The R107 was the most successful SL roadster ever made by Mercedes-Benz, with almost a quarter of a million produced during 18 years from 1971 to 1989. Other than the G-Wagen, it was the longest production class from the German maker, and an iconic part of global culture. It starred in movies, television shows, and advertisements. Its lines are synonymous with wealth and success, and now "old money." These cars are enjoyed by enthusiasts worldwide, and can be maintained on a reasonable budget with many services being doable by a shade tree mechanic. In many ways, they are the perfect collectible car for somebody who wants one to drive comfortably and safely - despite being so vintage looking, these cars were well ahead of their time.
The 380 SL was made through 1981 - 1985, and are an absolute bargain compared to any 560SL with similar statistics. In some ways, I prefer the older look of the 380, and the more prolific use of chrome, and the early-style bunt cake alloy rims. These car still drive very modern, but look a lot more classic than the 560 SL version.

LOL here in Jacksonville I'd say it was closer to 500%, and up to about 700% on the drive home from work, that sort of humidity where you have to use your windshield wipers to get the condensation off the glass because the windows are fogging up on the outside! I can explain why your AC is so good and it IS luck! Back in the day when R12 was the refrigerant of choice, it used to work way better than the stuff we have today. My dad used to have an old Mustang with 40k original miles on her and she still had her original AC coolant! It was so cold that it froze the vents, no exaggeration. Some people say they could get snow to come out under certain circumstances. Just think, in order to have that the system had to have no leaks whatsoever up until now. Over time eventually they will all be gone. To have the original coolant is super rare and makes a car MUCH more valuable/desirable!

My wife's uncle has a either it's a 420 or 560, can't remember which, he keeps it pretty well, not driven a lot, is always contemplating selling it, making a bit of profit. I do prefer the Euro exterior treatment over the chunkier look of the US models but that's just personal preference. Still a nice car for what it is, someone's going to get a really nice example on BaT.

coffeeinthemorning ...what’s wrong with him is that when this AC system disintegrates...you will have to convert the whole damn thing including the driers etc...and yes..one of the more expensive things to repair on these things....notwithstanding the fact that you cannot buy R12 anymore due to the ozone issue and the fact that now...it’s down to a few enthusiasts on eBay..trading tiny cans of top-up r12..just to keep things going...but the end and an expensive conversion is inevitable.....no matter how good r12 was...and it was indeed good....

Iconic Benz, Bill is right, they were all over the place. The 'Orange' is okay. It adds to the vintage look, especially with the brown soft top. If I got it it would be re sprayed burgundy or dark green & replace the soft op to tan. I'm already over my quota tho.
