@@RayNLAtbh I think the old model 3 looks so cute and don't mind the design lmao. New one makes me feel like they are just trying to cut costs with the lights, front lights are so much smaller and the rear lights have had a massive chunk taken out of them and to save money they even made the light a single bar design instead of being split like the old one when u open the trunk so as to save more money cuz they only need 1 light assembly instead of 2

Drove one in Australia couple of weeks back. Main issues are - the glass roof heats up a lot and lets a lot of heat through (why Tesla doesn't do a retractable liner?); the second row seats are not very ergonomic so your legs are raised at an angle too much whereas Model Y has better comfort being a higher seating position for the legs; the lack of indicator stalks is not a great idea for when you need to indicate while still in a turn or to come out of a roundabout.

I purchased both a Model 3 and Model Y a year apart and both have a design in the bottom aero panel underneath the cars. In both cases, a screw or bolt came off and allowed for a portion of the front of this panel to flop down, and hence start to hit the road any time you go through a dip in the road. Eventually, this break off while driving. Also, when it rained, the cars would collect water underneath and get into the underside. This caused mildew and I had to replace the cabin filter earlier. Both cars were less than one year old. Getting both aero panels replaced cost me about $400 each from Tesla. They did not consider this to be covered by warranty. This is a design flaw that needs to be fixed by Tesla. If you do a google search on this subject, you’ll find multiple instances of this by other people.

@@Chad_Max Tesla is not soley a car company, it's a Tech company and I tell people all the time when purchasing a Tesla especially a lower trim such as a 3 or a Y youre purchasing the technology not luxury (despite the price range). However, considering they do build cars and have been in the Automotive industry a lot less time than most I think they're making decent stride. This new generation definitely has a lot better quality than the first and most people buying any product brand new first generation form should very much expect their to be a certain level of risk. This is why I never by the first generation of anything or the first year of a new generation. Give it a year or so, so they can work out the kinks then buy. Another mistake people make is buying new anything and expecting perfection. You should still be going around and checking your vehicle for things like this. I believe if the issues stated above had been caught early on it wouldnt have become as big of an issue as it did.

@@israelpage3663 They hired people from the automotive industry who know how to do it right. The EV car company with teething problems is history. The problem right now is that they are unable to finance further innovation because the stock price has been deflated for a long time. Why? Because they have a knucklehead CEO who doesn't get the simplest things. Like people aren't going to invest in your company if they don't trust you. Yeah, he's smart and was really impressive at first, but people don't trust him for lots of good reasons. He is spread too thin and his focus is elsewhere, X is a horrible mistake from an investor's perspective; he talks out of his keister, promising things he can't deliver or at least anywhere close to when he says he can. Etc. I know people will disagree but sorry: this is Wall Street, not San Jose and investors make up their own minds. As do buyers. He's made such a circus monkey of himself that a lot of people won't buy a perfectly good car because of him.

I gave up the $7500 tax credit by not buying the old model 3, which was a tough decision, but as you have pointed out, this is a significant improvement over the older version. you are the only reviewer who noticed the tighter turning radius, that I have seen thus far so that was a new twist I hadn't been aware of. anyway, good review.

nearing the end of 2023, Tesla announced that tax incentives would be changing but that was all they could say about that subject, so shoppers like myself were left to wonder... perhaps there would still be some tax credit? perhaps half of the old offers? it made deciding extremely difficult and many reviewers such as the one here, were similarly impressed by the highland. would you rather buy a new/old car that is basically "obsolete" as soon as you get it (original model 3) or a version that might endure for 5 or more years before another "refresh"? this debate was common at the time. My partner has had a 2024 Model 3 as a company car for 6 weeks now, and we love it. As MKBHD said, it‘s the perfect EV for beginners, even for me as a stick shift enthusiast, just so quiet and comfortable, yet quick. There is just one problem, and it‘s not the missing stalks: with the facelift, Tesla got rid of the dedicated parking sensors and also the rain sensor. The latter is a big problem, because the variable wiper interval just doesn‘t work anymore. The car almost never notices rain, and we have to use the button on the steering wheel repeatedly, except in some cases when we drive behind another car. The lighter the color of the car in front of us, the more „rain“ the car „sees“. In a queue behind a white truck, the wiper goes berserk, even in a light drizzle.
@kenlowe-ca

Missing stalks is a huge learning curve for anyone with prior driving experience. I can understand wanting to move away from a legacy fail point, but it is still a fundamental change. It is like driving in England on the left side of the road or the concept of roundabouts at intersections rather than stop signs and lights. (which, by the way, are fantastic once you learn how they work!) Does the current refresh rely on the cameras for sensing?

