@@allandill2033 Have you read the history, native populations were not genocided, they were wiped out becoz they didn't have resistence to new diseases and less than 2000 were shipped as slaves out of the population of nearly six million. So, though techinacally correct, you lack the historical perspective. Conquistadors also brought Christianity, these people offered human sacrifice of entire defeated tribes, they also brought, horse, and education and healthcare, for every fortification built, they also established a mission, some still operate. You wouldn't be able to step in Latin America had not the Conquistadors arrived. And they would have probably be attacking nations and offering you as human sacrifice if Conquistadors. The change you see has not come by itself.it's the Christianity effect.

@@magatism there were many more slaves than only 2000. Plus, the spanish used slaves in South America, so they really didnt have to export them. And that's not including the "encomiendas", where the indigenous people would be put under forced labor as tribute and rewards for the conquest. The rape children of these "encomiendas" were called "mullato's" and became second class citizens for the Spanish. And also not to mention the Asiento de Negros, which gave the Spanish monopolistic control over the African slave trade and ensured slave labor would reign in the region well into the 1800's. That is what actually happened. Didn't they also welcome the Spanish until they imprisoned Montezuma? I'll make sure not to hold their leader hostage so I shouldn't have to worry about them sacrificing me. I'll just also ignore all of the other major tribes that would be in the region and didn't have human sacrifice. 🙄 Read the book: Lies My History Teacher Told Me. You will realize how much bullshit the "Spanish saved the South Americans" really is based on first hand writings.

Yes. But we've been saying for the past 30 years that schools don't teach civics anymore, etc. But it isn't just the product of those "failed" modern schools that is so clueless. There are so many people who went to school in the 50's 60's, 70's, who think that there will be military tribunals and summary executions of civilians... and they seem to believe that is a _legal_ solution to political differences. The problem isn't the lack of education, the problem is the growing push of extremism and the failure to confront it.

America was founded for the exact reason of freedom of religion and beliefs. Making America a Christian nation in politics is directly contradicting the fundamentals of why people say this is the land of the free. As a new yorker you can have 50 different nationalities living on one single block and THAT is the essence of what america is meant to be. A melting pot of nationalities and ideologies and the freedom to not be persecuted for your (reasonable) beliefs.

(3) It was during Adam's administration that the Senate ratified the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which states in Article XI that "the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion." (The Character of John Adams by Peter Shaw, pp. 17 (1976, North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, NC) (4) Thomas Jefferson, third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, referred to the Revelation of St. John as "the ravings of a maniac" ( Thomas Jefferson, an Intimate History by Fawn M. Brodie, p. 453 (1974, W.W) Norton and Co. Inc. New York, NY). (5) James Madison, fourth president and father of the Constitution, wrote, "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise. . . pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution" (The Madisons by Virginia Moore, P. 43 (1979, McGraw-Hill Co. I agree, government and schools have no place for any religion. Any one religious belief goes against science and goes against other religions. To have it in government would alienate one group or another, it's best left in churches, homes, and individual beliefs. That is what is legal and right for everyone. Not to mention the fact that true Christians would respect and honour every other religion and approach it with open arms. Reminder: love your neighbour as yourself. Part of the dead sea scrolls are remains of those Christians that were killed which historians group as Gnostic Christians because nothing survives of any organization if they had one since they did not believe that a orthodoxy was needed to be Christians, they were peaceful and believed in meditating to escape the hell of our physical bodies. Sounds like we are the same age. I too, grew up Baptist in the 1960's in Mississippi, USA. So, what do think caused this suspicion you spoke of my friend? I don't recall this happening in my area, but I will say slowly but surly, religion in general is being viewed with a certain skepticism. Our first pastor was one of the kindest, most knowledgeable and compassionate men I will ever meet. He was well loved, even today many years after his passing. And his replacement was a man who felt we needed to be scared into loving Jesus! He was quite a fear preacher and slowly but surly saw his congregation decline. What's that saying... "Hate only begets more hate, and love is the only thing that can cure hate." I paraphrase, but, I find this to be true.

Well, yes, the Puritans who arrived in America did escape England because of religious intolerance. However, the Puritans' own religious views were also highly intolerant of non-Puritans. They wanted to create a theocracy, a godly society based solely on Puritan ideas, one in which non-Puritans would be second-class citizens. The fact that they didn't get to do that in England is what they considered intolerance and made them leave for America. This is a theme one can still see in the language of the religious right in the US: when the religious don't get to discriminate people according to their faith, they call that persecution.

