Never understood the hate to having them on the Infotainment system; it looks much neater that way. And to be honest, just set them once; to whatever is comfy for you. Then you don't touch them again. Mine is set to 21C, rarely if ever change it and do so when I'm at the lights, you still need to look at physical buttons to see what your'e setting it to. And you still learn where the touch section is in time.

It’s a sad time to live in when Skoda do the kidney grill better than BMW
@peglor3 ай бұрын
The worst thing is that BMW have nobody but themselves to blame for their awful looking grilles. My understanding is they're doing it to appeal to the Chinese market, to appeal to a different aesthetic to EU buyers, mostly because BMW have about as much of the EU market as they'll ever have, so no growth potential here. It is kind of funny if that's true because rear seat legroom used to be, and probably still is a huge thing for Chinese cars, which is why Skoda took a Passat 20+ years ago, added a few cm to the wheelbase to make more rear legroom and sent it to China as the first Superb Limousine and discovered plenty of other people liked the idea too. Most cars can't comfortably seat actual adults in the rear at all.

Why do you have such a Problem with just writing Leather? What do you think you accomplish by writing "dead animal skin"? Do you belive some people dont know what leather is?
@autogefuehl3 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWLEf42bpMano6c). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6G1f56NbtOlqNk And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKe7loOHnsSAd80 New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qXiouAbJeIiqM More and more natural materials are rising: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIO2pIt7o9x7etE Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2nKf4uih6yhnaM

@angushogg36673 ай бұрын
So, I thought would add a further comment. I have today been to test drive the new Skoda Superb 2024 with a view to buying one at the end of the test. It is a beautiful car and the electronics are incredible. Of particular note are the amazing travel assist functions which are simply outstanding - incredible road holding. I have already had 2 Superbs and am very familiar with them. My current one, which already has over 100,000 miles on it is only 3 years old and has the virtual cockpit and all the functions available at the time. Despite initial software problems, it is now a great car. So, what about the new one? Well, it is bad news frankly. I did not find the 'smart dials' that smart compared to the perfectly easy push buttons and dials I currently have. I did, however, like the map zoom function available on the centre dial. There are two things that are a massive downgrades from the previous model and are, for me, show stoppers. The minor one is the centre arm rest, which used to be very soft and very adjustable. The new one is very hard, uncomfortable and only opens along the centre - it is therefore not adjustable, which is very frustrating. It would not have stopped me buying the car ultimately, but it is way worse than what it replaces - why on earth would Skoda do that? However, the really big deal are the seats. I am 6 feet 2 in tall (around 188cm) and weigh over 110kg - yes, yes, I need to lose weight! Anyway, the original seats were such a selling point to me as they were just so wide and comfy - absolutely wonderful. The new ones are full of ventilation blah, electrics, massages etc. They are, however, 3-4cm thinner at the steering wheel end than the old ones. They therefore feel very uncomfortable and are jamming your bum in place rather than just letting you sit there comfortably. Try as I might, I could not get comfortable and have, extremely reluctantly, walked away. I have waited over a year for this and am absolutely dismayed that Skoda could have been so stupid as to put such terrible and uncomfortable seats in their top-of-the-range car when they had such good ones already. I turned up today to buy one, but have ended up walking away very disappointed. I have no idea now what car to buy next, but it will almost certainly not be another Skoda. Gutted.

I recently drove the new Superb and Passat back to back within a 1-day gap. Both had 1.5 MHEV TSI engines. Difficult choice indeed, they are so similar. But driving-wise the Passat was slightly better. It was quieter ( there was less engine noise in the cabin ) and the engine-transmission calibration/programming was smoother. Superb felt like it's lacking power in some low-speed scenarios. The storage lid on the left side of the cargo area had a better feel in the Passat and the spare tyre/tyre kit lid had a proper handle in the Passat instead of a small strap. In the end of the day I would pick the Superb personally because of the overall design and interior. Superb is slightly more practical because of the physical buttons. Oh, and the Passat also has an umbrella hole in the driver's door but it is empty of course.

A wonderful review. First, the limousine is just a prettier design, aerodynamics comes as a bonus. I believe that men who prefer the Estate or Combi visually must also prefer the buttocks of a drunk arrogant man sitting for hours in a pub every day over the rear side of the Miss World, it is almost the same geometric problem. The transition to SUVs and Combis is just another example of the mindless transition that actually represents no positive progress at all, much like the transition to touch displays everywhere and many other things. The BMW and Škodas may be very similar cars (the sensors in the middle of the quasi-two-part grill are just the newest example of Škoda's and BMW's being biological siblings, the adopted sister VW notwithstanding) but ultimately the buyers are totally different mentally. BMW still relies on the existence of badge snobs - people who psychologically depend on some superficial bragging - and must hope that they will survive 2025. Škoda is not only out of that class, it is really the leader in the opposite class, so they are complementary. Well, the anti-badge-snobs of Škoda really grew into a new type of snobs which is a good thing but only as long as it stays tamed. No real bad blood due to the competition, I think. The much more internal competition is with Octavia. Even some wealthy enough people who wouldn't financially feel the price of a Superb just choose Octavia which is partly a negative manifestation of the Dagobert nature of the Škoda buyers. A real comparison of the Superb and a cheaper Octavia - which may sometimes really look similar - may be helpful. Otherwise I have lived in Pilsen my whole life, except for 10 years in the US and 5 years in Prague. But I make lots of trips so of course I immediately saw it started with a tower like a Schwarzenberg tomb where I have certainly been. Oops, embarrassing to think about that first guess (which would be somewhere in Southern Bohemia). At the end I needed Google Lens to realize that it is the Goethe Observatory in Carlsbad (good place to remind all younger GFs about Ulrika von Levetzow whom Goethe came to platonically love in the Bohemian spas, she was 55 years younger but it may have been just Platonic). Damn, I have been there twice just in recent three years. I vaguely identified some other places, probably in Carlsbad, the curves... but it is still bad given the fact that the last time I was in Carlsbad was five days ago, on Sunday! A hike from Joachimsthal (where the ruins really looked scary) through Schlackenwerth, OK, Ostrov (upon Eger) is surely a better name for the latter! At some moment, I was worried that you would ignore the 130 kph limit on the Czech Autobahns etc. and police would show up, it could make the review even cooler.
@lumajs3 ай бұрын
Thank God, I managed to remember that the curves after 24:15 are near the path from the Imperial Hotel down to the spa where I have repeatedly walked and somewhat carefully looked, so I found the place at the "U Imperiálu" whose Street View on Mapy CZ matches the video, including the house at 24:34. You should like the name of that building (next to the Sanssouci Green House) because it is... Mercedes. The Sanssouci's bottom part (garage?) appears at 24:57.

