You'll be surprized to find that even Tiguan has features that are missing from a regular trim and normally they should be included. However, the truth is that you can buy a good accesorized Tiguan with much more less money that you would pay for a BMW X1. In fact, here you pay the tag/brand, but not the high quality.
@autogefuehl4 жыл бұрын
Indeed the Tiguan is better price performance
@sgtc45384 жыл бұрын
Iulian LAZAR - Agree, and I like the short Tiguan, a nice high-spec one with LED lights, the light coloured interior and you get nice trim in the cabin. And every bit of equipment is available if you want, a lot of it standard on an SEL, say. A top-spec, every extra, is quite pricey compared to a Qashqai or a Tucson/Sportage, but it's a nicely styled car with a good ride and an airy roomy cabin, and is a lot better value than an X3 or GLC, and less pretentious.
@l.e.i.41114 жыл бұрын
@@sgtc4538 As I've said in one of my previous comments buying a BMW you are paying the tag/brand. X3 is already the next level, lenght speaking, something similar to Tiguan Allspace. Tiguan might be a little bit pricy but there are so many trims and options that you can chose. Some of them are not absolutely necessary (please check on Carwow and see some features even Mat Wattson considers not necessary: black piano, fake exhausts etc). For instance I have bought my Tiguan in December 2019 chosing the first trim which in our country is Trendline even lower than Comfortline, the engine is the 1.5 TSI 130HP or 96KWh because the difference between 1.5 TSI 150HP or 110KWh is almost 2000euros and let's be honest, for a daily use in a non busy town and some trips during the weekend I don't need 40Nm more as torque (250Nm 1.5tsi 150hp vs. 210Nm 1.5tsi 130hp) and 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 100kmh or 0 to 60mph. I've chosen not to buy keyless entry, or keyless start or automatic trunk door as let's be honest not all doors are automated, I've chosen not to buy the DSG but the manual gearbox as it's more reliable and cost efficient though, no digital display but the upper infotainment and no navigation. Why? Once I connect my smartphone I have Waze and Google Maps. No hud because the lady from Waze will let me know when I have to turn left or right. LED front lights I let them asside as I do like the retro style of a halogen light, of course I've changed the bulbs with a more performant Philips ones. Even those classic lights have light assistant which works fine. I've chosen the comfort seats but the setting is manual because I wanted the front passenger sit to be fliped down and the electric does not allow that. You get the idea. In fact buying a car should be something smart not silly, by simply asking: do I need to pay more for that option? Is that really necesary for me or it's just a status symbol? This is why I've chosen my Tiguan configured the way I wanted to be without spending a fortune. Tucson is a nice car but is not my style, Sportage is even a nicer car than Tucson especially that shares the same platform but the trunk is smaller, Qashqai is also a very nice car but the trunk is also small and the space for the passengers is not so big either. Mazda is not my style. Toyota is a Manga sytle car, very reliable but an outdated infotainment. Peugeot 3008 is a very nice looking car and has some features even smarter than Tiguan, but my fat German lady as I use to nick name my Tiguan makes me feel confortable while driving.

It makes sense: if you have a short commute you can drive most of your km purely electric and if you go on holiday or do longer distances, you don't need to load the mandatory 478 or so apps for using the fastcharging network in Europe. But, if you can't charge your car during holiday, then ofcourse you don't have a fast car, but a small petrol engine only for a relatively heavy car. But it is a good compromise. I am only interested in an EV when finally you can pay with creditcard, EC card and some standard pay apps like apple pay or paypal like in any other ordinary shop, cafe or tankstation, so until that time a hybrid could be the best solution. By the way, your tests are perfect for me, since I am also 1.86 meters ;)

Thomas. Have you tried how the xdrive in the X1 e version works in snow, ice and mud? Would it be a real 4 wheel drive for “difficult” road conditions?
@Y3MINEM3 жыл бұрын
I've seen some videos where it does really well off road. The only issue is the ground clearance and the added weight of the battery only giving 90hp to the rear axle. So going up a steep, bumpy slope you might have trouble. But snow, rain, mud, forest trails, sand it managed without issue and better than the Audi Q3.

Great review (as always) Thomas. I think in this day and age this interior is the perfect compromise, modern looking but not too heavy on poorly thought out switches and oversized infotainment screens like the Golf VIII. There will come a time when we will miss tactile switches with a great feel to them. It’s what we used to guage a well made car by, as well as the door closing😊

I am in love with bmw g20 phev that you have presented in the past. And I am thinking if I am to cheat on my love for a bmw 3 series pure electric. The main reason that I am bored of the too many mechanical issues. You fix water pump, then a gear makes noise, then you have some oil leaking then you have head gasket then you need an engine rebuild or replace. Too many of those mechanical issues will be no more with electric vehicles but it would be also interesting to find a 10 years old electric or phev to check out the condition after all those years of driving

@@autogefuehl OK, so as long as I'm not in full electric mode, it will be all wheel drive, yes? I'm getting my 25e delivered in two months (company car) so I want to learn as much about it as possible. Assuming it should have no trouble doing some mild off-road? I know it's not a Land Cruiser but it should have no trouble in light snow or on a dirt road hopefully. Thank you for this wonderful video and for taking the time to answer. 🙏😊

@@autogefuehl usually. But in this case? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere online. If a depleted hv battery means the electric motor shuts off with no power to the rear wheels, then you're left with a 3 cylinder engine pulling a 2300kg payload. I'm sure that's a strained driving experience not to mention inefficient on petrol. There must be a way to ensure awd even if the hv battery is low. I know, just make sure the battery is always charged, but that doesn't work on long trips or remote areas. Thanks again for your time.

