The SC decriminalised the law in 2018 and the SC is listening to the SMA hearings now. If you read up the arguments put forth by the govt. you would be glad that there is separation of power in India😅 we have a generally very progressive judiciary.

Just wanna add, most of the street markets are not black markets, they are what we call part of informal economy, they are connected to the formal economy through levels of distributors and sellers which makes things more accessible but slightly costlier, or in some cases directly to the producers in case of vegetables and meats/fish, which is great, we get fresh veggies or meats/fish at cheaper price. This is why in India, it's better to get wet food from local market and everything else from retail, if you wanna get more value for money. On the other hand, black markets are those, whose products have illicit or unknown sources, such as thieves market etc...and yes, they too have presence in India, although those are declining over the years.

It is not uncommon for a non-Indian to feel like an "outsider" in India, but as anyone with some understanding of the world will tell you, it is an universal feeling, not specific to India. You DO feel like an outsider in a place very alien to you. Has happened to me when I lived in countries other than mine. Besides, how locals perceive and react to a foreigner also depends on how the foreigner in question reacts to the locals. My personal experience is that these things are highly reciprocal in nature. Positive people often find positive people. Negative people mostly run into negative people. A white skinned single gay man in his late 40s/50s in India, he is likely very very different from average Indian perception of a man. And so he experienced. I found his experience pretty obvious.

My experience is a little different. If you learn the language of the region, learn to appreciate the food or at least certain dishes and learn at least a little bit about Indian culture, people in India will consider you Indian. This is a big, diverse country, with hundreds of different religions and thousands of ethnicities and people everywhere look different. My uncle was married to a white Canadian woman and people in our community went out of there way to make her feel at home till the time my uncle and aunt both moved back to Canada after four years of living in India. We used to celebrate Thanksgiving day despite hardly anyone here knowing what it was and we used to decorate with French and Canadian national symbols(she had French ancestry). We loved our aunt, so we cared enough to find out what it was and how to celebrate it. My aunt in turn was a great inspiration for me. She was not just respectful of our culture, she actively participated and asked questions about our religious gatherings. You could not but like the woman, and after a week of living with her, we didn't even think of her as someone from a different country, she was one of our own. My mom cried when my aunt had to leave with my uncle and my grandma gave her her most prized posession, her ancestral jewelery which she wore with much pride. My mom has a picture of my aunt in a saree from one of my cousin's weddings in her drawing room, alongside her daughters. That's what she is to her, apparently. She continues to visit us twice each year, despite our Uncle having passed away 5 years ago. She maintains that we are her true family and we concur. Today, she has a successful legal practice in Canada and her and my eldest sister who graduated Harvard Med last year are an inspiration to my female cousins.

I actually agree with the Australian chap to an extant. I would say the people living in the urban areas of India are more exposed to Western or international films where song and dance isnt as prevalent, so sometimes we bring that expectation back with us into any Indian wood film and then get disappointed if they suddenly break into a dance. But for the vast majority for everyday Indians living in rural areas, song and dance in a movies is a critical ingredient int he experience of film watching, ( just visit any theatre with low cost tickets and see how excited the crowd gets when a song track plays, regardless of how dull the story is).

Indian cinema is not just bollywood. All South Indian cinema are on rise. So is ott content.. Bollywood has no formula. Its mere story telling. Songs and dance are not formula, it's part of Indian culture. We have many festivals and ceremonies which have song and dance, that's exactly what's shown in movies when those characters celebrate those festival, wedding etc.

From my personal experiences I always try to see glass half full. Yes be cautious about half empty and stay vigilant but never miss the joy of being somewhere with someone. Sir, I am an Indian, living in Norway for 47 years. This concption of being one of them..is..illusion. I know..my heritage..and it reflects upon me every morning i see myself in the mirror. I am very well integrated into Norwegian society, and have been very well placed in working environment...yet I am different..I look different..I think differently too. I do not think I can ever be Norwegian..nor I want to be a Norwegian. I will alwayds be a foreigner. One example..when ever I meet some one new person..he starts talking to me in English..assuming..I am unable to speak Norwegian. Some times some young person ask me how long I have been here...hehe ! My answer to the young man have been "longer than you have been on this earth".. My advise to you sie..yes..yopu will always be foreigner. Lucky you..that you are white. You get more respect than any other ethnic Indian..on two grounds..1) They assume you are rich and intellegent..and advanced. 2) As a gesture of respect..as a guest in their country..and to behave with utmost respect. But..some..will try to cheat you..when it comes to services to get more money out of you. Yes..India has 15 different languages. HIndi being the national language..but English is the most spoken common language. Hindi is different to learn. I learned Norwegian in 3 months..simply because the alphabets are identical to English and many words are quite similar to english..just twisted around to form Norwegian language. So please Sir, enjoy your stay. Indians are lovely peaceful people. It is my view..as I see India now being in Europe..and USA for last 47 years.

It was really enlightening listening to Glen talk about his life in Mumbai. It is a view of many Westerners (read: white) that it is very difficult for them to blend in Indian society. And there is some merit in this view, which can be perhaps attributed to the two hundred years of British colonial rule in India so much so that a subconscious mistrust of anyone white is deeply ingrained still in the Indian psyche. It does not manifest openly in harmful ways but there is still a distance that people keep, and our own stereotypes of Western culture aren't helpful either. Lastly, one would really like to meet Glen and make his acquaintance.

