Ibis are so maligned. They are magnificent birds, I love them. My heart aches for what has been taken away from them and the suffering that has resulted. Their treatment reminds me of the shameful way that we have treated not just the wildlife, but the First Nations people of Australia as well. Take their resources mercilessly , then blame them for the suffering which results. Ibis have a special place in my heart ❤

I live on an island with a large number of White Ibis and I've never seen one in a bin. They do visit houses that feed Curlews and other birds, but they are the most shy of them all and stand back. i'm very fond of them. Odd thing though, I've never seen juveniles either. The Curlews bring their babies to visit at a few days old.

I am and always have been an ibis defender. Poor things lost their homes, narrowly avoided extinction by humans (which very rarely happens) and now they are just hated :(

Yeah it's not their fault they became 'bin chickens'. They've just adapted to the environment they've found themselves in.

Love your commentary, mate - spot on! We have this bin chook who likes to pinch our chook's feed, but since the chooks are on hols now - no more eggs, they're done - might as well the ibis gets to enjoy as well. Hope you do a video on the kookaburra. I reckon your videos are right up there with zFrank's: you have a great sense of humour!

I’m big Ibis fan. Love them. Some shop owners almost make pets of them. The Buddhists give them snacks. If they know you they will be very tame and follow you around. Long live the Bin Chicken.

When I lived in Florida, I frequently saw American white ibises. Unlike the Australian white ibis, the American ones have heads covered in white feathers like the rest of their body. Their legs and beaks are bright red, and their eyes are sky-blue. They’re wonderful little birds that help keep lawns pest-free. Surprising to hear that Australia’s white ibises are viewed with such disdain.

I love white ibises. Especially when they freak out tourists! I had no idea they'd learnt how to safely predate cane toads, so thanks for that. Which university are you studying at?

White Ibises are very common now in South Australia - specifically the Adelaide Metro area, and are the urban terrorist, beating seagulls hands down in the picnic raiding forays.

Your channel is absolute gold mate! Came here from a recommendation for your plover vid. :D The only thing I have against ibises is their smell. It's not the smell of a bin or whatever, it's like a really uniquely scented soap that's a bit pungent. Also, love the reference to the recent news where a Viet man tried to eat one :'D

I don’t understand how people can find the Ibis to be ugly. Long legs and long beaks are beautiful in many species, flamingos for example.

15:38 idk where this gull slander comes from, all the seagulls ive been around have been pretty cautious around people and usually don't approach food unless it's been thrown towards them or has been left out

The ones in the UK can get pretty aggressive. Depends on the species, some are a lot larger and more willing to just take shit from you. Ones in New Zealand are medium-sized for Gulls, and normally wait, or cluster nearby for food.