What I find a pity is that X1 18d is 150 hp and hybrid is 125hp+hybrid power, but if you run out of battery it becomes a bit... disappointing. Test drive it. I recommend bmw would consider 150hp+hybrid then they would win for sure. Nevertheless the feeling and drive quality of an X1 is amazing!! I had one and adored it absolutely. I even liked it better then the 3 series which I had. The feeling of driving it was amazing, nice view, driving was so enjoyable every time, interior is a bit more basic, but ok it is an X1, not an X5.

Hi Thomas. Great review! I my case I drive 40km both ways to work. I could potentially drive EV one way but gasoline the other way. When I calculate price for both EV and gas it will be more expensive than my Peugeot 5008 blue HDi 1,5l. Here I use around 4,0l/100km. Also, I have adblue and I do not have to plug in the car at night. My point or question is - could you perhaps make a video where you compare the different technologies and consider environment, cost, userability etc? To me 4,5l/100km is not that much considering that this is new tech... Kr Thomas from Denmark

If you allow me, every new technology is expensive and someone has to pay for that cost. I don't have a diesel but I drove a Passat over 50000km and I can compare the power and the efficiency of a diesel with my 1.5 TSI which of course is a gasoline engine. This is my opinion too: a good diesel especialy that Bosch is working on geting more efficiency in neutralizing the noxes is a smarter solution till the electricity (vehicle price, autonomy and charging speed) will be more convenient for a larger number of people. So enjoy driving your 5008 which is a beautiful car, by the way!

You are right. Even my Tiguan looks better, profile angle, and Tiguan is not a beautiful car but practical.

@@drunkenwhiskeyeu If you (not you, in general) are a senior it doesn't mean that you have to drive outdated cars. I expect to have such an old style on a low cost car, but on a BMW which cost a fortune?!

Iulian LAZAR I feel ya. I myself am in the market for a new company car, and it really pains me to rule BMW out. Overpriced and outdated. Not to mention dealings with their sales reps - unfriendly di.ks

@@drunkenwhiskeyeu You have to do like a SWOT analysis and list what you want to have in your car. A car is an expense not a revenue, except if you are using your car to make money. Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson might be a good option if you are looking for a well equiped car, but having also a nice design. Personally I like Skoda which by the way has so many original accessories, including life style. Many of them fit any VW car. However I've chosen Tiguan as it is more compact than a Kodiaq but bigger than Karoq. Seat Ateca is a very nice car. The dashboard looks somehow classical but the infotainment screen doesn't look like a tablet attached to it. It is as compact as Karoq. After a visit at the Bmw museum, Mercedes museum and Porsche museum as well as the showrooms in Germany, I've realized that Porsche worths the money. Bmw and MB not, especially that the higher is the price, the higher is the insurance, and those money won't get back into my pocket. Let's picture this: in a busy traffic I am much happier driving a VW Tiguan which is half the price than a BMW or MB. The 3 of them need to go with low speed and except German highways, the maximum allowed speed is 130 or 140 kmh. Later, in a few years, when electricity will be more convenient for all I will plan to drive the future VW ID4 or maybe Opel Mokka X which by the way looks very well, including the interior, or a Skoda Enyaq. Who knows?!

And ACC only with camera, no radar. Very unreliable in rain, sun from the front and snow.

As Thomas said: they ask for our money (in regards to the headlights which still are halogen). It's just marketing. A small detail here, another one there and the car is almost naked for a lot of money. This is why Corean cars began to be a better option from generation to generation, technology wise, design wise and even price wise.

@@gonzokryllake4587 yeah the ACC is shit (I have a X1), is it the same in the x3? It seemed better when I drive tested it
@gonzokryllake45874 жыл бұрын
@@HRK35 In the X3 you can get the ACC with radar if you order the Driving Assistant Plus (that's how it is called in Germany). Then you have the better ACC with radar and it is not limited to 140 km/h as it is in the i3 and X1 but I believe it works up to 210 km/h

Also disappointed, as many others here, especially due to the very small electrical only range and the lack of a faster charging possibility- for this price over 60kEur they should have fitted at least a 15 kwh battery with a range of 100km, the lack of an option to charge the battery from the ICE engine, when necessary, the lack of digital cluster, not even as an option, the lack of rear car alert in the mirrors, (BMW- take a look to the toyota rav4 prime and learn your lessons); good point though, is the rear electric axle. Once again BMW shows us is lagging far behind other auto manufacturers when it comes to electrification and not only :(

you take a look at our driving parts of the reviews, you see that we of course have clip-on microphones. However there are several good reasons to use the handheld microphone very often, we do that intentionally. See more details here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2nQk6qbr8mSjLs
