Good info! Hoping to train my own dog soon since I'm 34 and only just got my diagnosis, and nearly no programs exist to provide autistic adults with service dogs. :(

Hi “the child” might like a cat instead. I am an autistic adult and my cat independently of training assists with my behavioral health, as the bond we have enables my cat to understand what I need. She’ll compress my chest during meltdowns and lick my tears.

Autism service dogs are only recommended for autistic people who like animals and can find comfort from being around them often.
