Hello. I already applied for my Medicare Card just now, with my Partner Visa temporary 820. They said I'll wait 46 weeks for my Medicare Card to be send. My question is, should I ask for my Medicare number immediately?or wait for 46 week?thanks. cheers.

Did you not get a Medicare number once you applied?

They didn't give me anything after I applied. What should I do? Thank you.

Great idea. Has the department mentioned what is happening at this stage with the corona virus. I come to visit my wife here in the Philippine and am suck here under the lockdown. we can't get past the check point to leave our town. Anyway we have been waiting 14 months now for her 309 visa. I am wondering will this current lock down effect processing. If they do process in now, what is the normal entry time limit because from what I seen we won't be able to get to Australia before may.

Hey Animaljammer, I am sorry to hear about your situation. COVID-19 may have an affect on processing times. Did you watch the recent webinar with Emma?

As an Australian citizen from birth (well not quite because I was born in Australia before 1948) and am intrigued by the number of hoops current partner visa applicants are expected to pass through. With the pandemic, I can imagine some Australian citizens having lived abroad for many years in long term relationships, possibly with children and even grandchildren, might be planning to return to Australia with a non-Australian citizen partner. Asking hypothetically, is the processing sufficiently "commonsense" to dispense with mountains of evidence? My wife became an Australian citizen years ago after about 20 years as a permanent resident so my interest is academic.

Hey Richard, if a non-Australian partner of an Australia citizen or permanent resident would like to return and live in Australia on a permanent basis, then they would need to apply for a partner visa and follow the same process as all other applicants. There are no shortcuts.

@@FreedomMigrationAUS I appreciate the partner visa process is the same, but my question is is it *applied* in exactly the same bureaucratic way when the substance of the relationship is unambiguously demonstrated with evidence which cannot be created quickly. E.g., a family tree and birth certificates of children and even grandchildren. On the flip side, as one who has been in the same relationship for nearly 50 years, I would not have some of the expected evidence. This is for the simple administrative reason that in many cases having relationships with third parties (do I mean Telstra?) in joint names can be a chore. Jointly managing contractual relationships as distinct from leaving it to the person best qualified to cope can relate to critical dates being missed. On paper, my relationship might look "inadequate", but in the real lives we occupy, it is simply common sense. In short, have the Immigration robots been sufficiently subtly programmed?

Hi Richard, yes it is applied in the exact same way. Its the same test for everyone.

@@FreedomMigrationAUS How clever is that! When one or two conclusive and irrefutable pieces of evidence exist, all the less persuasive ones must be dealt with too. I'll sleep some much better knowing that the pain is being equally imposed on everyone no matter how long-established the relationship in the national interest. After my wife stepped off the boat in 1968 and subsequently became a PR, there were no formalities.
