I haven’t watched all of your video yet, but I really like your comparison to seizures. I also have non epileptic seizures and this morning I experienced a seizure episode during a really bad meltdown. It was really scary not being able to calm myself down with my usual coping skills because my arms and hands were paralyzed for a while after the seizure but the meltdown started up again. Sometimes not having control of my body during seizures because I’m conscious during them can cause a meltdown to happen. I really look forward to watching this series and showing it to my partner. Meltdowns are so hard in relationships.

I'm SO happy you explained this!! My spouse has these and he hasn't been able to articulate the experience so far. For literal years I thought he was just ignoring me and would get super angry about it. 🥺 Now, I feel more confident in spotting it when people are in this state and being able to care for them. 💜

The best I can explain it is imagine you are having a terrible day, and when you finally get home to rest, you trip and fall flat on your face and you just want to cry because why doesn't it end? I had three this past week because I've been overstooressed alongside grieving still over my father that I watched pass away from cancer a few months ago. I never have them until I know I'm alone and I ended up having one in front of my grandmother and I just sobbed over her as she hugged me for about 10 minutes, then I went and lied down and felt better. It's like an ASD ability that equates to a Xanax to flush out the synapses of all the NA.

What an amazingly well thought out and articulated presentation. Some great ideas here. Thank you. It was particularly interesting to hear you mention the lack of tonality to your voice during shutdown/meltdown. I had months of having a voice like a dalek whilst in hospital after a big burnout and craniotomy. I could not understand it at all. Since my autism diagnosis, it makes total sense. No energy to add inflection to my speech. So few people mention this. Thank you for being so honest and open , Thomas. I really appreciate the time you spend making these videos.

Thank you so much for explaining it. Thank you for this whole series, but in particular this one, because that must have been really hard to make yourself so vulnerable.

Thomas thank you so much for making yourself vulnerable and opening up in this video.. My Wife has not been diagnosed but there have been many issues that just didn’t add up at all.. so I started trying to see if she had something like autism and trying to learn more.. and I’ve looked into other medical conditions.. but autism after all I’ve learned almost hits the nail on the head with her… and I’m going to show your a lot of your videos because it describes so much of how she acts and reacts and the interactions we have even the social aspect when going out and I’m going to see if she wants to see a doctor to see if she does indeed have Autism.. But truly thank you! Your videos I have no doubt will and have helped people so much more than you could possibly imagine or hope for.. and if she does indeed have autism we will probably be watching all of your videos to try and better understand it.

Great video! I also wanted to give you props for the tremendous amount of GREAT editing as well. Many people may not really notice it, but I know that you must have spent a great deal of time editing this video.

Thank you very much! I think it’s the same for a lot of KZbinrs, unless you’ve tried editing it’s hard to appreciate the length and effort required 😅

Excellent explanation. Neurotypical people don’t understand our need for being alone and in a quiet environment and this is frustrating. Neurotypicals respond by feeling that we don’t want to be around them and assume so for negative reasons not because we simply need the quiet, low stimulation. This for me makes me want to have less to do with neurotypicals in general even though I still like, love and appreciate them a lot.

Not quite sure about that...my bf is an aspie. I have accepted that he needs time alone and that he feels overwhelmed when I talk about emotional feelings, so I just avoid it.

I have the perspective of the neurotypical here, but sometimes it is just so hurtful. I don't know how long it's gonna last, my boyfriend shuts down and cuts any contact. I just feel rejected and ignored. For someone with a very low self-confidence like me, it hurts really really bad. I hope it will get better in the future when we learn to communicate better.
