autodoc.co.uk removing the wheel hub from the wheel bearing, I used the bearing puller with the screw and it pushed the axle in but did not seperate the hub from bearing. Now I think I might have damaged either the axle or the diff... something had to give somewhere 2 inches... thoughts?

BTW I stopped after realizing that the hub is not comin off. Also the axle rod did not push out after I removed the puller...

Adnan Medic You should've used a slide hammer bearing puller, like in the video clip. The screw in type won't work as you found out, because the axle is floating.

Why do you press it back on the hub by the inner race? Shouldnt you use a plate to cover both inner and outer race of the bearing?

My tire wouldn't move forward enough for me to get the shaft out. You lift yours up fairly easily it seems (10:16) but mine would not move away from the vehicle at all.

Just did this today, you DO NOT need to remove the axle, or drop any control arm, simply remove the axle nut, tap the axle shaft back a little, and you will have access to the 4 torx bolts, stick a wobbly on there with an extension and zap them out. That part shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, pressing them in and out is another story if you don't have a press.

I'm about to change a wheel bearing on my front 328xi 2009. I don't want to remove the axle and all the suspension parts. Since I have a 4 wheel drive there's obivously going to be a shaft axle in the front wheels. If I can do it without dropping all the other stuff I will! Otherwise i'll just let the indy do it :(

It's a good job, and easy when it's taken apart and then reassembled before recording. But when we have dealing with pins and nuts that have seized for 10 years, it is much more than 25 minutes to change the bearing. Thank you for the tutorial.

By removing the lower control arm in the rear you have to do a complete wheel alignment. With the right tool to pull in the driveshaft you wont have to remove the driveshaft at all and this will save you a lot of time. Also by removing the bolts on the driveshaft to the diff, they have to be replaced as they are ribbed.

After much tries and then trying to google, realized that factory installed nuts have a tabs on 2 side that are bent into the axle and they need to be broken or unbent before trying to use the 36 socket to remove the nut. I wish this is something you would have pointed out. Will let you know how my repair goes. Thanks again

No new bolts in the bearing kit, ring parts asshats and turns out it was supposed to come with bolts. FML
