Before realizing I was autistic, I had frequent meltdowns and shutdowns, and in the moment I couldn't ever tell whether it was anxiety attacks or panic attacks. Now I know they were neither! Being in a meltdown is so scary, especially if you're harming yourself. And I always feel so bad (both in the moment and afterward) if there are other people around, because they're probably scared for me too and don't know what to do.

I really agree with what you put down in this video! I'm 14 and currently experience, and have experienced some of the things you've mentioned here. Great work!

Bro same here. At what age were you diagnosed? I got diagnosed two weeks ago level 1, but my meltdowns are that of one with level 2.

My meltdowns spill over a bit and are more on the spot, rather than something I can restrain for a safer place, to be honest.

Thank you for your excellent videos. Im newly diagnosed, what you post has really helped me. I didnt know that self harm can be part of autism. They only happen when im having an extremely bad meltdown and i can't communicate with anyone.

Ive had rhe first self harming meltdown in several years. And only second since disgnosed Autistic. Sorry for all spelling. Stilk winding down Nd watching to relax and understand ehats happening. I had a really bad stressful day at work then my first (at 41) new boyfriend picked a fight before i could head home. Tomorrow was supposed to be his first time at my place and meeting my dogs. Its serious. Ive never had that. The combo of all of this sent me into reallybbad meltdown and now im wired and cant sleep and im still crying and upset i have to go to work tomorrow snd explain how i hit myself several times in the face and clawed my arms ragged. Its not a good look and its still a new job too. Lots of new things and deep emotions in my life that were too much forbme to not short circuit. I miss my mom being around to talk to. Thats the only person that ever understood me

I just feel like it was all going so well and poof....the other shoe dropped a big steaming pile in my lap. and then I made it worse my hitting myself. I know I can't control it and trying to makes it worse but it still sucks having the giant heaping of shame And embarrassment that follows for days of not weeks after. I hate it and I still struggle with that even when Im having a good stretch. It's always in the back of my mind. How is this gonna crumble and sour and then I have to start over again? Again? And so on. It gets really discouraging and I have to stop intrusive thoughts but it's hard when all I want is my mom and she died almost 5 years ago.

My partner will have a meltdown and threaten me and make up lies and stories. I don’t understand it. He can’t be called out in anything he does wrong, but he does it to others/me constantly. I don’t know how to handle someone I love verbally attacking and threatening me, then shutting down long term.
@MsLizziebeth110 ай бұрын
@ziggypip2938 - This is serious. I think your partner is going to get himself into bad trouble one day; he HAS TO WILLINGLY FIND STRATEGIES to allow himself to get his frustrations out safely, without seriously hurting you. He could go in a corner and shut down first, instead. But if he's falsely accusing you of invented rubbish, he's no different from any toxic male. It doesn't matter what his cause/reason is, his harm is the same! He must learn to be better than this as a human, or truly, get away from him. It's pointless hoping that his afterwards regret will change anything, because it never will. THERAPY for him, and he HAS TO WANT to go, or you leave him & never look back. He really sounds like a toxic male at his core, who just happens to have autism. There is no justice in him permanently destroying you/your confidence just for him to make himself feel better TEMPORARILY.

Friend, those aren’t “autistic meltdowns”- that is abusive behavior, and it will only get worse. Autistic people can be abusive, too, unfortunately. 😥

Oh dear. I don't believe threats, lies, or verbal attacks are a result of an overwhelm crisis (meltdown). It sounds to me like there is more than ASD going on. I'd encourage you to seek counseling to work through this with - or maybe ultimately without - your partner.

@@michellewehner7179 yes, I agree. His dad says he’s a sociopath…🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ makes me sad…but I left, and I’m much better!! I certainly hope this is not a part of ASD.

My Friend has basically suffered "traits of Autism" all his life. He has not had a full diagnosis despite being in his fifties! I myself have Bipolar, and even I, have struggled to understand my Friend's illness fully, as mine can present quite differently. I always did understand the anxiety aspect though. Many people have not shown sympathy, some have even described the display of his symptoms as a personality flaw, some leading to my Friend feeling inadequate and even hopeless! Despite me "rooting" for him, it would appear almost impossible for him to access a full ASD screening and diagnosis of my Friend's Autism! He has so far being failed! Is left suffering! We live in Britain. Does anyone know where to access this kind of support please? Many thanks, Pauline

What is a meltdown? Is it like a temper tantrum? Do you start yelling at people and you voice change? Is it like you can killl someone? I have several autistic traits but I am not sure I have frequent meltdowns. I have lost control sometimes in my life and I usually flip very fast. Is that a meltdown?
@ThomasHenley2 жыл бұрын
A meltdown is usually characterised by a lot of strong emotion, struggling to understand what’s happening, finding it hard to communicate etc Temper tantrums are usually just an expression of anger, usually over something and it’s fixed when they get what they want - with meltdowns it continues I hope this helps my friend 🙌🏻
