Real world application: My father in law before he passed and his health was failing him, was standing in a restaurant and his legs gave way, caught him.. got in my horse stance and he basically became a chair for him before one could be brought over to him. Keep training.

So sorry to hear about your father in law passing 🙏. It's great you were able to take your training to another level of the life journey. Thanks again for your support and for watching the video.

Lowering one's center of gravity is important for so many maneuvers from shooting to keeping your feet on the ground. I often use this myself. Watching this just reminded me of who taught me much of this. Thank you again Sihing!

The horse stance is super common in wrestling and grappling. I use it constantly in jiu jitsu to break an opponent's structure so I can take them down for example. One of the most common use cases in jiu jitsu is when I manage to get "two on one", or two hands on one of my opponent's arms but really two grips on "one bow" in the sense of the "6 bows", then basically yank whatever I've got a grip on towards the ground between my feet as I sink into the horse stance. When I say yank I mean with sudden bursting power not constant pulling. Pushing a little first and then yanking is usually the most effective in that context. That usually has completely broken their structure and they are almost always super heavy on one foot or another. A ton of simple/standard take downs work from there. An example application could be with a collar tie and inside control on the other side, or a grip at the wrist or elbow and an underarm grip(like doing an arm drag kinda), etc. When I first started learning jiu jitsu my coach was half joking but half serious when he told me I shouldn't bother until I can stand in a deep horse stance for at least 10 minutes. While that was kind of a joke the basic point was that grappling is soul crushingly hard at first until we build up the right kind of strength and endurance.

One thing that gets my goat are MMA fans saying that the horse stance doesn't work. That's just dumb, because you see it ALL the time in the cage, and by that I mean exactly that. ALWAYS.

I strangely see this with Asiatic weapon arts as well on KZbin. It is baffling to see them on KZbin video comments bashing kyujutsu/kyudo when the Samurai’s archery techniques would not be strange to the Mongols, who used the same thumb draw and mounted archery techniques, and formed the single largest land empire in world history. My point, even if something has been shown to carry wide and effective usage, there will still be neigh sayers who say no person of intelligence would have ever applied it.

@theautisticraven3862 correct. I have someone on my video ( fighting backward ) talking nonsense about how everyone does this, but what he is not seeing is my switch stance that creates a host of new techniques to throw. He says how boxing has the most efficient striking, but in reality, it's not the style that is proficient. It's the student who makes that style proficient and great. When I hear people's opinions like that, it usually comes from a newbie who just started training who has limited skills. It's the more advanced fighters who can appreciate someone else's skill and take on the drill. Thanks for your input and comments. I think I will make a new video to maybe better explain what I was showing. 🤙🤙🤙

I do love being able to pull these videos as sources when arguing with someone in KZbin comments about whether Kung Fu is a real martial art or not, and if it is applicable to real life self defense (it obviously is, but some people disagree, and they are objectively wrong lol)

Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, the problem is that a lot of kung fu stylist work forms and weapons but very rarely work the application and fighting of this amazing art. The whole purpose of these vids is to bring to light how effective and practical kung fu is and that we fight and pressure test our material. Thanks again. 🤙🙏

Great lesson Sifu! Horse stance ( Ma Bu) has been proven in real combat. This training will develop mental and physical toughness to teach you to be comfortable with being uncomfortable as you hold different positions to toughen legs. Horse and the other positions are scientifically proven to be the most effective postures for real fighting-combat on battlefield. Horse is foundational principle for effective balance and power for fighting.

In western society we are inclined and encouraged to have opinions, hard opinions on subjects and people we know little to nothing about. I think your channel is not so much about Myth busting Kung Fu, but myth busting the ideas people have on Kung Fu.

I think it is important that you point out that the stance is not about the leg; it is 1% leg, 99% the hip and torso. For example, in 2:04, your leg is actually not doing the attack. Even though the force exertion was located at the contact point between your leg and your opponent back thigh, really it was your hip+torso (the entire cylinder) that was forcefully occupying the space and displacing the opponent's leg. Your leg was just a contact point. The untrained eye might not be able to see that this is true, and so I think that it is important that you point this out. Similarly, in 2:35, the takedown was only possible (against a resisting opponent) if your hip was very close to the opponent...literally hip-against-hip, contour over contour...and only after this could you exert force effectively. Which is EXACTLY what you did. But a viewer who is inexperienced in wrestling who looks at this part of the video will be misled into thinking that the opponent fell simply due to impact from your leg. But that is not what you did... there is a gap between you and your opponent--then there is no gap--then you thrust your hip forward and turn your torso (which relates back to my first point), and the opponent fell because you forcefully moved their center of gravity. We can even see your motion carry through, in a way that is definitely not due to an impact force. So I think you should explain this at least in a short off-hand remark **in case some viewers come along, try doing what you did and fail, then blame you or kungfu for being fake.** Last thing: I think you should put a little warning for the inexperienced viewers about the effectiveness of training horse stance on their own. Without an experienced sifu around to help, one might not make the stance correctly or know which muscle to engage while training. Incorrect posture means ineffective training.
