nicopp line is my favorite, bends easy, flares perfect, and doesnt rust. This is all i use on customers cars as most of the cost of brake lines is in the labor so you sell better line that never fails and you get a happier customer

Vary cool was begining to despair that you had not just back burnered old Large Marge but taken her off the stove all together. I have bit of a soft spot for this chassis but have NEVER seen any kind of grip, G-machine/pro-touring build and the roots blown 302. Is also vary much of interest to me. Paricularly with EFI should be a runner and a half can't wait to see it running loose on a road coarse some where. PS thanks for the video on measuring for wheels that was the first time I had seen it done. This way not relying on internet he said to fit larger combos front and rear. Please stay the coarse. I think the shorter quick little updates are a great idea and say keep'em cummin. Thanks Jason

id like to see what you use to make your bends on the brake lines, and how you go about laying out and planning your bends to fit what your working with. I am soon going to be doing brake lines on my modified CJ2A Willys Jeep and its going to see plenty of mud water etc so I think stainless is the way. good to see you back :)
@AutoEdits8 жыл бұрын
+ShnitzlHaus Thanks dude! That Willys sounds like a great project. I'll try to get another vid up with more plumbing stuff soon as well. But here's a tip I learned from a friend that might work even better for your CJ, use mild steel brake lines for your plumbing and then paint them before final install and they'll last for a LONG time.
@ShnitzlHaus8 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that also! any thoughts on the copper nickel lines? if you like to see more on the willys check into my channel every now and then spring I should have allot of how to videos up.

For the brake line, are all fittings -3? This makes me want to redo my entire brake system. I used mild steel. Not because it was easiest, I just didn't know about anything else. Keep the videos coming!

In this system almost all the connections are either -3 or 1/8 NPT. I learned about this new material from a viewer on the you tube so we all are always learning. Thanks!

Great video! Why did you use flexi lines to the rear calipers? They don't move in relation to the axle. From factory there was only one flexi from body to axle. As far as I can remember lol it's been ages since I took the brakes off.
@AutoEdits8 жыл бұрын
I put the flex lines there because it will make it a little easier to service those calipers and rotors in the future... instead of disconnecting hardline to move them I now have a little room to work with.
@russelljones66538 жыл бұрын
Nice touches on your brake system. I'm doing some very similar things on my cars. I'm curious though because I really like what you're doing at the firewall - I've always been told that brake lines should have as few junctions as possible and that flexible lines always add some level of sponginess to the system. You added both to your system - is what I've been told over the years not applicable any more (which is entirely possible since I'm old :-) ) or are you making some trade-offs for serviceability and looks?
@AutoEdits8 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is best to design a brake system with as few fittings as possible since each one is an "opportunity" for a leak but in my experience...making solid flares and using care never game me any problems. About the flex lines...a few high quality braided steel lines will not make for a spongey pedal...rubber, you betcha.
@russelljones66538 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response!! That gives me some more options and will make my redo of my early 70's brakes easier and they will look better. I've upgraded to 13" disks up front and will be changing my rear drums to 11.5" disks in the rear. Since I have to eliminate the factory proportioning and add after market your demo is a big help...
@AutoEdits8 жыл бұрын
That's great to hear! Sounds like you have a pretty sporty hot rod in the works there...You'll be happier with an adjustable proportioning valve in the future!
@motecalevol8 жыл бұрын
You CAN use 45 degree double flare fittings on stainless lines. But the stainless has to be an annealed tubing. Summit racing Part Number:SUM-220256 works great! The double annealed stainless WILL NOT split - no pre-heat required!!!!

I was told that doble flare is required for break lines , you didn't show how to do doble flare, any ways I'm working in my 60 ranchero ,thanks for the info ,keep up the good work
@AutoEdits7 жыл бұрын
Yes, manufacturers use double or bubble flares but it's not a requirement for me... plus if you are using stainless brake lines you can only single flare them.

Question: You mentioned that you were able to use all AN fittings strait to the caliper. Now what adapters would we need if we were to use the stock hose or hose fittings?

Simple, just use 3/8" NPT to banjo bolt style adapters or whatever is stock on your vehicle.

@leather_man55herbert26 Жыл бұрын
Hello can you tell me where you got the fitting for the brake light switch , would be very helpfull thamnks
I have never plumbed a brake system before. I really wish in these videos somebody could be VERY specific on which flare to use for which application. In addition WHERE to get the parts. NOBODY stocks this stuff anymore. I got on line and it said Autozone carried Nicopp brake line.......so I went in the store and asked the guy behind the counter for a roll of Nicopp brake line........he looked at me like I had two heads............I had to explain it to him.........so he goes in the back and after a lengthy time returns with a coil of black STEEL line...........I said, NO, I need Nicopp to which he appeared frustrated with me............so I go in the back with him and show him what I want..........then fittings.......yea they have a whole rack of fittings........NONE OF WHICH are anything like those shown in these videos.

As someone who uses what is in stock and what is KISS stainless lines and the alloy fittings are just pure wank. For 99.9% of all jobs mild steel is the best, these days it has to be the plastic coated stuff to be road legal. It is a bit harder to work with but a LOT better than stainless. The zinced copper stuff is very nice to work with but if you are undoing and doing up fittings as you do with road race cars it is not very durable,, and for off road use [inc the normal road 4wd] it dents far to easily. And is not legal yet again. Using more than required flexible hose is not good either, better than rubber ofcourse but ONLY from the chassis to calliper and chassis to rear axle. Every bit of flexible hose means a softer pedal. I have seen 'experts' who have learnt that. For race use aeroquip style steel fittings are fine but not for road use, they must be swaged and have standards markings, annoying but fact. It seems that in the US standards for road cars are not enforced,, but crash and then the shit hits the fan. I suspect especially in litigous USA. For the stuff on You Tube with Roadkill etc and Drag week here in Oz we would be arrested. And go for a roadworthy inspection most of those cars would never see the street again. All of the above people find [and are told] getting hot rods and the like registered. Pedal boxes can be very nice on road cars but in reality are a waste of time and money on a streeter. And generally alters pedal ratio as well. And those Fords have a big long pedal. Doing away with the booster , 7/8 m/c and an adjustable brake bias valve is all that is needed,, and all that is used on many succesfull race cars as well. And some still use boosters. While a lot of it is B/S a lot of it makes a lot of sense for us old farts!
