It's interesting to know how it differs from household to household. My partner is Irish and his granny's recipe doesn't need an egg. Also, she'd have used a lot more sugar than that. 😅

Ma’am… umm, ma’am… excuse me, but you just blew my mind. Two of my favorite pies are Pecan and Buttermilk-separately! Incorporating both flavors together? That sounds absolutely other-worldly. I can’t wait to try and make this!

Hi Gemma, I made this years ago. And now I think I can call it a tradition for my Thanksgiving dessert. My family always enjoys it. Thanks for sharing this recipe! I used to make a pecan pie and a pumpkin pie, but now I can just make one cheesecake! The cheesecake is truly delicious 🙂

How is it a "Traditional Mincemeat" but with no meat?
@biggerbolderbaking
@biggerbolderbaking Күн бұрын
English recipes from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries describe mincemeat as a fermented mixture of meat and fruit used as a pie filling. These early recipes included vinegar and wine, but by the 18th century, distilled spirits, frequently brandy or whiskey, were being used instead. The use of spices like clove, nutmeg, mace, and cinnamon was common in late medieval and Renaissance meat dishes. The increase in sweetness from added sugar made mincemeat less of a savory dinner course and more of a dessert. Eventually, bakers started to make it without meat in it in the last 100 years or so, creating a new tradition.

I tried your other soda bread with just oats. It was good, but a little heavy, but when I toasted a bit longer it was great. Can I make this recipe here without whole wheat, as I dont have any. Never used it. If so any suggestions. Thanks..💕🇨🇦
@biggerbolderbaking
@biggerbolderbaking Күн бұрын
Hi. If you're out of whole wheat bread, You can use 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour instead. Mix until the dough JUST comes together. Don’t over mix or you will have a dense bread. Hope this helped.

You can use heavy cream in place of milk in baking recipes. It is however richer than milk. It is best to dilute it; mix half a cup of heavy cream with half a cup of water to replace one cup of milk. Hope this helps.

Any substitute for eggs?
@biggerbolderbaking
@biggerbolderbaking 2 күн бұрын
The eggs help thicken the filling as well as enrich the flavor. You can use cornstarch in its place, or use other substitute option in my guide on egg substitutes in baking recipes here, www.biggerbolderbaking.com/egg-substitutes-for-baking/ Hope this helps.

I probably spend MYR30 to buy ingredients just to make this to satisfy my craving while store bought will cost me MYR15. At least i get 4 time satisfaction for double the price. Serious question : Why no need to blind bake the pie cruat first? What pies will require a blind bake first vs. those need not?
@biggerbolderbaking
@biggerbolderbaking 2 күн бұрын
And a perfectly valid one. Some pies need a little extra pre-baked love so they don’t get soggy. Blind baking is often used for pies that have a very wet filling like a Pumpkin Pie or a Pecan Pie. Blind baking a pie crust is also necessary when it will be filled with an unbaked filling, in which case the crust must be fully baked like fruit tarts or a Chocolate Pudding Pie. Hope this helps.

Dear Gemma, thanks for the fabulous recipe. As I am living abroad this apple tart would really make me happy, I amnt sure which size of plate I should use, looking at 23-25cm diametre but what depth of plate would you recommend? The tart plates I am looking at are about 3cm deep - would that be enough? Or would you recommend 5cm depth? I would be very grateful for your reply & opinion.

@@totogogocc5526 For a large part of my life wells, and septic tanks were all we had. But, when I moved out on my own I found out the hard way that water isn't free, and now living in the southwest usa during certain months water gets kinda scarce. Also, you pay through the nose for bottled water here. So, when she said her water was free it just took me by surprise.

Is it basically the same thing if I just par bake and then freeze the dough without the toppings? I can build my pizza just prior to baking. Your thoughts please.
@biggerbolderbaking
@biggerbolderbaking 2 күн бұрын
Hi Deb. The main reason frozen pizza is so popular is convenience. If you have to par bake, freeze, top, then bake is not as convenient vs just popping a ready to bake pizza into the oven. You also have the option to make the dough ahead and then freeze it - it will last longer, too. Hope this helps.
