Good ol' fashion food-based stereotypes. Since childhood I never understood how people idiotically dislike other people due to their favorite foods, especially if you like eating that same food too. Still, fried chicken may be a black stereotype in the US, but I gotta say I don't care what color you are or where you're from, if you don't like fried chicken something's wrong with you. That stuff is DELICIOUS

Awesome reaction. I had the pleasure of seeing Gabriel in personal February 19th last year with my daughter, her dad and stepmom. He is funny as all heck. We laughed from the time he walked on ththe stage until he walked off 4½ hours later. He was supposed to be done at 11pm but lasted until 12:30am. He said he was gonna be fined for going over but he didn't care. Even turned off the timer. I've been watching him for many many years. I laugh every time even though I've heard the same jokes tons of times. Other really funny comedians I love are... Michael McIntyre, Jeff Allen and Josh Blue. Jeff Dunham is a fantastic ventriloquist.

Fried Chicken and Watermelon is a notorious stereotype. I suspect it had it's beginnings in the great migration of Black Americans when they left the South and took their Southern Foods with them.

Probably exactly how it started.

Growing up in the South, most of these foods were not considered 'black foods' or 'soul food' - they were just food, the sort of stuff you'd take to church pot lucks. In 90 deg F + (33 dec C) weather, a watermelon chilled in the creek was a great way to cool down, get hydrated and replace electrolytes - nature's Gatorade. My (white) mother-in-law grew up in Birmingham in the 1920s and thirties, and they essentially grew up on beans and greens and cornbread, plus whatever fish her daddy caught in the river and fruits from trees in the yard. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and there were some foods that were considered 'black' but that was stuff like chitterlings (pronounced chitlins) and pigs feet.

The one thing you have to remember about this is that it's a southern us thing. Friend chicken and corn bread is a staple down there. Next you need to do some bill burr and bill engvall and Josh wolf and Brad Williams. No reason to hit a woman, weed story (it's 2 part), best prank ever and a wee problem.

I'm a bit late watching this video, so I doubt you'll read this but I can explain the whole fried chicken, sunflower seeds and watermelon thing. The other comments are correct that those are things well loved in the Southern US, but that's not the reason they are considered racist. Chicken was a relatively cheap food source that was commonly used for feeding slaves, and the fried version of it, as well as the watermelon and sunflower seeds, are all things you eat with your hands. Eating without utensils was seen as dirty because your fingers get dirty when you eat them. Grease, fruit juice and salt from the seeds. And slaves were associated with hard labor, or dirty work, so all of that ended up with those foods becoming stereotypical Black person, or back then, "slave food". And that is why those items are racist. As for the Koolaid, malt liquor and grape soda, these are all very cheap drinks associated with those living in poverty, which is largely made up of Black families in the US due to systemic racism. But yeah, that's why this stuff is racist.

It's his best joke although he has his trips to India and Saudi Arabia that made me laugh a lot... something you should understand about this joke is that it's old, that's important because about 10 years ago people's mentality has changed much and almost nothing is considered a stereotype no more. Success!!

You’re crazy. Those stereotypes are still around. People just aren’t allowed to say them anymore. Everybody gets offended very easily these days Everyone just flares up over the smallest things. I don’t consider it a success. I think we’re getting weak as a nation. Paper thin skin.

You can raise chickens in your back yard, and historically, Blacks have been poor, so chicken has been more affordable for people on the poor side of town. So chicken was popular. Same with watermelons (easy to grow) malt liquor, Kool-aid etc.
