Auto Align 2 Tutorial | Goodbye Phase Cancellation

I find it to be one of the most useful plug-ins that I have. I do a lot of multi-mic and stereo mic techniques, and it’s a huge time-saver. Some examples: 1) when I run bass mic and also a di , it easily locks the two together. 2). To keep depth in drums, run stereo overheads separately. That way you still get the depth. Run the, snare, and Toms together, but run the stereo overheads separately. That way you get the depth of the rooms. Leave mono rooms as is. 3). When stereo guitar micing, I use it to get the two mics exactly in phase. And auto-align lets you manually adjust so you can see how the tracks sounds when in phase.

Hey, you don't even have to play the song. AA2 is ARA, just click Align. It listens automatically while aligning. Yes, your playback is silent, but it still listens! ARA is amazing!

Oh, you're in Logic, so maybe you need to start the playback for a brief second in order for ARA to start working. Just a brief second is enough though, then it will be able to listen to the whole song automatically. In Reaper it works right away.

I bought it since I already had version 1, but with this, I'm wondering if we shouldn't use it on the room mics since the delay of mics adds depth to the drums itself! What are you're thought on this?

That’s what I’m saying! Why would you want everything perfectly aligned? Live drums naturally have separation because certain mics are placed farther away from the kit. This is one reason why I probably won’t be using this much. This is something I should have talked about in the video. Thanks for bringing it up!

@@HomeRecordingNetwork Yeah I think the way to go is to use it with everything except the room mic and see if it brings more beef to the shell in relation to the overhead... but yeah doing it manually or with the Auto-Align V.1 was pretty much the same process but just a little bit longer...

You can actually adjust your room mics in align 2 by right clicking in the plugin and time adjusting while still being in phase.

Thanks for your honesty. I agree that it does improve the sound, but if you don't have phase problems when you record, it's not going to be a game-changer.
