Thank you for understanding.

... against Croatia, of course! And that is not just "a joke", that is historical truth. You continental central european people seek direct approach to the Adriatic sea, don't you? And Croatia as an independent state is just an obstacle to ypur ambitions. So, you don't want that Croatia as a political entity and an sovereign state even exist. You would rather provoke (again!) new World war to 'reset all'...

How about "United Provinces of Danube-Carpathia?" It would be a Constitutional monarchy with an elected bicameral parliament. The upper house is structured to represent the shared/equal power of the provinces, while the lower house seats are apportioned by population. In other-words, a legislature structured like the US Congress, except with a Prime Minister as head of government and Emperor as head of state. The capital would be Budapest since the city is more centrally located.

@@theprezydent6250 It is a long story. Religion across history was used to supress us. In 9th century, it was german catholic priests who chased away scholars of byzantium empire, who were spreading faith in slavic language. In 1405, it was german priests who burned alive a church reformator, who wished just for church to give up earthly possesions - partialy. It caused an uprising which lasted for a few decades, and chased away several crusades. But the ruined society caused the fall of former major political player of Holy Roman Empire, the Bohemian kingdom, into hands of Austria´s monarch. Habsbuks were hard sided with pope, which resulted in suppresion and expulsion of protestants, causing an exodus of many who could afford it. That lead to nobility being replaced by trustworthy ones, emperors friends. Suddenly your lord was diferent religion, could not speak your language. Since the monarchy was quite backwards, peasants had no rights for very long. Meanwhile catholic church was cooperating with state against people to supress any dissent. When czechoslovakia was established by treaty in 1918, it took over a year for vatican to acknowledge us. All of this was happening while you were forced to pay taxes to church, which contributed by nothing to society. A few schools and hospitals were not worth the investment. Since they were cut of income, religion started slowly decline. It was sped up in 1948 when communist party took over, but honestly, there was no great support for religion, since it is no secret that catholic church in many cases sided with nazis. This development is the exact opposite of what happened in poland, where church sided with people throughout history.

Following the failed 1848-'49 Hungarian Revolution against the Habsburg rule, both Austrians and Hungarians came up with ideas as to how to more firmly unite the empire, whilst giving everyone their respective rights and autonomy. These plans coalesced in terms of solutions, despite being created within the knowledge of the other: Hungarian noble and exiled revolutionary, Lajos Kossuth came up with the idea of the Danube Confederation, which would've reformed the country into a democratic commonwealth, while in Vienna, the idea of "Greater Austria", the federalization of the empire was brought up. The first step in this direction would've been the introduction of Trialism, which would've included the Kingdom of Croatia (which was considered a part of the Kingdom of Hungary at the time) to be on the same legislative level as Austria and Hungary. This was firmly opposed by Hungarian nobility, and with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand (heir to throne, and the main proponent of this reform), and the outbreak of WW1, it could never be realized. I suppose a modern version of Austria-Hungary *could* be simply called the Habsburg Empire (in the same vein as Saudi Arabia is called, well, Saudi Arabia), but it seems more likely that the Danube Confederation (or Confederation of the Danube) would be the name to go with. The new empire would be a federalized commonwealth of it's constituting countries, with a joint military force, and interlinked industry, agriculture, infrastructure and commerce (as well as independent, sovereign institutions and additions to the federal services). It's "level of federalization" would be somewhere in between the EU and the U.S.A. - close knit, but with each member having a great amount of independence. Should the emperor return, but not be crowned as the ruler of any of the countries - i.e., he would be the ruler of the Empire, but not the Emperor of Austria, or the King of Hungary -, the imperial states would be dubbed "crowned republics", keeping their democratic system, but with the emperor replacing the position of the "president of the republic". Even if the monarchy is restored, it would only be a constitutional system, similar to the United Kingdom's. The flag would have to be either a tasteful amalgemation of all the colors and iconography of the flags of the constituting states, or something based entirely on flag of the Habsburg dynasty.

