You are a real professional, especially because of the pre-hond video, the control module of the body burned, I didn't know that a lightning strike could affect the car because it has tires, thank you for sharing this with us 👍👍😊😊

I ordered the test light directly from Bosch when you told us about it in the prior video. It was shipped to me in under 7 days. 👍🏼

Thanks for continuing videos on this truck, Jake! This is very informative! I believe you are right - lightning strike could explain all the scattered damage, with no apparent common cause. And it didn't even need to be a direct hit - the high voltage field surrounding a strike will induce currents (sometimes very high) on everything conductive within the field.

This comment is for the 2 BCM costs. I do think it would be reasonable to charge the customer 1/2 of the 1st BCM cost being that noone else (Meaning most shops unfortunately) actually do a true diagnosis or take time to try , especially flat rate mechanics and honestly alot of techs are parts changers! I would explain the situation to the customer also and im sure he would have no problem paying the extra $175 +/-. Theres only 1% of mechanics who would have put forth the extra effort as you have. I know this because my girlfriend tried different shops in our area for a AC issue she was having and every shop added refrigerant or claimed they did because the system would work then freeze after 20 min but after watching true diagnosis mechanics like yourself i have started to learn and research and eventually found the issue was a temperature sensor that would shut the system off once it reached a certain temperature to defrost then turn the system back on when the temperature was low enough. Great job as usual and some beginner training videos by you would do very well also and im sure everyone else would agree.

I was working on arew and we have mercedes actros 6x6 tractor,the guys jump start it,they connect the leads on the tractor first,the other end on the supply truck but crossed,the ecm burnt immediately with not evidence on the terminals.

had a ford cmax once similar issue with the charging worked out the after market alternator did not support smart charge 👌 great job with the wheel speed sensors i normally hook up a metre and spin the wheel see if it reads not so good as its. not testing it under load 😂😂😂 need to move with the times i am a bit old school 🤪🤪 . i think your right lighting strike . battery hook up fault i would expect to see a few more cooked wires. oh yes and one of those test lights is soon to be mine 👌(when they get them back in stock end of the month so they say

I worked on one of those silverados and It had 1 wheel speed sensor bad. I guess ya gotta make sure ya dont cross polarity when your testing cuz it ended up with 2 bad. I tried to jump left to right and I fried the good one.

If those speed sensors are just coils (the ones that use reluctance effect) as the diagram shows, I wonder how they got damaged. You need high enough current is need to open the coil, way higher than normal operating one, but if so, then the module that connects to them will be toasted.

How would an indirect lightning strike affect the vehicle? I thought it would be insulated by the tires?
@ThunderbirdRocket Жыл бұрын
Good question . The voltage amount overcame the resistance of the tires . Variables such as the specific ingredients / or percentage in the manufacturing of the tires , wet tires , metal in the treads , metal studded winter tires , salt on the tires (winter time / ice melter ) . In power line big grid electrical distribution work the workers are reminded of this kinda thing ; even as it applies to boots , gloves , tools etc … Voltage / Pressure can win the battle theoretically / in the realm of what is possible.

I was wondering, are those VRS style sensors with the voltage just being a biased voltage to check for circuit integrity? Or is it one of those magnito resistive sensors? I was just wondering what the voltage was for but I think you may have already proved that it was a biased voltage. I truly look forward to all your videos and your troubleshooting techniques! Thank you Jake!

Wow is that truck ride height standard? If jake can crawl under it and without jack assist and seems decently comfy, how high is the ground clearance?. My apology, my country has no US sized personal truck of this kind , biggest is MB amg g wagon or latest toyota landcruiser/lexus.

On your last video where you had 12.27v drop down only to 12.25v.. You said you weren't sure what that last decimal was called-- and you called it "a drop in 2 micro volts"...... I'll explain. Going larger. 999 is hundreds.. 999,000 is thousands. (kilo) 999,000,000 is millions.. (Mega) 999,000,000,000 is billions.. (giga) 999,000,000,000,000 is trillions.. etc. (tera) Mili, micro, nano, pico-- are the same concept, only in reverse. Every 3 is another level. 0.001 is 1 (mili) volt. 0.000,001 is 1 (micro) ... (the comma's aren't supposed to be there, but it's easier to see as a demonstration). 0.000,000,001 is 1 (nano) 0.000,000,000,001 is 1 (Pico) volt So on 12.27v ... Just add the invisible zero, which brings you to that 3rd decimal point. 12.270v which is 12v and 270 mili volts. So if it dropped to 12.25 That means it dropped 20 mili volts .270 - .250 = .020 .. aka 20 mili

Where is the evidence of a lighting strike? Should there not be a burn mark somewhere on the vehicle. Just saying, the old school guy.
