Scan tools are funny. They don't always work on cars of the same make the same. Picked up a TopDon AD600. It reads 4 systems on my older Subaru as it should. Plugged it into a 2023 the other day to find it read all 28 modules. That was a pleasant surprise. Still have an Autel, but I don't think it's worth paying a subscription as a DIYer when newer models support newer features, OS, speed, etc. Great video!

Great video. Just subscribed. Currently in the market to upgrade my older Snap On Modis. Looking for suggestions on which make and model to buy. I’m a semiretired shop owner still doing stat emission failures on mainly domestic and Asian imports. And also some European stuff. Brakes tpms etc. so need bidirectional controls . What scanner is best bang for the buck? Some of the scan tool companies have so many damn models(Autel) it’s hard to decipher feature’s between them.

First off. Welcome on board, and thanks for the compliment! I've used both Autel and XTOOL, and either will serve you well. You're right, Autel has too many tools, to the point that the nomenclature becomes confusing. Since you plan to do TPMS, an Autel model that ends with 'TS' e.g. MP808Z-TS will be ideal. There're also the new 909 series (though I haven't used one). For XTOOL the equivalent will end with 'TP' e.g. IP819TP. Both will activate TPMS sensors. They'll also do ECU coding in addition. If you don't need a device with Passthru capabilities, those mentioned above will serve. I haven't used Snap-on before, but I've seen quite a bit of Snap-on users who got these tools above and were impressed at the functionality for a fraction of the cost. When it comes to the choice between Autel and XTOOL, I covered that in a video tagged Autel Vs XTOOL, and could support your decision making process. If you own a 2018 or newer Chrysler product they have put a gateway into the system so you have to have a current subscription to Autel, and an AutoAuth account, which costs $50 for the year, to use your scanner. All the manufacturers are going this route. Autel does not support the 12+8 cable anymore, so that won't work. Ask me how I know.

I am between buying a maxicheck mx900 and the ds 900 but I am not sure if the ds is worth the price and I don't know how much the update costs on both . PLEASE HELP

The main difference I can see is that the Ds900 supports ECU coding while the mx900 doesn't. From 3rd party sites, subscription renewal will be around $259 and $120 respectively.

@DIYAutoworksNG mostly curiosity. Do you notice any difference in the two since being out of date, or before for that matter?. When I was researching my 906, it seemed like there may have been lots of counterfeit stuff out there, certainlyin other brands. But very limited info either way. I made a point of buying mine from a local parts store to be sure, but was curious how much money I wasted, lol
