Hey Marques, this is exactly the difference between you and other car reviewers, you like the technology, they like the car. Someone that likes cars appriciate car handling more then just speed. Non of it is good or bad, just different. As always, great video thank you!

This is the vibe i get as well. Fast 0-60 speed times isnt a hard thing to do with EVs. The feel, feedback, improved handling characteristics can be more challenging to create. But I do feel MK is getting better at realizing some of the points most traditional gear heads loved.

@@mavfan1 It's not even just EVs. A 6,000lb Ford Raptor R can do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat 0-60 in 3.6, Challenger Demon 0-60 in 2.3 seconds, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 0-60 in 1.66 seconds. Electric motors with max torque available at zero RPMs just makes it that much easier to achieve crazy 0-60 times. Balancing a vehicle that will handle better on a track has always been much more difficult than cars built for 0-60 or 1/4 mile runs. Are you new to the car world?

The big hump in the floor in the middle of the back row is because the batteries are arranged in a T-shape. They go through that center tunnel to the back seats and then go outwards under the rear seats. The Polestar 2 is based on the XC40, which started out as a gas/petrol car and that is probably why the idea works fine in the XC40 electric but not in the Polestar 2 with the lower roof (killing rear headroom).

I have a Polestar 2 (with all upgrades (PPP) but not the BST version) and here are my thoughts: 1. Great performing car. The 0-60 doesn't really tell a full story in terms of performance and tends to have better torque, drive feel, break performance, and heat management compared to other EV's in it's class. Also fantastic AWD. 2. Range is mediocre at best (it's not the worst, but its certainly not great for the price) 3. It's a great looking car, I'm constantly being asked by strangers what my car is. 4. Interior is basic, but I like that. 5. 1 cup holder?? Like, wtf? Too basic... 6. I actually like the no frills Android auto infotainment system, its far superior to almost every OEM system I ever used (for a similar vehicle, the Ioniqs infotainment system was an extreme eye sore) 7. Back seat is small, but I'm never riding back there. 8. the Car is supposedly one of the most environmentally friendly vehicle ever produced. 9. The car is way overpriced and if you're really interested in it, you should really only look at them used with 10k miles on them for the real price. 10. Hard to fit smaller rims on the vehicle with those custom brembo breaks so tires are $$$$$. Still love the car, easily the best vehicle I've ever owned, but don't get one thinking it's something that it's not.

Great points made here. I’ve been driving my Polestar for about 2 years. I chose to lease rather than buy as they had an incredible offer at the time. The biggest selling point for me was the cooled seats, which is surprisingly hard to find in this class of EV. I live in Las Vegas and this was my first cooled seat experience: now I can never go back. The seat upgrade costs about the same as the performance pack and it feels like every press car is equipped with the latter, but I promise the effect of a more comfortable seat far outweighs that of an extra 70 hp.

@@megazillia ah, that makes sense then. Model Y dual motor 0-60 spec is 4.8 seconds, which is half a second slower than the standard dual motor Polestar 2. You can definitely feel half a second. The advantages of using built-in Google Maps are fairly accurate estimates of battery level upon destination and charging opportunities along the way. The second cup holder is under the lid. Plug & Play wireless CarPlay module was $70 on Amazon. Wrapped the gloss center with wood grain. Looks better than OEM. As for the screen, I agree it could be better, and I’m sure it will be in future versions. Lastly, this is a driver’s car, and the interior accurately reflects that. There are cars that do this-OR-that better, but this one effectively combines quality and performance. 476 hp is no joke, and it has higher torque than a C8 Vette. It’s quick, smooth, solid, sure-footed, and braking is incredible! It’s an absolute blast to drive! For affordability, consider a lease. Especially given rapid EV advancements.

@@BCJDM Allow me to clear the mist in your brain :) - Polestar have build 230 of this BST version for particular EV enthusiasts, hence the price - as someone has correctly pointed out. Every time a car manufacturer builds a special edition there is a plan in place, the study is done if they can sell, to whom and what should be the price - it's called marketing department. - 10 years from now the brand will still exist, as they are currently selling good numbers is US, EU and UK. Considering the current and following legislations, the path it's already clear and it's set by governments - not by manufacturers. - about the disposable EV's - most of the EV batteries nowadays are over 90% recyclable. There is also a trend to build cars with materials that can be recycled. Again, the governments have a big part in this strategy and manufacturers have to comply. - the EV market it's not address to everyone, it's not for masses - at least not in present. You can definitely not compare it with older Volvo's, that was a different era with different priorities. I drove this and model 3 and really liked the build and drive quality of this car. I have the dual motor and it was 55k with a 7.5k tax deduction. Compared to the model 3 in that price range the compromises are range, back seat space and depending on model straight line performance. What I care about : this a drivers car it corners as well as my BMW, straight line 0 to 60 in 4.4 , I like the android auto integration compared to Tesla software.

I rented a Polestar 2 for 2 weeks. I didn't like how much pressure was needed when pressing the accelerator to get the car moving from a complete stop. After a couple days, this got easier. Its a heavy car but this actually made it feel solid and well balanced on the road. I HATED the driver profiles and the head-unit's interface. What a pain in the ass. Overall, I really enjoyed this this car and feel that it's a better option vs a Tesla Model Y. Manufactures need to bring physical knobs and switches back. Especially the companies with horrible software UI.

