I think it's cool that they used an "old school" pushrod engine, kept the horsepower claim under 500 & still managed a decent zero to sixty time. Many of these cars with 600-900 HP still don't have any faster acceleration times. The wall of buttons between the seats is lame and I absolutely detest touch screens, but that engine sounds great! I think I would opt for the Coupe so I could have the transparent cover. Stinger missiles for the aircraft and Mac-10 for the birds;)

Ever since I was like 10 I wanted the Vette to be mid-engined , And now that it's finally here, I honestly don't quite know how I feel about it. It's a great car that can finally run with the likes of Ferrari & Lamborghini but for me personally...something is still missing. It's no C8 but I have a slightly modified '87 Fiero GT (no v8 yet) that actually has a soul & character & I have more fun in that car than you would ever think was possible. I know alot of people hate them but most Fiero Owners will tell you they are one of the best, most fun & most overlooked cars ever built by GM. It does not deserve the reputation haters have given it because of a couple little engine fires in 1984 only models most of which were the fault of their owner's for not reading the owners manual to learn about operating a mid-engined car & not properly maintaining the engine.
@marclevesque31472 жыл бұрын
The beauty of this car is that it can actually on dry conditions, put the power to the ground without 4 wheel drive, the 0-60 time is astonishing as is power to weight ratio, a far greater achievment than any hellcats that can't handle curves and will spin tires before achieving any kind of grip... Not practical but for the price, it can't be beat!

These have yet to grow on me style wise even though they are becoming fairly common on LA roads. I appreciate the engineering/performance to price ratio that GM has been able to achieve with this. I agree that at the base $60K price, there really is nothing on the market that can compete with this performance wise. Saying that, I wouldn't buy one myself mainly cause I still can't get over the exterior styling or some of those cabin choices also mentioned by Bill but it is the biggest performance car bargain if you can put those other things aside.

Hey Bill, I believe we are the same age so I can relate to being SHOCKED at how fast cars have become. When I was growing up the best the Americans could come up with was the later years of the C4 ZR1 which put out 405 HP and 0-60 in like 4.4 seconds and that was considered blistering quick back then. Now? You can walk into your local Ford dealer and buy for under 40k a Mustang GT that with the 10 speed auto will do 0-60 in 4 seconds flat. IN A MUSTANG! I recall the first car I ever drove and owned which was a 4 second car which was the C5 Z06. That was just BONKERS fast for me so I can't even imagine it would be like to own and drive a C8 Corvette which I have seen KZbinrs get 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. CRAZY! It is hard to believe and sad that all this explosion in innovation with gasoline cars is going to be replaced with what you called a toaster on wheels the electric car. What a shame.

I have never cared for convertibles, and have never owned one. I have ridden in a few. Cars need tops. The Corvette started out as a little 6 cylinder convertible. I did not like it's looks, and it had no performance, though performance has never been a big issue with me as far as street cars go. Performance is for race tracks. All the way through the first generation, the Corvette was a convertible, but at least they finally managed to make a hardtop for it. But I never cared for the look. Then in 1963, everything changed. The Corvette coupe became a proper car, with looks to match. And in 1968, we got another major improvement with the coupe. The styling was out of this world beautiful. The convertible persisted for a while, but I always considered it irrelevant. It totally ruined the lines of the car. And if you really did want to remove the top, you could remove the T top panels. I tried that, and was almost blown out of the car. The Corvettes looks continued to improve until 1977, when they took a huge downward turn with the huge bubble back window. I consider 1977 to be the end of the third generation. Then along came the fourth generation in 1984. It was just a car. nothing special about it. Not ugly, but pretty bland and boring. Certainly not beautiful when compared to the 1977 and older third generation. The fifth, sixth, seventh, and especially the eighth generations were all downhill. Gone were the beautiful curves reminiscent of the later '60s Jaguar XKE. It began to look more like a Lambo than a Corvette. It completely lost it's identity. It became computerized. It gained performance, which was completely worthless to a responsible driver on the street. Sadly, to me anyway, the Corvette is now dead. At least the new one. But all is not lost. I still have my beautiful white 1976. The epitome of Corvette styling and identity from beginning to end.

So the Corvette pinnacle for you are the mid-'70s years that offered the absolute WORST in terms of performance with the lowest horsepower ratings. I find that fascinating. Yeah, I'll take the C-8

@@MarinCipollina I don't understand the whole performance thing when it comes to Corvettes. For me the Corvette is/was a work of art and a cruiser. I never considered it a muscle car. But yes mine does have a bit of extra power under the hood. Around 375 rwhp. That is now possible since '70s model cars can be insured and registered as collector vehicles, exempting them from emissions testing, so you can put whatever you want under the hood.

@@geraldscott4302 You say you never considered the Corvette a performance car. I think that's a distinct minority viewpoint. Corvette has been a performance endeavor its entire existence. So far as your choice of engines, the C-8 offers orders of magnitude improvement, well beyond engine to the chassis, the suspension, the braking, steering. Not to mention the impressive computer capabilities. The C-8 vis-a-vis a 1975 Corvette comparison is one without basis. Thanks for the response.

Great review and awesome car. Only two issues that I took me a while to get used to was the stupid center climate control divider and the way the rear end looks.

Modern classic I say. Would love to have one, but wish there was a manual option.

Hi Bill, nice to see you've made it back in one piece. We have snow here for you to delve into. The fun will be so immense you'll be paying me to go go have at with your shovel of choice. I got the Fit into the middle of the street and then realized I have a work computer in the bedroom, why the attempt? Lady Prelude is buried further up in the driveway and I don't think anyone will be catching a glimpse until spring.

Oh I forgot to mention just how beautiful the color is! Fire engine red is just too obvious a choice, and a little over the top, but this deeper, subdued red/burgundy is the kind of stuff dreams are made of.

Lovely car though the problem with sport cars is that on the congested highways I can drive as fast as the surrounding me crowd of Kia Picanto, VW Polo and Peugeot 108, etc. I use the speed tracking app that told me that my fastest sprint in the real life last 4 years from 0 - 100 km/h was whooping 17 seconds in a car that on paper could do from 0 to 100 in 9 seconds so I drive now BMW 318i with a 3 cylinder 1.6 liter engine and in the real life conditions I can't even use the full power of that small engine. BTW. You're doing great job and I have always a lot of pleasure and fun watching your videos. Kudos for that!

Sport cars are obviously not made for highways but for weekend mornings on empty, twisty country roads, or canyon roads, or whatever fun type of roads you have in US. I am living in north part of the Czech republic and most of the roads here look like sections of tarmac rally stages and I have absolute blast driving every day to work with my BRZ. Sport cars are awesome, but you have to had access to the roads they were made for.

It’s gonna be interesting to see how the angry spaceship type of styling on this and many other makes/models ages. It’s tough to imagine what it will take for new cars 20 years in the future to make this look dated.

It's good value, i like your choice of words to describe it. Who knows? People are angry, will probably only get angrier until a war breaks out wiping our most of humanity. Then, angry spaceship cars will look dated.

Wow, this was the most unenthusiastic C8 review I have ever seen. Everyone else kisses this cars butt. This brutal honesty was very refreshing. I love the corvette but I have to have a real manual (paddles are for Forrest Gump to play ping pong with). I own a C5 which is awesome for an old guy like me (53). As a kid of the 80's, I still love the pop up head lights and round tail lights. I might move up to a C6 because I do want a chance to mod an LS3 engine. Great video!