The habsburgs simply occupied hungary, stollen the Holy Crown used the weakness after the big long fight with the ottomans! If the nations of the former empire would have known what happens to them after 1918, they would have stuck together, no matter who hates who, it would have been a thousand times better than german invasions and 4 decades of communist dictatorship. I could imagine it, that if they stuck together, the empire would have become a(sadly) Vienna centered union (e.g. united states of central europe) and the economy would have become one of the best in europe/world. The way in which the United Habsburg Monarchies (?) would be run would be very complicated, but I speculate: An Imperial Council (Reichsrat?) in Wien as a federal parliament with a Chancellor as the leader of a government, and Local Parliaments (Austrian, Hungarian, Croatian, Czech, etc.) with local governments to act on a autonomous level. Each of the local governments should be headed by an elected viceroy (called Ban in Croatia). Imperial Council is elected every 6 years, and local parliaments every 4. Actions of the Imperial Council can be vetoed by a simple majority (51%) of the local parliaments. Their veto can be counter - vetoed by the 2/3s of the Imperial Council with the Emperor-King's blessing. The Counter-veto can be vetoed by the 2/3 of the local parliaments, and this one can't be overrun Now, I myself ,as a Croat, can see myself in a Habsburg Neomonarchy, but only if it is a true, unprivileged, federation.

It's way too late now, the last time that federal state could have been happened was before the lost war. But sadly nationalism was a stronger idea in every nation back then. And hungarian leaders at the time were also very short-sighted, and blinded by the idea of the 1000 year old kingdom of hungary and their pride to support a plan that would give equal rights for all nations in the empire. Yeah, how different our history could have been. But they fucked it up back then.

Meaning no acquisition of Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, Italian, Serbian, or Montenegrin territory etc. These nations which had PART of their territories annexed (as opposed to being fully integrated into this renewed empire) would be fundamentally inclined to take back their territory and reunite with their co-nationals who were now living under foreign rule, separated from their own countries. Poland would not stand by as Krakow is annexed, nor would Ukraine allow Lviv to be taken, nor Romania be okay with half of it's country being lobbed off. Assuming it is just a union of Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia & Herzegovinia, it could theoretically work as essentially a smaller, more integrated and regionalized version of the EU. But eventually, as we've seen with the EU, people would get sick of their nations no longer having full sovereignty and having foreign policy decisions made by other people.

While I can't imagine it as a nation, I can imagine the federation of Danube as something along the lines of European union. The difference is that it would not be open for application and ve geographically specific, there is less countries which makes it easier to maintain and it would likely not try fo have the same currency as that... It’s difficult to imagine, even in an imaginary scenario, that the Czechs would want to be part of anything except their own country, It was difficult to hold the empire together when it existed. Only Austrian determination kept it together, and today the empire would just be a big financial drain on Austria. So Austria would not want it either. And Hungary would probably want it only if they were in charge.

I am Austrian with CZech roots and I think Austria would have made a big, well working union out of it. The biggest problem was the 4 decades of communist governments that ruined individuality, the motivation to work hard and engagement. Today, if you take a look at the former eastern countries, what di you see there? OMV gas stations, Billa groceries, Uniqua insurances, Raiffeisen banks... so the most important economic infra-structure is in the hands of Austrian companies. But they are exploiting more than they do for the people...

As a Hungarian I'd say it's a pretty interesting thought and worth thinking about it. Sure, you could say we'd give up our independence and all that, but: 1: We've already given up that long ago (EU, NATO, all sorts of business pacts, etc...). 2: It's pretty much just about ego. Who cares if it would result in a better life? Obviously we should learn from our past mistakes, give equal rights to all citizens, and all together look past our differences. It would definetly give a big boost to the economy and quite possibly put an end to the bad blood between neighbours.

There's just too big of a gap between the western countries and the post-communist ones. Sooner or later there would be accusations of Austria needing to support its partner states to the east. Sure, the countries behind could be uplifted to about the same level in time, but at what cost?

Language will be the biggest problem. How do you decide which one will be on the governmental papers and which one will be lingua franca? If you choose german (which the most economically and scientifically profitable) Austria will apper to foreigners as the one in charge of everything (even though it's not true). Whith capital in Vienna it'll only solodify their view. I'm from Belarus and my friends and I always run into this problem while talking about PLC which is ALWAYS reffered to as Poland even though Poland was a smaller half of PLC: it's the language of communication and the location of capital that matters. But our situation is even harder, because we don't even have € as our common currency and because Lithuanians hate us for some reason(