I am not an American nor a Christian but I remember the biblical quote "Render unto Caesar what is Ceasar's..." I think that is quite clear about the separation of church and state. @@brainstem2023 Many stories in the bible lack any historical evidence. The Jews enslaved in Egypt, Noah's Ark, a worldwide flood, the resurrection of a savior, etc, lack evidence. Not only that, but research has revealed that many of the stories in the bible are recycled tales from even older civilizations. One notable example is from the Epic of Gilgamesh, which pre-dates the writing of the bible by nearly 1000 years. It contains a story extremally similar to Noah's Ark and the great flood, only with small details differing here and there from the biblical version. The idea a savior in the form of god's son has also been used in numerous ancient cultures long before Christianity or any other modern segmented religion adapted the tale. It's important to realize that these stories have nothing to do with science. A lack of science is actually what allowed these stories to spread and flourish thousands of years ago.

Begun by George Washington, signed by John Adams and ratified unanimously by a Senate still half-filled with signers of the Constitution, this treaty announced firmly and flatly to the world that “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”
@tef_newalbionpacificmedia

"The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature: and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history...It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had any interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the inspiration of heaven, any more than those at work upon ships or houses, or labouring in merchandize or agriculture: it will for ever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses..... Unembarrassed by attachments to noble families, hereditary lines and successions, or any considerations of royal blood, even the pious mystery of holy oil had no more influence than that other of holy water: the people universally were too enlightened to be imposed on by artifice; and their leaders, or more properly followers, were men of too much honour to attempt it. Thirteen governments thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favour of the rights of mankind.” ~John Adams, A Defense of the Constitutions of Government of the United States of America 1787

It was the first treaty between the United States and Tripoli (now Libya) to secure commercial shipping rights and protect American ships in the Mediterranean Sea from local Barbary pirates. It was authored by Joel Barlow, an ardent Jeffersonian republican, and signed in Tripoli on November 4, 1796, and at Algiers (for a third-party witness) on January 3, 1797. I never once advocated for a king. What is so wrong about wanting a free homeland unfettered by foreign dominion ? Do you want Britain to again control Ireland, India, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Kenya, Sudan, Lesotho, Botswana, Northern Somalia, Egypt, Eastern Ghana, Gambia, Niger, etc ? Remember that the british controlled the slave trade many years ago - you cant say they did it for the benefit of the natives. You seem to argue that an independent country is a bad thing. Even England has its fill of the EU and left the 'loose confederacy' that you love. Funny choice of words you had there - In the US, the word confederacy denotes slavery. He told women that their spiritual life is more important that their work in households. He told people not to blindly follow rule but follow their hearts instead. He helped people even if it offended those with traditional values. He insisted that following tradition is not as important as to love. Yes, the state should not be confining the expression of religious opinion. Nor should the church implement a vatican-style church-state. Only one of those realities has begun to manifest, the former. Perhaps the old testament establishes punishments for homosexuality, but, though the spirit of the Law is still with us, the new testament offers redemption and sanctification instead. Christians in general aren't going around and putting gay people on pikes. The most severe action is denial of service, which is no offense at all, as a gay man can go to any other baker for his wedding cake, and the christian baker will be worse off (financially, anyway) for it. The whole point of belief is action, and the state should take a far more reasonable approach than it presently is.

Christianity & or Judaism has not been pushed in the United States in this century. But schools attack our kids for these beliefs. My son was picked out & ridiculed for our faith 20 years ago in front of the class by his teacher, it only has gotten worse. I was a teacher in public schools. I was told not to represent, talk about, or wear anything that hinted at my faith. But Muslims could have their Koran out, Ramadan celebrated, prayer places on campus. We celebrated the lunar goddess & other gods from Asia etc. Class time focuses on learning about racism, how bad the US is, & how to have sex: heterosexual & homo, & learn how to masterbate yourself in lower elementary grades. Pedophilia was going on & gag orders were slapped on us teachers. We had a teacher doing sleep overs with the boys. Some were molested. Other teachers I know harassed the preteens outside of school. Paganism, humanism, new age, satanism are all allowed to be promoted to our kids in history, English lit. Etc. This is the teaching of a religion, but just not judeo Christian. I am Catholic & do not disrespect others, But we have been extremely sanctioned & threatened. Our churches have been burned, statues broken, graveyards vandalized. My daughter’s elementary Catholic school had a pipe bomb inside the city manhole tunnel. Luckily a city worker noticed the cover wasn’t in place. This was after our church was bombed.

What if your patriotism lies in the fact that your nation is the first nation to not burn the keepers of your faith at the stake? Since the crucifixion until the united states, every christian was physically persecuted in every kingdom, tribe and nation-state to which their beliefs were not sanctioned by the ruler. I know the atheist likes to pretend it was the Christian doing this, but it wasnt. It was the rulers of the nations, who were less worried about Jesus, and more worried about control of the hierarchy.

Patriotism and nationalism in 2024 broadly means totalitarianism. They think they need a strongman, like Trump, with the backing of the invisible man in the sky.
