Agreed. I was devastated when Mazda stopped making the Mazda 6. My parents got a 2018 Mazda 6 when I was in middle school and it served my family very well. My parents told me it would be my car when I head off to college, but someone ran a stop sign and totaled the car. When we looked at the car market again, we were shocked with how few sedans there are compared to when we previously bought a car. It seems like the market shifted towards subcompact SUVs, compact SUVs, and SUVs (and trucks are still strong). I was surprised with how many car manufacturers no longer make sedans. After checking out the Camry, Accord, Kia K5, Hyundai Sonata, and Nissan Altima, we ultimately went with a 2025 Camry XLE and couldn't be happier with it. I never imagined that a Toyota could look this cool or feel this nice without going up to a Lexus. Plus having every single trim be a hybrid can be a game changer for those who want a lower priced option but still want higher mpgs if they opt for the cheaper Camry trims (it is basically a better deal than a Corolla hybrid or an entry Accords).

So I’m about 15 min in and wanted to weigh in on my personal experience with the accord as I’ve driven it fairly extensively on loan from my local Honda dealership while my regular ride got worked on. Yall are spot on with the pros and cons. That interior, while way more cohesive looking and better laid out than the Camry imo, is capital D drab. It reminds me of Volkswagen when they were at their peak; it’s very Germanic, very understated, to a fault. And I was driving an EX trim, which has even less material variability than the higher end hybrid models. No rear vents is such a deal breaker for me. These are all things I think Honda will (and should) address in the refresh next year or so. As far as the pros go: also spot on. The infotainment is solid even on the poverty spec and this is even better. And since they both drive relatively the same, the better seating position and ergonomic layout of the accord swings a win for me over the Camry. The seating position is so good and everything just falls to hand. The cupholder placement in particular is just fucking perfect. Sounds ridiculous but in a car like this it matters. Both my kiddos loved the backseat space too and that trunk is truly gigantic. While you can’t go wrong with either, I think even with my gripes, it’s the driver interface, simplicity of controls and better seating position of the accord that wins me over for the Honda. I do dig the Camry, but those little intangibles are a big deal. Now for the love of god get some color and rear vents in that interior, Honda.

As for your mpg comparison, you used an Accord Sport with swapped out 19 inch tires for your result of. 38 mpg. The Accord EX-L with 17 inch tires does get the advertised mpg of 48-51 during warm months over 50 degrees F on average. The EX-L is the hidden gem among the Accord line-up.

Interior noise dampening really does mean a lot to me (I put a lot of miles on broken highways and gridlocked cities). I’d probably make my decision purely based on that. When I’m in my motorcycle I want the wind around me. When I’m in a car I want an isolation chamber.
@aprtur7 ай бұрын
Oddly enough, if you're going to the high end trims, you're getting dangerously close to the Lexus ES and IS, Audi A4, Toyota Crown, and Acura TLX. If isolation is your number one priority, you'd probably be better off going a hair more expensive (or CPO) on one of those entry luxury vehicles, since they're considerably more insulated.

@@Mark-eu6mc absolutely - even saving a bit longer isn't out of the question since there are usually great deals on the ES. Or, for that matter, a CPO Avalon if the Crown is too outlandish (or you want the V6).

@@aprtur In order to get similar features in an ES (better sound, hud, etc) including hybrid engine it basically shoots its price up to more around $52,000. That extra $10,000 may be worth it depending on what you're willing to spend, but I'm still torn.

I'm sure that the felt wheel and under body panels do something for noise, but as someone that lives where there is a bunch of snow and slush for about half the year, I hate them. It absorbs water, gets heavy and sags, than freezes. It then gets torn up on ice chucks because it is hanging too low. I had to get new panels and then soak them in epoxy to harden them and prevent them from absorbing water. I'd take slightly more noise over that hassle any time.

The fake shifts also dont use the clutch, unlike what Mark says. It is emulated purely by engine rpm. Thats why sportmode stops fake shifting at high speed for most power. Highest available power is with clutch disengaged so inverter can combine max engine power + boost from battery. Electric motor power is the limiting factor.

The only thing you guys didn’t mention was warranty and servicing that you could add if you wanted to , still from an old car guy that worked in the motor industry, great review. If I was to pick one over the other , I’m a practical old bastard first and foremost, having a proper spare wheel and jack in the back is a must , they both look like good cars though , the other thing for me is runs on the board , I know Honda puts cars together well , but Toyota has been making hybrids since Moses was a boy , so there is that. Regarding the user controls layout being very nice in the Honda , it actually reminds me of an old ford sedan from 2001 here in Australia that in some ways looked very similar and I loved it , most of the controls on my old ford I could operate without even looking away from the road, I do like simple common sense design. Although as you said there’s probably no right or wrong, I’d be leaning towards the Toyota, that’s just me. Cheers !

Some of these comments about "boring" cars crack me up. Driving is what you make it. I used to drive a manual transmission Toyota Tercel 25 miles into NYC every day through traffic--top speed was 85 mph if you had the wind at your back. I had a blast driving that thing, wringing it out to redline with every shift, weaving in and out of the crazy traffic and around potholes, construction barriers, traffic cones, etc. A good friend owned a 911 around the same time. He never drove it above the speed limit. Guess who had more fun.

I will tell you as someone who owns the current vehicles in the 2020s and above. If you live in an area where the roads are bump and have potholes, the lane keeping assist is mostly useless as you would rather have it off. Radar cruise is good especially the adaptive cruise control in Toyota on the highway as that’s what’s I own. The one feature that’s underrated that you will enjoy is the automatic high beams.