40 K rent is cheap in Mumbai for 2 BHK• he lives in versova which is cheaper• In areas like powai 2 BHK rent is 80 k to 1•2 lakh•per month• Mostly all head office of Corporates are in Mumbai , they pay mid level and Senior levels 1• 5 lakh plus per month , so that is how high rises get rent from families•

There are various film industries in India, these are the best film industries in India 1) Malayalam from Kerala 2) Tamil 3) Kannada 4) Telugu 5) Gujarati 6) Marathi 7) Bengali 8) Assamese You should see an Assamese film called Aamis that was one of the best movies I have seen. These 8 film industries have churned out 600 films with ratings above 7 out of 10. Then there is a Malayalam film called Great Indian Kitchen which is better than most of the recent Oscar films. I was seeing the list of greatest Indian directors and this is what I found 1) Satyajit Ray who made Bengali films he won lifetime Oscar in 1992. He is to India what Andrei Tarkovsky is to Russia. 2) Mrinal Sen Bengali 3) Adoor Gopalakrishnan Malayalam 4) SS Rajamouli Telugu 5) Guru Dutt Bollywood he was also a niche director in Bollywood.

India is coming out of it's colonial past and trying to forge a new India with it's ambitions so it's has youth, ambitions, dreams, goals and stride to make it big. vii. India is blessed with all different heritage, seasons, foods, history etc. viii. Tolerant/Patience level of the people is to admire. ix. Unexpected growth in technology sector as people are fast catching up with digital economy. x. Transparency in India is very much visible. xi. Flexible inclusivity for all is present. Worst: i. When it come's to politics what can i say. People should talk about implemented policies for the betterment of it's citizens rather than talking shit. ii. Personal hygiene's, cleanness, pollution, traffic jam, noise can be controlled and it is also the duty of people to follow rather than depending on governments. iii. People needs to understand that religion and faith should be followed freely in their homes and should not be used as tool for vote bank politics etc. Once you are out of your home you are an Indian. iv. Reservation quota should be removed and replace it with free quota depending on once competency, hard work, far sited etc. v. There are people who are negative in each and every religion on earth who wants that nations should not be progress so because of such few people entire community should not be judge. vi. Indian law system should be revamped immediately.

As a Keralite, I can assure that, nothing of that Australian guy said applies in my area. For example: (1) Here most houses are big and only 2 or 3 people live in those spacious dwellings. (2) Also in every house, all its residents have a room of their own. (3) Here usually people don't appoint servants at home, no matter whether we are wealthy or not. (However, we appoint home-nurses for taking care of the elderly.) (4) Here nobody says, "No wife, no life". Instead people say, "No wife, happy life". (5) Well, for one thing I can agree with that Australian guy. It is, he said, boys even in their 20s don't know how to fry an egg. Yes, that's true. But that section should also include girls. Because here in our area, both girls and boys don't know how to cook even in their late 20s. (6) Moreover, when we come to his comment of wiping the floor everyday, I can tell you that, we don't even dust the floors more than twice a week, let alone wiping. Usually we take the mop only when some guests are expected to come. Or else, no need. Because, the atmosphere is always fresh and the possibility of accumulating dust on our granite floors is very low. (7) Finally, the matter of black market. It is something very alien to us. Because here people visit only the well organized legally accepted malls and shops. Also, we don't have bargaining system here. We just give the full MRP. *Conclusion:* India is a different vibe.

As a black westerner when I traveled there I found India to be the most filthiest and most racist country on earth. They are desperate to be white and desperate to have validation from a white person, if they get even a whiff that they are not getting validated of their fake glories, they get extremely mad/upset under the garb of 'colonial history '. The black nations in India from Calcata to Madras are particularly racist. The 'maid' system is the biggest modern day from of slavery. Homosexuality (and the LGBT spectrum) was criminalized in India under British rule because Christianity says so. Hinduism accepts gays, lesbians and especially transgenders and intersex people. Decriminalization of that should've happened a long time ago but we were under a very much Hinduphobic government for 60+ years 🙄😾

Thanks Max ….. a most interesting interview from an artistic and creative personality…👍🌺🤩 The guy,, Glenn ,, has perhaps interacted with a certain segment of society … aspiring artists from the middle/ lower middle classes. Obviously they are the creative types who are different in temperament from the intellectual professionals. So …his perspective would be somewhat skewed. Some over generalizations include… - that most Indians live in overcrowded apartments. Maybe in some less fortunate parts of Mumbai. Being a huge metropolis there are many suburbs and many stratas in Mumbai… - you can easily find hi tech equipment for yr kitchen… if needed - among the yuppy culture the male dominance is less prevalent esp if the female is equally educated … - not all Bollywood movies are formulaic ,, and many art movies are serious themed based on the ironies of society’s lives,, topic like social expectations vs individual desires etc,, the struggle of the average man etc - to compare china n india is fallacious as the former is a communist regime whilst India is a living democracy. Overall this perspective is very personal and ,,if not generalized ,,it is still authentic and valid. I will still rate it as an enjoyable and insightful interview! Glen needs to understand India’s history and culture there’s a deep hatred towards white ppl specifically towards the British because India was colonised by Britain and because of that there Indians do hate white ppl in general. I feel it’s cynical India should learn to overcome it
