Nice van Randy. My daughter has a '08 Town & Country. Her drivers side sliding door won't unlatch with the button or remote, but once you release it with the handle, the buttons will finish opening it, and will close it all the way. She also has a crack on tne passenger side of the windshield. It's over by the far side out of view normally. The liftgate on yours is supposed to open electricly, but you might have to replace the struts on it. For the serpentine belt, getting it off is the easy part. Getting it back on is usually a chore, unless it stayed in place on all the other pulleys, but even so, it's usually a lot harder to slip the belt back over the final pulley than to slide it off. I've only used used low mileage alternators or had the old one rebuilt when I've had one go bad. I've never had to replace one a 2nd time and I've changed a lot of my own.

Back when I was in school, cars were traded or sold around 99,000 miles. I can still hear my grand parents say they dont want something with troubles. As the economy got tighter and inflation started to feed the gov more of our money, the mileage mark to trade went up. Some people didn't go by mileage but by cost to keep the vehicle. If they bought the car new and made monthly payments, they prob paid about 500 buckeroos a month. Once it was paid for, they were free and clear unless there were repairs needed. My keep/sell mark was if I had to pay more than I did when I made a year of monthly payments. The car would have something catastrophic happen before cost became a thing. In the case of the van, you are talking 138,000 miles. Now they took it in to get an estimate, they most likely told them $200 for the part and $150 for the time to do it. Thats $350. It was easier to donate the car and get a tax break then to pay for that repair. Pretty simple thought process. Not the way I would have gone but simple enough.

Randy with all of the bells and whistles, check if there's a service bulletin to upgrade the alternator to a higher capacity alternator. If the van was owned by someone elderly maybe they passed on and the family decided to send it down the road.

It's awesome you are helping your kid. So here's what I can tell you about this van that you purchased from my years of running a Chrysler Dealership. Great Van!!! Limited is the fully loaded trim and, this one looks like it has everything. The box under the Mirror is for Rain-Sensing wipers which it should have. It also has a Saftey Pak that gets you the Backup Camera and Blind Spot Monitors as well. This one should also have a very early version of Automatic Bright Lights (Similar to the 300C). It does have all of the Bluetooth stuff as well but, these units also have an Internal 50 Gig Internal Memory (you can save CD's To It). Check the Door handles on those sliders, there should also be a 2nd row heated seats. The cluster of buttons in the back are for the power fold 3rd row in the Stow N Go. You probally already know this one but, when you do the trans service, use MOPAR everything (Fluid, Filter, Gasket). Those transmissions are tempermental with using anything else. This one is a Solid Van and a good score for your Daughter's Family. It has every pedigree that I look for when I acquire vehicles for family. And Most Important, To use the Media on your phone, You have to use the USB outlet that is in the left side of the upper glovebox.

Hey Randy, I agree with you going for a used O.E.M alternator instead of rolling the dice on a aftermarket or a reman unit. I just recently replaced the original alternator with a used junkyard O.E.M one for my 2001 NISSAN R50 PATHFINDER 4X4 5-Speed. It's been about 2 weeks and it's been working great. Also had the same symptom you had with the whine coming from the alternator. I said it as soon as you started the van up that's gonna be an alternator. I bet either of us are gonna forget that sound lol. Good job fixing it on the cheap👨🏾🔧 Chris.

I've got a 2011 Grand Caravan and I agree that these vans are awesome. Mine's had it's moments of frustration with a bad transmission and multiple repairs needed from day one but now that it's sorted I would say I'm a mini van guy for good. I catch a lot of slack from my buddies but I really do love the versatility of the stow and go seating, not to mention reasonable gas mileage and room for activities. Band equipment, mini bikes, whatever, it's ready for it all. Good luck with yours, they were intended to be and really are a great car for a family.

I’m a longtime Mopar Minivan fan. Good find! You find quite the gem! Those alternators are quite easy to do. I had one that was a rental car previously that Hertz took parts from another T&C to sell it. The Transmission was OK for a while then I was getting a code for one of the solenoids. Took it to my usual trans shop, they replaced the valve body and solenoids, discovered Hertz put in melted solenoids…

Man, you are such a decent person. I honestly can not think of a better option for her. With how expensive new cars have gotten, it's irresponsible to tie up that much in the way of financial resources in transportation. You got something with great safety features that can withstand three young kids much better than a $60k SUV and it's still just a really nice and comfortable car. And that's awesome that you're doing all of those services to ensure that this cost efficient car runs for a really long time.

Definitely check to see if timing components were changed? Those V6 4.0 uses a timing belt and not a chain and is interference engine definitely change, if have not been change, don’t cheapen out on that. Plus definitely the Y pipe to heater core, they are plastic and they go bad on every single one of these worked on and dump the antifreeze. Then also get transmission flush and new fluid and filter. Those engines are reliable but do these services to keep it going for a while.

I’ve had 3 minivans. And the last 2 had really noisy power steering pumps right from new. Even worse in Canadian winters. Sounds like the noise you hear when you first fired it up. I have the 3.6 and the only problem I’ve had over 5 years was the oil cooler is mounted between the V of the v6 and its plastic, one day big puddles in the driveway. The plastic warps and leaks motor oil. But other than that it’s a wicked van. Unsure about 4.0
