Thank you 🙏🏽 This sounded very much like a validation of a comment I left on one of your earlier videos. The only difference being that what happened in Brazil hadn’t yet taken place and the focus of my comment was on January 6th, 2021. It was the one that you titled: “We don’t have a political problem; We have a religious problem”..

My grandfather was one of the "old guard" of the Southern Baptist Church. I'm not talking about the Southern Baptist Church as we know it today. I'm talking about the 70's. He was a minister and newspaper editor for a Baptist paper, and he fought for separation of Church and State, democratic principles, inter-religious cooperation, desegregation, and women's rights. When it became clear that the Southern Baptists Church was determined to go this route, he was part of a contingent that left the organization to found a new one. Religion doesn't have to be the enemy of reason or humanism. Given the chance, it can be incredibly healing and supportive of diplomacy, peacemaking, and humanitarianism. But zealotry, the unshakable conviction that you know what's right and you cannot be wrong is disastrous. It can be religious, political, or ideological, but zealotry is easily manipulated and weaponized. When we stop thinking for yourself, we become far easier to manipulate. I don't remember his exact words, but my grandfather once said something to the effect of "God gave me a brain to think with. If he didn't want me to ask questions or think for myself, he wouldn't have given it to me."

The reason why religion can be so easily manipulated is because it’s not based in facts or evidence, it’s not based in reality. It’s based in mythology - and mythology, as with any of the literary arts, can be interpreted however anyone wants to interpret it. I’m a secular humanist. By far better than being religious

Hello from Russia, mr Schaffer. Is God a King? Is He The Host of hosts? Is He the sole Master of His Creation?

Look at kings in the Bible they were surely authoritarian and yet some of them were blessed by God proving that God has no problem with authoritarianism itself as a form of government

@@marcreiter5675 you mean David and other biblical kings?? Well according to the prophets God made them kings and gave them authority over the people they governed.

6:47 Be careful. You might not want to put all your eggs in the basket of science either. That can be looked up to as a higher authority just as much as religion. Scientism is also authoritarian and can’t be trusted. Trading religion for science is probably not a good idea. Authoritarianism is authoritarianism, no matter which package it comes in. The problem is ultimately in the people themselves, not in the perspective., since it’s just the group of individuals with free will and values, who decide which position to take, and then they end up finding each other with the same stance. Voilà! There’s your gelled authoritarian movement. It’s a bunch of people who feel they’re not being heard, so all together they suddenly attempt to seize power for themselves. Some succeed, some don’t. Democracy can go out the window just as fast and easy with secular authoritarianism as with religious authoritarianism. Don’t trust either.

Secular humanism is the key

@@AtheistAgainstChristianTerror: That’s what I’m saying. Secular humanism is a great starter where secular authoritarianism can grow. Don’t trust it. You can get secular dictatorships as you can religious ones. People get carried away with their enthusiasm for either. We need something else more detached and stoic maybe.
