I DID IT! The caliper carrier was impossible to remove. Luckily you can wiggle out the disc without taking it off. If you live in a rust prone place you may also want to replace the heat shield (mine was rusted completely). Nice tutorial.

Thank you for this , Had to do my daughters VW. Was unable to undo caliper retaining bolt, but managed to do as D Whitaker said jiggled the disc to pull it off. Thank you again for a well presented video.

No need to take the calliper carrier off (1.9 TDI 255mm discs) the disc will just wiggle out and back on. Pretty easy job!

I read some forums, and some people found those screws very hard to be opened. Even, recommend to change for a new ones after change of rotors. Is it recommended to put some threadlock or some coppergrease (then easier to remove next time)?

probably to prevent any chance of the screw from unfastening from continual movement.

I have a question. I tried to unscrew one of the bolts to the gliding pin it was already rounded. What is a good way to remove it ? I dont have a Induction heater can i. Use a burner on the bolt or is the rubber to the pins melt?

I found there is NO NEED TO REMOVE TH CALIPER RETAINING BOLT WITH M14 12 spline bolts. Undo the disc retaining screw and the disc pulls off with a little giggling.

Yes, you're actually better off undoing the cap in the resvoir. Also best to clean the caliper piston before winding it back

You can remove the disc without removing the carrier. Helps if you don’t have the spline tooth tool. My caloper does not whinned back, tried so many times, any suggestions please help Doc?? Otherwise I’m thinking to replace the caliper which would be costly.

Couldn't see what he did with the screwdriver after winding the piston back at 9:20, also it'd be useful if you showed more clearly the spanner, torq and spline sizes. Apart from that, 👍

Thank you for your feedback. When squeezing the brake piston there is a chance that the cuff may come off, after which it must be returned to its place. This is exactly what our mechanic did in this fragment.

I like to replace the carrier bolts with hex head bolts in 10.9 grade. Undoing them with a spanner is so much easier than the OEM spline head ones.

You may not need to remove the carrier. The disc will come off with the carrier in place on some models.
