Acceptance = allowed to be in the same room but no sitting/interaction. Engagement = not only allowed to sit at the table but also to feedback other people about what's on menu so they make informed decisions on what's the healthiest rhetoric on menu. Lovely video at the precise time of the year. Thank you.

oh, yes, yes, yes! 📣 The value of lived experience cannot be over-stated. I can never understand why something so simple (IF you want to know, just ask us) needs to be so difficult. "Nothing about us without us". The world is an amazingly, beautifully complex tapestry made of endless light and colour, sound and texture, taste and smell contained in myriad minds, bodies and spirits and all we have to do is reach out to one another and keep learning. as long as we draw breath, we can learn. Thank yo for this opportunity to keep learning. Aroha nui

Nothing about us without us. Symptoms of autistic trauma are symptoms of trauma, not identifying characteristics of autism. They need to be treated as trauma, including having the traumatic experiences investigated and properly addressed so that trauma ceases to be a typical experience of autistic people. A genetic type that is this common is not a disorder. If there is a disorder, and there clearly is, the disorder is in how society treats autistic individuals, families, and communities.

When I touch an this topic, I draw 3 circles, with arrows pointing from each to the next: Awareness, Acceptance, Inclusion. You can't really accept something you don't know anything about, and you can only include after accepting. Awareness is to know. Acceptance is to build safe spaces Inclusion is the live together, respected, and as equals And I agree, there is more than enough awareness, and we do not need more acceptance. We need to go for inclusion (or engagement) I loved the point on how much influences our behaviour the fact that we are treated differently, in addition to just be different. Good food for thought.

I wish you were my neighbor...in fact, I wish you were everybody’s neighbor. Because the only way to really grasp what autism is, is to know someone who is actually autistic. I have autistic family members. I wouldn’t change a single thing about them, but I’d change the way “awareness” campaigns highjack what autism actually is....My heart aches every time I hear the misguided platitudes, the stereotypes- which aren’t born of knowledge from the inside out. Keep teaching us! We neurotypicals need to educate ourselves by listening to autistic people.

It is no April's Fool's Joke, ASD feels like a crime. The other day I had to comfort an aspie - online - who realized community was the joke. This world is in a deplorable mess. The institutions that were important have failed us, feeling more isolated in a regional area of Australia means I am really isolated.

I never let anyone shove my core mind and belief. I have been forced into things yes, but I still speak hard literal truth and do things different than the "Norms". If no one likes it, tough SH&T. I have literally saved people from big financial mistakes theyve overlooked, and big life issues have been seen differently by those who cared enough to see. I am on the disabled list, But i still work everyday on my levels which help those who need it. I dont sit by in idle mode, I do something. They are afraid of autistics because of several things, first, hard truth, second, because it makes sense. They are afraid to make the world better on those 2 things alone. To all autistics out there like me, dont be afraid to speak truth or make sense, keep being you.

The other problem is is I know personally after learning about autism and figuring out that I have it now the hard part is actually convincing people that I am autistic and my behavioral consultant doesn’t believe I have autism she said she don’t see it many others are the same way but yet I know I have it I’ve gone through the Cushing’s test and I got 40 out of 50 on that on top of that no one has seen my stemming because I’ve always hit it along with everything else that I’ve been so masking is my key thing that I have learned to use my whole life and because of that nobody even suspects or thinks that I have autism and I’m trying my hardest to let people now but now currently my therapist has set me up an appointment to get tested in July of this year taking that long to get in but when it comes down to kids getting diagnosed hit or miss girls don’t that often boys do but then you would literally have to be almost nonverbal and violent and flailing arms all the time and screaming and all that in order to get diagnosed with autism and for adults it’s even much much much harder to get diagnosed I am 56 and I am only just facing the fact that I may have autism and I self identifying as having autism this is what I’m running into and why we need to have people learn from us about autism instead of believing the old stereotypes that really hurt my feelings and it really hurts me a lot because because of that I am not going to be able to get the assistance therapies and I will most likely suffer in silence and alone like many other women that have autism and are only finding out late in life me I am transgender and I have suffered silently with this and not getting the right assistance that I need for coping with a lot of problems like even just going out by myself in public to go to appointments and places without having a complete breakdown when I get back home and I currently see a therapist and psychiatrist for borderline personality disorder bipolar to PTSD generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder and dissociative identity disorder and now possibly fully diagnosed in July hopefully with autism that’s my life has been a complete train wreck and I wish I could’ve stopped this train wreck a long long time ago and gotten help because I have been in the hospital numerous times for self harm and suicide attempts and last one was for three weeks when I had a complete breakdown and that lasted for a very long time and I could not control myself or anything at all

Engagement is the way forward. I have to engage with the NT world almost everyday. I find it sad that some "professionals" will see a client and say something that is just totally miss judged because they can not see what is actually happening. I on the other hand - using my Autistic Mind Reading Ability (only work with other Autistics) - totally get what is the issue. Professionals need to be trained by Autistics. And most of our traits and feelings are just normal human ones but with the gain turned up to 11! Love and best wishes to all!

