So I have to say thank you. I jumped in bed and grabbed my phone to mess around instead of writing last night. Then I saw your post about NaNoWriMo. I watched it, grabbed me laptop, and got me words in before bed. So thank you.

This is my first NaNo and I’m so excited!! I wrote my first book in 2015-2016 during my senior year of college and it was such a fun experience, so I told myself I would definitely participate this year. Your videos were so helpful as I made the transition from academic writing to creative writing when I wrote my first book and now I get to do my first NaNo with your videos as well!! Thank you so much for your content; it gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to put action to my goals

I always look forward to Monday's because of your videos. I do have a question about your writing process; Do you write in order? Or do you write scenes out of order? I have been stuck at the procrastination station for all of November so far. Today is my day to actually start writing! I have a lot of catching up to do. A lot of things held me back from being able to participate so far; My husbands birthday (1st), my husbands surprise party (2nd), my birthday (3rd), and the fact that I am newly pregnant with our third child (morning sickness all day long). But today is the day I stop making excuses! My first book WILL be written by the end of the year! Hopefully published by the end of the year next year.

Christian Shipp It varies! Usually I write in order, but when I’m struggling with a particular scene or character POV, I’ll jump around. I’ll talk more about that in next week’s vlog! ☺️

I really think the best thing to do when you're trying to get big word counts is to work out your best sprint length. I realized that I work better doing 30 minute sprints. But not only that. If I'm not a roll I can keep going for hours by breaking it up into 30 min blocks. If I'm struggling I get up and do something else. While I'm taking a break I think about my next step with my writing, and when I come back to it I have a clear mind and work better. Just by adding 10 mins. I was averaging 300-400 in a 20 min sprint. Now I'm averaging 450-650. Such a huge improvement. Also, like what you said about POVs, working on what you want to do gives you motivation to keep going. So if you have some scenes that you think you'll struggle with, sandwich them between ones you are eager to get to- if you can. Makes it so much easier.

@@tan_the_man I feel like 20mins is too short. It's too short to get into the flow, and it's too short to know if you need a break. 30 mins is perfect to honestly know what you're doing and if you need a change of pace.

Just a thing, getting the leaves out of the street is a really good thing for your storm sewer. Rain will push the leaves into the pipes, where they can get clogged. They can then rot, putting a bunch of pollutants into the receiving stream or washing the leaves into the receiving stream. Those pollutants can do all kinds of bad things to an ecosystem. It isn't obvious, because rivers and streams go through forests all the time. The problem is that storm sewers are taking water from a huge area and then sending it to one spot in the river or stream. On top of that, the rotting leaves puts their nutrients into the ground and the plants around them. Leaves in the sewer will put all those nutrients in the river. Sorry. Environmental engineer by day, novelist by night.

It is so crazy, I first heard about NaNoWriMo in one of Boho Berrys videos (not sure if you are familiar with her) I think last year and while I loved seeing her talk about it, it did not fully get to me. Now one year later this sounds exactly like my thing! I am a little sad that I am too late to join in this November but I pretty sure next year I will join. And maybe create some sort of offspin of NaNoWriMo myself...to be honest, i have to check out again what exactly the "rules" are around it. You might know though, is there something like NaNoWriMo in another month as well? I am sending you lots of love, xx Ronja www.sothisiswhat.com
