This is by far the best explanation of a Dual Battery System installation I've seen. It's a long video but this bloke is articulate and gives enough detail to allow most people to get the job done. I ordered his battery and battery box plus wiring kit and it arrived in Maitland just two days later from Townsville! His kit is marginally dearer than some others on the market, but he got my business because he convinced me that with his kit, I could fit it up myself, and it was a piece of cake. I don't usually recommend one bit of gear over any other, but I am unusually impressed by both the video, and the supply of the kit.

Another video from this company appeared on my feed, which led me to this one. I have watched literally hundreds of these types of videos, (all professing to be aimed at the absolute beginner), but have never been able to get my head around the information they are giving. This video is by far the BEST I have seen. I'm a 70 yo female and have no idea what so ever about batteries or solar, but a great desire to learn. All other videos say...."then all you have to do is connect this to that".... You actually SHOWED me how to connect this to that. I've just ordered one of your 3000 W inverters, ( same price as a 2000W from any other company). I have my own battery and solar panel, but did not know how to go about setting anything up. Please keep up this level of tuition, it's not enough to tell people to do something, a lot of us need to be shown in detail, which is what you did.👍😀👍😀

Videos like this one are why KZbin rules! Over the past two decades of my life, I've walked into countless vehicle customization shops asking to build a system just like this. All I've ever gotten are blank stares, recommendations for unwanted products and generally no clue of what I was asking for. There are other options which he doesn't mention such as the diode based split charge units (old fashioned) and intelligent split charge units. The latter is fully equivalent to a DC-DC charger although wiring it up is more intrusive.

This is an awesome guide for people who aren't sure about setting up their 4x4 or caravan etc. I watched this a few years ago when I was setting up my rig as I had no idea what I was doing. I keep coming back to this video for reference for add-ons to my current setup. Some great info about solar near the end too. You have kings selling solar kits to people who probably don't know about regulators and controllers and the staff have no idea how to advise technical setup. Great video!!

I would like to make a small note though: In Europe, and possible elsewhere, there is one spare wire in the 7-pole cable between the car and the trailer/camper, and in a 13-pole cable two spare wires; designed specifically for powering auxiliary devices such as a battery-charger/DC-DC converter. These wires are most commonly 1,5 mm2 (16 AWG) in a 7-pole cable, and 2,5 mm2 (14 AWG) in a 13-pole cable; and is often used for powering a DC-DC converter or battery-charger on the trailer where the voltage sometimes will be as low as 9-10 volts. I have also seen such setups for other purposes, like say an electric winch on a boat-trailer, an electric pump for powering hydraulic devices, and other such applications.

Sarajevo Valter Yes, as long as you keep all 4 auxiliary batteries connected in parallel to maintain the 12 volt system (if it is 12 volt?) and as long as the DC-DC charger is capable of handling Lithium batteries, which are unique when it comes to charging requirements.
