If I were separated from society, had vaseline and a method of getting fire started I would also want to take some, rub it on leaves, thin kindling and other starting tinder, and seal it up as best as I could to keep it dry. If I needed to get a fire in rain, then I would go to the sealed container with starter tinder lightly covered in petroleum jelly, and get a fire started as best I could. Having it lightly covered in jelly would keep the interior of the wood, grass, leaf, bark scraping or what have you dry inside, and the petroleum would provide the additional fuel energy. In short, used wisely petroleum jelly will assist in overcoming wet conditions in fire starting.

Wooden spoons and spatulas are well recieved. Tell you a story of vaseline. Back when I was a 12 years old my horse got spooked and ran through a fence. She ended up with an upside down l of hide cut back from her face. I had know idea what to do and couldn't afford a trip to the vet. My uncle told me just clean the wound well, put the flap of skin back in place and coat it daily with vaseline to help heal but more importantly keep the flies out of the wound. That heeled so well that you couldn't tell it ever happened. Better than when I got it in the face and had a plastic surgeon stitch my face up.🤣

Hi Hook! Unfortunately everything I make I make according to the scrap wood I have on hand. I always design my projects on getting the most out of the wood with the least amount of waste. For example, when I was making the bird houses if I wanted to make 6 and I had a nice piece of pine that was 6 foot long the birdhouses would be 11-1/2 inches high that would give me 6 pieces and allow for kerf loss. 😃👍. For some reason I always seem to work better without plans. 😂

Great gift ideas. If you're trying to weatherproof outdoor wood projects, I'd highly recommend Helmsman Spar Urethane. (I've always used the brush on, but it does come in an aerosol as well.) It has U.V. blockers and forms a tough clear shell. It'll "build" quickly with additional coats & is often used in several/+ coats over hardwood commercial bar tops. I've used it on Wheelbarrows, various tools, mailboxes, house number plaques, e.t.c... It's my go to product for heavy duty weatherproofing, & will take alot of impact/abrasion abuse without flaking/scaling. Not sure how it'd lay over paint, though I've put it over several different types of stain & it turned out well.
