Ingrediants you need to make "original" fried Chicken from Austria
1 whole chicken
1/2 liter of butter milk
1 clove of garlic
salt & pepper
Frying Oil
Lemons
2 eggs
bread crumbs
flour
Break down the whole chicken as shown in the video. Pour the butter milk into a container, add a crushed garlic clove and season with salt and pepper. Mix well, add the chicken and leave to marinade (brine) for at least 2 hours - 4 hours or even over night would work as well.
Heat up a lot of oil (I used around 3 liters) in an dutch oven and heat it up until it has reached 170°C / 338°F - I used an indirect set up.
With the flour, egg wash and bread crumbs, set up a breading station and coat the chicken (firs flour, then egg wash, then bread crumbs).
Fry the chicken for 10-12 minutes until golden brown, dab dry on kitchen paper and season with a bit of salt. Serve with some lemon wedges and enjoy!
So easy to make, but so delicious! Enjoy, yours Christian from COOK WITH ME.AT
p.s. I am from Austria

Heißes Öl auf dem Grill. Mutig. :-) Sonst natürlich top, schreit förmlich zum nachkochen und passt als Österreichisch-Hessische Koproduktion sicher auch sehr gut zu meiner grünen Sauce.

That is excellent, but... what's Austrian about it? That's how I make fried chicken, and I'm from America. Unless you're saying that the original recipe is from Austria, I'm not quite getting it. Still, looks really good, love me some fried chicken.

Well, the Austrian thing about it is, that the Austrians use this frying technique for everything (literally anything from veggies, to meat, to fish to sweets...) and it is a favorite and common dish. Lots of people would say it is an Austrian speciality. Originally this frying technique came from Italy. Historically some parts of Italy have been an integral part of the Habsburg Imperium and the Austrian cuisine features a lot of meals from now much appreciated neighbours and former parts of said Imperium. The "Wiener Schnitzel" comes from Italy, the "Wiener Würstel" comes from the Czech Rep., the Gulasch comes from Hungary, your Bagels were invented by Jews in Vienna, the "French" Croissant comes from Vienna and is called Viennese in French, and on and on... I think the deep fried chicken is fairly Austrian, at least we do this dish for some time, we have 2 or 3 different breeds of chicken, who were created just for this dish. Look up "Sulmhuhn" I can attest, that the deep fried chicken made from Sulmhuhn is the best I have had the fortune of having. 😊👍💜 The famous Austrian Knödel (Dumplings) is maybe the most original Austrian food, different type of Knödel came from regions of the Alpes and are designed to feed people who work hard. So, I hope this explaines a bit the Austrian angle of this dish and I hope it gave you some amusement and information! Cheers! 🙂😎☺

@@KimChi-iy7jd that is not completly correct. the deep-frying technique was not copied from italy, nor did wiener schnitzel originate from italy. byzanz is the focal point of "vergolden von speisen" and the austrians have refined and improved this. only dishes that do not have austrian names such as gulasch, golatschen etc. (max. germanized) have their origin elsewhere.

@@BinGutH I think you misunderstood my comment. 🙂 Almost no dish, which is called "typical Austrian" today is from nowadays Austria originally. I pointed out, that the deep frying methode is very popular in Austria and probably the various different dumplings (Knödel) variations could be claimed as original Austrian cooking technique. If one knows a little bit about the mirads of different variations of Knödel, different cookies techniques and different ingredients, one might agree. So the Byzantine cuisine is the "real" origin of deep frying things... 🙂 Well, bravo! 👏🏼 They did the world a favor. 😉 And as one could have guessed from my first comment, I personally am not a big believer in only one person/group/nation as "the ONLY origin" of a cooking technique... I am pretty sure the Indian cooking tradition knows deep frying, the Japanese, the Chinese, and on and on... And besides, InstrucTube asked what would be "Austrian" about a "Wiener Schnitzel"... a good question in my opinion. I tried to point out that indeed there are various "typical Austrian" dishes, which have historically a different influence or even origin, which is not extraordinär, such famous dishes like the "French Croissant" (as it is called in the US) is also not originally French... which does not exclude, that you will still get the best "Croissant Viennese" in France! Next time you eat your Wiener Schnitzel in Sacher Hotel maybe think about that, that we all profit and enjoy inventions from creative people, who lived before us... and most of them never got "credit" for their innovations. 💜