A few misses here. The door anchors are for improving safety for side impact from crashes and that high fidelity parking assist is being downplayed hard. You can move the graphic around to show your car in 3D space that allows you to really nail your parking. It really is hard to beat a Model 3. It offers so much for the price. It's a great vehicle for those who love performance but also efficiency. That's what I enjoy about mine. 0-60 in 3.5s while getting 140mpg. And Tesla has one of the best sound systems out there. I'm excited to start seeing the updated ones on the road.

I love how massively they have improved the M3, but there are two things that stop me from buying one. 1. No radar/ulrasonic sensors. This relies on cameras, which for me is a big safety concern and when it comes to parking in tight spaces, i will not trust a camera's depth perception. 2. Missing indicator stalks. Here in the UK we have a lot of bendy roads and roundabouts, so often the steering wheel is not in a straight position, so it makes it hard to hit the indicator quickly
@andrasbiro3007
@andrasbiro3007 Жыл бұрын
1. Watch a few FSD videos, and you'll see that their depth perception is excellent. Overall much better than radar or even ultrasonics. And the main advantage is seeing in 3D, while the traditional parking sensors only see in 2D. The software needs some tuning still, but already pretty good. And you always have the mirrors and cameras as a backup. I fount that I almost always ignore the parking sensors in my Model S, and just use the mirrors and the backup camera. 2. That's an issue, but you can get used to it. Countries with a lot of tight roundabouts are more problematic. The solution for that is steer-by-wire, I hope the Model 3 will get it too.
@RavzzG
@RavzzG Жыл бұрын
@andrasbiro3007 I almost agree with the parking side of things, because side mirrors will always be the go to. But I'm worried about the cruise control part, especially when the sun comes in at an angle, causing lens flare and at that moment a car could come into my lane. That's where the security of radar comes into it, I don't have to worry about weather conditions, it will just work
@wonderboy75
@wonderboy75 Жыл бұрын
@@andrasbiro3007Yeah, Tesla could remove the sensors when the software works as well has the sensor equivalents, but Tesla always removes things prematurely, like they did with wipers and parking sensors. Wipers are still not working after 5-6 years. For some reason some people keep putting up with Tesla doing this. They also like to sell you expensive stuff (FSD) that isn't finished but stays in perpetual beta. It's not even out yet in EU even though some people bought it about 10 years ago.

@@andrasbiro3007 Cameras can work well in ideal conditions, but when hit with direct sunlight, raindrops, snow, and dirt it's better to have some redundancy. Darkness and wet roads also affects their perception, so cameras are obviously limited by physics.

Test drive first bro. Test drives are now available in the UK. The vision only system has improved significantly with the recent high fidelity park assist upgrade and will only get better with future updates. The key to the new stalkless design is hand placement. I’d suggest keeping both hands at 9 and 3. That way they’re close to wherever the indicators will find themselves when turning. Sounds scarier than it actually is

Where were you able to test drive one? My local Tesla sales and service centre (Calgary, Canada) told me they won’t have one to test drive for a long time, as all new Model 3s are going directly to customers. I’m tempted to upgrade from my 2021, but I won’t do it without a test drive. I’m concerns I won’t like the softer suspension, because I love the way my 2021 corners like it’s on rails, with minimal body roll and pitch. The sporty handling is one of my favourite features of my car. But so many other things I would love in the refresh, from the ventilated seats to the quieter cabin.

I see a lot of people say that they would recommend the 3 as an entryway EV. I’m always interested to know if they would recommend it as an entryway vehicle in general for the price bracket. I’m considering getting the 3 this year and will have a little bit of guilt that I didn’t go for a more traditional car, that isnt just hype and features…but the 3 just seems like a reliable vehicle in general, not just FOR an EV
@ZipZoomZip

I wouldn't even consider the Model 3 an "entryway EV". I can afford any car I want and we have three Model 3s (because they are great cars). I appreciate driving dynamics more than most people and I'm not fooled by a bunch of lights and buttons on the dash or other doodads that try to make you think it's higher end. I just want a good driving car. I'm a big guy at 6'-04" and 215 lbs. and the Model 3 fits me like it was custom made for me. Marques claims the seats are even more comfortable in the update, I don't know how that is possible as the old ones were good for me after 600+ mile days.