How would you compare the driving comfort and soundproofing between the new Superb and new Kodiaq?
@johnbower7452Ай бұрын
Got to say that for looks alone, there isn't a Skoda in the range I don't like now. As much as I like the looks I wouldn't have an Enyaq or the new EV, but that's me, don't like EV's. Even my company is looking at getting rid of our Electric Vans as they have proved to be more expensive than running diesels.

The low drag and hatch might actually win me over. How much would you save in fuel annually as an average driver? I'd mostly be throwing in bikes and that could be not much worse with the hatch?
@peglor3 ай бұрын
The best thing about Skodas is that the hatch is the same length as the estate, so you have nearly 2 m of space behind the front seats with the back seats folded down. If you carry the bike fully assembled (Which is not a problem in the estate), you might find the handlebars get in the way of closing the hatch because of the lower height there. As for fuel, if there's a difference of 0.1 l/100km between them, you'll have to drive 1000 km to save a liter of fuel. My record (In a Mk2 Superb estate is 3 bikes, 3 people and a full set of camping gear for everyone, all in the car without anyone being squeezed). The bikes did have wheels removed though.

Great to see another excellent review from Thomas and friend Leah. I currently have a 2021 Superb and have already done over 100,000 miles on it. The first 2024 RHD demonstrator has arrived in the UK and I will be doing a much-anticipated test drive next week. I have been looking at alternatives to the Superb, including the BMW 5 Series, but it is almost impossible to find any other car with all the features of the Superb without paying £30k more. Although I have had significant software problems with my current Superb, they are all resolved now. I see this new one has some software snags too! I will be really interested to see if the 2024 model is good enough to tempt me to buy another one. My main disappointment with the new one is the arm rest that seems so much less comfortable and user-friendly than the current one. Other than that it look a winner.

Very informative video. On search for a new company car, and regarding space, vw passat and skoda superb are really good competitors/alternatives for the likes more expensive merc e class , bmw 5, audi a5 etc. You mention the user interface being something different between vw and superb. But I guess, it would be much worth it to just compare the two in a different video perhaps? More fun would be to compare drive from the expensive mercs and bmw ;)

I will never buy any car that has this type of screen!

Another great review Thomas. I actually own a 2017 Superb (sedan / liftback / hatch) and I have the Sunroof fitted on mine. From all the pictures / reviews I see of the new Superb I do not see any Sunroofs. Is it an option or has it been deleted on the Sedan? As I have seen it on the new Combi / Wagon.

It is DCC worth it ? I have the 2022 superb and I cant say I feel any difference between normal and confort mode. It is a difference when moving to sport mode, but I wonder if Skoda make any dcc improvement at this new model. In terms of price it would be an extra 1K euro. The key question was asked at the beginning which is why you might need a BMW M5 when you can have one of these. The answer can only be the BMW badge is too important for your self esteem. Before too much longer people are going to judge that premium car emperor is out of clothes.
@sbstn1103 ай бұрын
BMW M5 exists for purposes which no Skoda Superb will ever be able to fill. 😅 The regular BMW 5 Series on the other hand, that is a much nicer car to be in, but it's your decision if it's worth it to spend the extra money.

@@sbstn110 The inside of the new 5 is disgusting... as is the outside come to think of it.

Or if you want rear wheel drive.
@PaulMeier-cu3ds3 ай бұрын
@@sbstn110 Quite right to correct me about the M5. The 5 series is what I was trying and failing to comment on. My point is I wonder what you get for the extra money apart from the badge. There are still some things which the 5 series has which the Skoda does not but it is becoming harder to detect, and harder to detect whether it is worth the extra money. The wider point is whether the premium brands can flee to ever more expensive luxury and still sell cars before we see through the illusion. I think we are close to the point where we will stop buying because we do not need it.
@sbstn1103 ай бұрын
@@PaulMeier-cu3ds it is harder now to justify the extra money compared to previous generations, but there are drivers who only want RWD or a rear biased 4WD. Also, there's the option for larger engines, better gearbox, better sound insulation, better materials, better technology, better quality overall. Truth is you'd be paying 50-100% more for 10-50% improvements in most aspects, but there's the option available if you want it. It's understandable if the Superb meets all the needs, but it's also understandable if you want something more.

This, in estate form, will be high on my list if the 13 year old Superb estate I already have ever dies (And it's showing no sign of it yet). The only obvious downgrade on this from the Mk2 is the rear seat armrest, where depending on your height you'll be dinging your elbow off the cup holders when the car hits unexpected bumps. The Mk2 cup holders pop out of the front of the arm rest, so it can still be used as an armrest while holding drinks. It also has a storage compartment I've never used... The front arm rest isn't height and reach adjustable either come to think of it, and that would probably annoy me more.