Wow, I drove this exact model before Marquez! I felt pretty much the same way. It’s a solid car that has some weird issues that were kind of annoying but not a dealbreaker. The back seats are small but fine for our kids. When my wife was in the front I could sit okay in the back since she is shorter, but I’m a little shorter than Marquez and my head was also touching at times. It really does handle like a car that weighs a lot less, despite this thing weighing a few hundred pounds more than my Telluride which is a full SUV! And it feels really fast on the road. My biggest gripe was the front seat comfort, where if you move the seat back, you don’t have a good rest for your arm because of how oddly shaped that part is. That and the built in Google Maps app sucked. It was horrible. Even in areas with perfect coverage it just wouldn’t load half the time, and when it did work it seemed glitchy to me. Meanwhile CarPlay was perfect. Odd little car. I wouldn’t buy one either, but I wouldn’t be upset if I had one. It fits a strange niche. It’s like some things are premium that probably don’t need to be, while other things should be better quality than they are. And it could use more range. Bottom line: Everything except the driving experience is just a bit unbalanced. Difficult to describe until you spend some time in one. I got to drive this one for the full range.

I own a 2021 Polestar 2 Launch Edition and I love it, already did 1 track day and 1 autocross event and handling is amazing, the way it handles turns and corners is amazing even tho it's a Awd car it handles good, lowkey better than my brz. Only thing I dislike about the car is when you drive hard battery life does go fast and the cup holders but love the car also my first Ev car. Good Vid !

I test drove the Polestar 2 and agree with your description of the handling. It was easily the most fun car I have ever driven. Even the non-performance version was super zippy, and tuning the steering to be stiff I found it handled incredibly well. Unfortunately, the "V" shape of the center console made it impracticably uncomfortable for my legs, and I'm only 5'11". I'm surprised your 6'3" did not complain about this. Ultimately I decided there was no way I could road trip in a car where I had no comfortable place for my legs, and opted for the EV6 instead. Shame, because I've driven Volvos for over 35 years.

I have a 2023 P2 LR and love it. One of my favourite features is the ease and simplicity of the UX, the Android x Polestar software is brilliant even as an iPhone user. My biggest complaint is lack of wireless Apple car play, and the 2nd cup holder (lack of!). I’m not into Tesla myself, and it’s a great alternative to the model 3.

I test drove a Polestar 2, Model Y performance, Model 3 performance, and Lucid (forgot the exact model but it was priced at 250+k canadian dollars). Polestar 2 felt the best.....most comfortable, solid, tight, and I liked the more simplified interface much better than the others. Even if I won the lotto today and had to pick just one of those I test drove, it'll be the Polestar 2.

I thought it was cute how you called extra precision, handling, etc upgrades rather than raw speed “unusual” because to me that’s the norm; but had to remind myself most American “performance” cars are dragsters! It’s all about the way roads are commonly laid-out I guess, city grids and freeways so prevalent over there. While most roads through old forests or whatever in Europe are laid-out like a Californian mountain road.

Last Nov I got the Polstar 2 2024 facelift single motor long range version. I can totally recommend it. I like almost everything about this car. Single motor rear wheel drive is enough for most people. I have only few issues with it: -price, could be lower but you get a lot of tech and equipment and in my case I got a very good deal -the cup holder situation -the back is not for tall people (although in my case for 2 kids in the back it is totally fine) -they could have made it slightly more aerodynamic and efficient. Yes, I know Polestar focuses a lot on design and they don't want their cars to look like eggs but bmw i4 looks good and it has much better drag coefficient. Between this and tesla I think it comes down to couple of things. If design is very important for you, if you prefer more old school interior (where there is much more than giant ipad in the middle), if you don't like Elon and have a bigger budget or get a good deal on the car than Polestar 2 is great choice. If the most important for you is efficiency and 0-60 time and you like super minimalistic design than tesla model 3.

I own this exact car and I love it. It's the most enjoyable driving ev I've driven. It is unreal. The price is fine. I would rather this than anything else. It's also not about 0-60. It's about the total enjoyment. The look, the feel, the drive. It's like art. If it appeals to you, it's worth it. And just to note, with software updates, I'm at 0-60 in 3.8 Tesla would advertise it at 3.5 with rollout.

Audio quality is the best of all the videos on this channel so far (it was bad and regretfully annoying in previous videos). Video quality has not been an issue for me in previous videos, but the warping (I would assume because of stabilising) in this video is a bit much. I know you said from the start that Auto Focus would be shot more “raw” (i.e. with phones etc), but then there is the other side of the coin - I watch your channels because of your superior technology content and professionally made videos, so the inferior video and audio distracts me from enjoying the videos otherwise. But as far as the way you review the cars go, that’s great!

As much as I love MKBHD content, this review is full of BS… let alone the poor video quality and phone constantly looking to focus… Ex Tesla Model 3 LR owner, I just ordered a Polestar 2 BST 230 in nebula. I’ve ordered a Model 3 refresh but I ended up canceling the order as, here in Europe, it was more expensive than the BST. I’ve got a cool deal with fleet discount and various other discounts that ended up being cheaper than the Tesla. I do agree that Tesla remains the reference in terms of EV efficiency and user interface but the Polestar is more of a car. I do get that Polestar aren’t for everyone but bashing it like that must be an American thing

I couldn't believe how awful it was over bumps. Incredibly harsh. Didn't like the user interface and then that whole center console is a bad design. It isn't a good use of space and doesn't allow your knees enough room to open up. I actually like how it looks from the outside but that was it. A very flawed design imo and its sales numbers are not great.

I agree with everything you say. You’d need to be nuts to buy a new BST. They depreciate so fast. Get a nearly new dual motor 400bhp car, then buy the power upgrade to take it to 470bhp. I really want a Taycan, and borrowed a 4S recently. It wasn’t different enough to justify the cost to change
