Naomi was so strong mentally during this final, many players would have totally collapsed after losing the 2nd set/after missing 3 match points in a row, but she hung in there and managed to calm down to win this decider. Great champion.

Congrats to Osaka on her 2nd Australian Open title! 2 years ago it would take her around 5 GAMES to regain composure (5-5 on the 2nd set to lose it 7-5 and then the following 3 games to be 2-1 in the 3rd set).... In the last SF against Serena, it only took her 1 game to re-focus on her game. You should be so proud of yourself Naomi!!

Yeah I was thinking that also. I play tennis and I’ve had matches similar to this where you are very close to winning but then lose the opportunity and it’s so so tough to recover, and I’m only playing at my local club! Nothing compared to a grand slam final.

To be honest watching this back I have no idea how Osaka recovered mentally from losing that second set, it’s so tough to recover from knowing you were that close to winning. Like she was literally crying at the end of the set so to reset is very impressive! I really hope Kvitova can win another slam too.

@@zackd2852 She was at home when a home invasion occurred. The robbers had a knife and she blocked the attack with her left hand and got cut. The robbers got away but it was obviously a horrendous event. It took her over a year to recover. She's still dealing with it but looks like she's doing well. Playing some great tennis along the way.

I have loved Osakas game since she first played Serena but when kvitovas game is usually on , some of the whoppers she hits, really takes my breath away. only Serena could do some of those belters which skid off the courts but Petra literally wipes some shots cleaner than Serena ever could pity petra has never been a consistent champion