Intro for further detail of decisionmaking and thought. Can be skipped. Read on from "Role in Europe the world" below: Thoughtout scenario if the smaller nations and peoples of central Europe would decide to rejoin in a political union under a parliamentary democratic monarchy. (So I left out Polish, Romanian and Serbian people and the historic regions of the empire they lived in because their intrest historically are better represented bey their respective nations and there would be no will for people in galizia for example to join the federation, because the partition of Poland is something that should never occur again, in my view, and I think also in the view ol Polish people themselves. Similar for Serbia and Romanian people in Bosnia, Vojvodina and transylvania) In the case of Trentino and Trieste I decided that Trantino should remain a part of Italy, beasue otherwise you get the same situation a s it is now with South Tyrol but the other way aroung. However, I think that Trieste should be a part of the federation, because the large Italian influence today was largely a result of the last 100 years ad in South Tyrol because tof that you have also quite some Italian speking peple today. Since Trieste is THE history port town of the monarchy, it just made sense. So there are Italien minroities in South Tyrol and trieste (which mostly live there because of the consequences of WW1 the treaty of Saint-Germain and the Italinisation policies of Mussolini. Pf course Italian minorities have to have a special status (schools, guarantedd seats of parliament in regional and federl parliaments and if desired a dual citizenship. further details below.) Role in Europe and the world: Member of the EU. With 68 seats in Eur par (Total new 675 because of less samller and 1 more big country) about 10% of seats. 1 Seat from Italy. 2 steast from Romania. EU enlargement by bosnian regions not inhabited by Serbian paople and Vojvodina regions where Hungarians live). NATO member. Western orientation. (Fringe topic but important for relations to he Middle east and for Integation and Migration in Europe: Building up of an important and pretigius islamic faculty in Bosnia and teaching a liberal European Islam as a blueptrint for other islamic faculties in Europe). This would stop the money sucking effect of Vallachia and Moldova. Moreover, as far as I know Romanians within Transilvania consider themselves to be different to their compatriots living by the other side of the Carpathians. Remedies should be made for both major ethnic groups. But Nagyvárad, Oradea must be Readded to Hungary since currently the County Bihar is devided into two. The capitol would be Kolozsvár/ Cluj Napoca. Referendum must be held wether it wants to join the Empire or not. Erasmus on drugs programs - this would help the future generations to bond and get to know to each other's culture better. Invest massively in infrasturcture, as the road and railwaynetworks were built for each countrie's own needs not for a big empire's This huge project would create an onslaught of inner migration towards the richer teritories. Virtually all of Austria, Budapest, Bratislava/Pozsony, Prague and richer regions of Czechia. This should be taken into consideration and living standards of poorer regions must be increased. A Cohesion Fund that actually works. Wellfare could help the empire through its tense etchnical conflicts. And I would create a completely new flag that is not too complicated. The Capital is Vienna and the state system consist of the two parliament councils, the Abgeordneten Haus (House of Representatives) and the Herrenhaus (upper chamber) which would now consist of the prime ministers of all the regional autonomous territories. The head of the State is the Emperor and all ministers have to be elected by the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives again is directly elected by the people with the system one men on vote. The country is a total democracy and the Aristocracy is representative, however the emperor has a veto right by the election of the ministers and by the election of law, however it shouldn't be in style to use this veto right. The national religion is Christianity and also in school christianity is seen as an important part of the national identity. Bosnian muslims are tolerated but the state is highly against immigration form muslim country and also in Bosnia there is because Gerrymandering a dominance of the Serbs and Croats in the politic of the region of Bosnia. The two great autonomous regions of Cisleithania and Transleithania are under the direct control of the so-called Reichsverweser (Imperial administrators) however there only task is to control that the budget of the Regional Autonomous territories is right and to look that the RaT's not try do discriminators minorities in their territories or think they could split up form the empire. All military troops in the two great Autonomous regions are under the direct control of the Imperial administrators also the SWAT commandos, however for the use of them, a direct order form the Emperor is needed. For the case of War, the House of Representatives has to agree, the upper chamber is only needed for questions like the local education system, the public broadcast fee and similar thinks (like the Bundesrat (federal council) in Germany). The regions in the regional autonomous territories are then again represented in the Parliaments of the RaT's capitals. In these parliaments will also be decided who will represent the respectively RaT in the Herrenhaus. The RaT's prime minister will be elected directly by the people of the respectively RaT and will be in charge for four years (similar to the Imperial government, the members of the Abgeordneten Haus, the Herrenhaus and the Imperial Administrators, only the Emperor is formally in charge for his life time but should abdicate when he is not able to rule anymore. The Austrian Empire is Member of the European Union, NATO, the European Council, the United Nations and many other international Organizations. Also important features of the nation are, that it is very proud on its history, its military, its Multiethnicity, its strict environmental protection laws, its very strict animal protection laws, the monarchy and on its position as a European power house.