Paul , hopefully you won't mind then looking at a video and deciding if you think the gentleman in it whom they are making fun of , is or is not autistic . The video has over a million views and in it they are playing voice messages from a man who many people in the comment section are calling a psychopath , a narcissist , and a manipulator . I believe a great Injustice has been done to this man and the whole autistic community . I wish people would go there as I have and make comments in the various threads and suggest to them that the man is autistic and ask them why nobody is recognizing this especially the woman who was going to go on a date with him and also the creator of the channel .

The video is called : " The WORST way to handle rejection . This is pathetic . " on the Xenoshot channel . I think you will agree that the man is not a narcissist , a psychopath , or dangerous as people are accusing him . Please help bring an awareness about autism to that video , if you would . It still blows my mind that I was the only person in hundreds of comments that believe he has autism ... the poor guy , even his mother called the woman who he was supposed to go on a date with .

@@gardensofthegods Hmmm.... a very interesting video. I have seen a video by HH called something like "Jerk or Autistic". You can be both. Standing someone up and then lying about it is NOT COOL MAN, he is s jerk, for doing that. I am so honest it gets me into trouble. I would never do that. Now, knowing when to stop when you are in the wrong is an autistic trait. Over analysing situations is also something I do. His mom phoning back didnt help, but i understand her motivation as a mom of an Autistic. (Inviting someone to your house? it might be good for an Autistic, but is just a red flag to anyone else.) In the end I feel sorry for all three of them. He clearly doesnt understand socially acceptable ways to apologise and when he should just leave it. These could mean that he is Autistic (I am not a professional and in such an emotional and limited situation, I cant say) but he is also a jerk (that i can). Could he be harmful to the woman? Who knows? As he cant even go on a date with her them probably not. Is he evil, no. Was her video, a nasty thing to do? Hmmm.. probably not, she did keep him anonymous. And it was a very interesting video to watch. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. We are all on a Nuerodiverce spectrum and have very different personalities. This is why inter-personal relationships are so difficult. Piece and best wishes to all involved.

I saw an article saying the term Autism was first used in 1911, 3 years before World War 1. Not sure if that is accurate .
@KateGladstone
@KateGladstone 3 жыл бұрын
Those earliest uses of the term (in the earliest part of the 20th century) were about the condition that is now called “schizophrenia” instead. When Karner used the term “autism,” therefore, he often stated that the thing he was describing was different from, well, the usual kind that doctors were (then) talking about under that name.

@@Autistamatic Sir , I would like to bring your attention to a video that has over a million views on it where I believe the man whose voice is being played is Autistic or something along those lines and that a great MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE has been done , not only to him but the whole autistic community . I wish you or somebody from one of the organizations would watch the whole vid and consider contacting the channel who uploaded the woman's video , or at least comment on it in several threads... I made a number of comments REPEATEDLY asking how people could not tell that the gentleman had some kind of mental handicap that he is most likely autistic ... and how is it the woman and the channel could not see this when it is so obvious . I don't know if the channel muted my comments so that no one can see them except me . In the vid you will see a rather egotistical , self-absorbed woman talking about a man she started communicating with through , I think , a dating website . She explains that he stood her up on a date and then called back , made an excuse about it then called back to tell her the truth . She's rolling her eyes around , making all kinds of smarmy comments because the guy called her back a number of times and even had his mother call the prospective date . The woman is playing the messages for all the world to hear and people are commenting repeatedly in the comment section that he is a psychopath , that he is a dangerous man . Please please watch that video and bring as many people as you can to comment there and to bring awareness that the man is not dangerous he is not a manipulator he is not a narcissist , nor a psychopath . Please help to get others to recognize and see from now on when they are dealing with someone who is more likely than not Autistic or something similar to that . The video is titled : " The WORST way to handle rejection . This is pathetic . " ( on Xenoshot channel ) . I believe that what is so pathetic is how nobody was able to recognize that the gentleman is harmless and probably has Asperger's or some other kind of autism .
