I want to applaud you on your choice. I had two gorgeous Australian Shepherds; Walker and Mazie. They were my babies and I raised them from two weeks old, their mom had died and a friend of ours gave them to us. They were with me for 13 and 14 years . I thank God every day for my children. I hope to get another one soon. You did a fantastic job by picking this breed. Love him and cherish him with all your heart. Thanks for listening.

I am thinking of getting one of these dogs and I wanted to find out everything to help me make an informed decision to see if this would be the best breed for me. I love the fact that it is a dog I can exercise with. And who will not bark at people on walks but that they protect the home. And is affectionate! Seems a great fit for me! Thank you for the great video☺️

Australian shepherds are a very active breed and they need lots of exercise. The reason why they’re protective is because they are herding dogs so they tend to herd their family too!
@alex-er3ch5 жыл бұрын
they only tend to herd the family when boundaries aren't set as a puppy, training the puppy to have respect for you and family makes any bad behaviour easy to manage

We have a black tri aussie that looks just like hers but much smaller. She described ours almost to a tee. Sensitive stomach issues. It took us awhile to get his diet down. Super smart. Learns tricks so fast. Sleep all day, and medium to low energy. Really shy around most people, and generally really good with other animals. One thing, though, is we're surprised by the lack of shedding from our dog. Our dog barely sheds, but we groom almost daily. Also, you have to be aware of the MDR-1 gene, since it's prevalent in this breed. All in all, my favorite dog breed.

Great video! It’s so refreshing to have a video from a “normal” dog owner and not a self proclaimed expert 😂... Also glad to see I’m not the only one that’s done a lot of research before jumping into this big commitment! Dogs have been apart of my life from day 1 and I’ve owned all kinds of breeds and mixes over my 33 years... but I can tell from this video and others like it that Aussie’s share a lot of traits with German shepherds due to their herding instincts... our German, just like Casper is attached to our hip anytime we get up and leave a room lol... He never lets himself rest for too long without getting up and walking the perimeter of the house to make sure everything is how it should be haha... Germans and Aussie’s have a high prey drive just like most herding/ working dogs... This is great for a working German shepherd in the military or an Aussie that lives on a ranch, but for an urban pet you have to find a way to channel that prey drive so it doesn’t turn into unwanted behavior... What’s done the trick for us is paring mental exercises with physical exercise at least twice a day for 10-15 min at a time... They love to be challenged and all they want to do is work to please us... our mental games are simple, sometimes just basic obedience refreshers, sometimes it’s leaning a new command, sometimes it’s hiding his favorite toy and giving him commands on where to find it... anyways lol... great video, beautiful dog and I can’t wait to get my own sometime in the coming months!! Hope to see more videos!!

I grew up with two Australian shepherds. Not at the same time. First was Coco and then later was Dusty. One thing though is both of them absolutely loved people. Also both of them were not very vocal. As soon as someone would come over to the house both of them would go grab their favorite tennis ball and literally kind of neck toss it to the stranger. And then just wait with great anticipation for them to throw it. I remember at one time a repairman came out to the house. He was working on the water heater on the roof. It was a hot summer day in Arizona. And I remember him commenting to me, "someone has to tell your dog that it's really hot outside" because she wouldn't stop bring back to him the tennis ball.

Maybe its the hair, but looking a bit chunky. Mine is in the pic. Red Merle is my favorite but all are beautiful. My little one is still just a puppy, but she is so bright. Great protectors, velcro dogs for sure. Serious herders, a bit mouthy. Like to jump to your face when excited to be close and can knock you in the nose. Bark a bit more than I like. All of it is trainable to a degree. I would never own another bread after owning an Aussie. Couldn't be happier. Also, worth mentioning. These dogs are NOT great for first time dog owners. Are great with unlimited potential but smarts paired with stubbornness make them a tough train for some individuals. NEVER EVER hit a pet, especially this breed. They are very emotional and in tune with your feelings. Just stay consistent, and what I call friendly stern. They WILL learn! Good luck with any future and current owners. You'll have a best family friend for many years. (Usually about 13-15...)

They are fine, very smart dogs but you must be prepared to make a total commitment. The puppy period is incredibly difficult. Puppies are unbelievably hyperactive and will drive you slowly mad. Use a large dog crate to confine the little monster when you need a break, and for all the other usual training purposes. Never ever EVER hit a puppy (or a dog) no matter how provoked you are. Just put her/him in the crate and walk away.
@karemf204 жыл бұрын
Why you say this. Im nervous now. We have 4 kids and this sunday we go meet our aussie. He is almost 4 weeks old. How is putty phase so hard aside from potty training. My kids will be all over him ans wanting to bond. Do they chewEVERYTHING??
@starlight11264 жыл бұрын
@@karemf20 I hope that you got your Aussie! Ours is 8 months old..thus far, he hff as not destroyed anything, which, for a puppy is amazing. We make sure that he always has something to chew on, whether it be a rawhide toy, dog toy, or soup bones that I boil first. Also, use a crate. Any puppy left unattended or alone for a period of time is bound to do some destruction. I've not heard of stomach issues with this breed..he eats puppy chow with the bone broth, and an egg twice a week. Not to mention the kitty food that he steals from his 2 cat brothers. Aussie are happiest when they are with their people; true velcro dogs. Super easy to train. Keep him challenged with puzzle toys, he/she will love it. They are also quite agile , and prefer to catch a ball or frisbee mid air, just because I believe.

If you get a dog from a very reliable breeder, you will get a good Australian shepherd and in fact almost any kind of dogs. Never get untrained and unexposed adult Aussies from rescue centers. It is extremely difficult to train them cause they are extremely timid, fear aggressive, unpredictable, hypersensitive, hyperactive, strong, fast, stubborn, dominant, territorial, ... Yes these are the traits of all untrained and unexposed dogs. But Aussies and many working dogs breeds are the worst because of their genetics. They were bred to herd cows. They will bark, bite, and chase after any moving objects. If you have no dog training experience, don't get an untrained, unexposed Aussie. It will be very difficult and even dangerous to your kids. Aussies are very focused. If they are trained, they will focus on you and their work you give them. If they are untrained, they will focus on their own work, sniffing and watching around because of their fear and prey instincts, totally ignoring you.

Misguided introduction to Australian Shepherds. This video's misinformation can lead to the common problem of getting an Australian shepherd in an urban environment and abandoning the poor dog after realizing this is an inappropriate environment for a dog bred to work on farms. These are not "chill" dogs.