I think the Empires of old held the regions together far better than the constant warfare now a days. Like when the Ottomans had the middle East, Iraq wouldn't be a killzone. I think WWI and WWII destabilized a lot of regions just to get rid of Empires who were becoming more constitutional with the times anyways

This was an interesting hypothesis. I liked all the statistics that were presented about this "returned empire" - although I wonder why you listed in the diagram of religions "19% Orthodox" and "2% Greek Catholic". Greek Catholicism is just a synonym for Orthodox Christianity, so I have no idea what type of religion those 2% are supposed to be.

@@Anakunus I know this is confusing, since Greek Orthodox church call itself Catholic. But there is also a Greek Catholic church, mostly in western Ukraine, Slovakia and even in my country, Croatia. Habsburg emperors, being Roman Catholics, faced the problem with many Orthodox people in the territories they conquered from Ottomans in the beginning of 18th century. So, they came up with idea to establish a church that would recognize the Pope but that would keep the eastern rite. So, this became Greek Catholic church (Greek meaning eastern rite, not of the Greek nation). If you don't trust me, search Greek Catholic Church on Wikipedia

There are lot's of opposing sentiments between those states. So I do not think that those proposed forms are managable and It would be disaster in long run. But if you look at current anti-EU sentiment that is growing in Europe and mostly in eastern Europe then you can predict something in realms of Eastern Europian Aliance that would cooperate in trade and military efforts. While also having similar politics again states that are not in EEA but tottaly independent in all other questions conserning states in EEA. I mean creation of something that is simmilar to original EU but is opposing actual EU, that just has too much power and is interfering with independence of instates. Just make trades better and let millitary to cooperate but do not meddle in other staff.

I think it could just be called the "United States of Austria", since the word "Austria" was originally the name of the whole empire to begin with. What we now call Austria is just the part of Historical Austria that is populated by Germans.

Maybe the United States of central Europe. United as a Federal Republic, divided by their current national borders. Being Austrian however I would not consider it desirable to unite, just as you said in the video, there is simply too much disparity between the regions within the new state.

That is also true. In some countries that only partly belonged to Austria-Hungary such as Romania, the parts which were within the Empire still tend to be more advanced than those parts which weren't part of the Empire. Furthermore I have heard that people in the area of the former Empire think back of the last decades of the Empire as a genuinely good and prosperous era, which makes sense considering what came afterwards. Ultimately it is really hard to make even an educated guess, as the existence of the Empire would mean that WW1 would have ended differently, which would have prevented WW2 from happening and therefore much of the World would be vastly different today.

Actually as someone who did some research about early twenty century, AHE staying could make WW2 way worse, because already in the late 19th century, there were way too influenced by Germany and after lost WW 1 war, the influence would be even bigger most likely, therefore Germany would annex them most likely if they refused to co-operate
@alfonsomonsanto6076
@alfonsomonsanto6076 7 жыл бұрын
But wouldn't Germany(Prussia) have taken control over AHE after the battle of Königgrätz 1866, if it would have been valuable to them? As far as I know, Bismark decided that AHE would be more valuable to Germany as an ally rather than as a part of Germany. Additionally if Germany would have won WW1, annexing AHE would not have been in the spirit of a united German Empire, as the population was only 30% German.
@Dollt28
@Dollt28 7 жыл бұрын
@Hans Dolf since Germany had plans for war with France (Battle of Sedan 1870), they didn't want total war with AHE and as you wrote, Bismarck preferred them as an ally, however, Bismarck wasn't leader of Germany in the early 20th century. In case Hitler would become leader again, one of his goals was to "unite all germans in one state" and that would certainly include AHE (he managed to get Austria in famous "Anschluss" in the 1938 and even Czechoslovakia which was kind of sacrificed by France (with them Czechoslovakia even had a pact), GB and Italy via Munich Treaty (known as Betrayal in Czech Rep) and gave Czechoslovakia land to Germany, Poland and Hungary)

And if we speak about PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) differences in the region are even smaller than GDP differences.
