Like them both. The Accord is more technical and edgy. While the Mazda is more elegant and graceful looking while keeping everything just as exciting.

Just bought a Mazda 6. Compared the Camry, Accord, 6 and a used Lexus ES 350. The Camry was quickly rejected by my wife although that was my first choice going in. Found out the new transmissions aren't up to par just yet. The Accord just didn't impress me. It was ok but combined with a CVT and Turbo and the drop in Honda's reliability scared me away from the Accords. The Accord was very high on my list to start too... The Mazda actually wasn't on my radar until I started research. I had a hard time finding things I didn't like about the car. Even then they were small items. Last minute we tried a Lexus ES 350 slightly used. It was amazing but the price point was a little high and the colors/interior were a little old fashion. This ended being a close second. We are happy with our choice on the Mazda 6. Having owned a Toyota, Honda and a Mazda prior to this purchase I think I had some good background to make my choice.

Mazda 6 for me. 0-60mph is the most useless test for real world Drive in a family sedan.30-50mph 50-70mph ... are way more important in my opinion From car and Driver. The 6’s combination of immediate torque and fewer gears has it easily ahead of both the Honda and the Toyota in 30-to-50-mph and 50-to-70-mph acceleration, where Mazda’s claim to responsiveness is best substantiated. And rolling acceleration, so essential for merging and passing, is arguably a more important metric than standing-start launches for a mid-size sedan

The Mazda6 2.5T has the same 1/4 mile trap speed of 93.4 mph as the Accord 2.0T 10-speed. But the Malibu 2.0T has a higher trap speed than Accord 2.0T and is 0.4 faster around figure eight test and leads this field. "...the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds at 99.4 mph." "The 2017 Malibu lapped the figure eight in 26.3 seconds at 0.70 g lateral average and pulled 0.88 g around the skidpad." Where the 6 2.5T was slower at 26.7s The Malibu 2.0T blows the Mazda6 2.5T(33 mpg hwy) away in highway fuel economy with 37 mpg. Motor Trend The Mazda cannot put the power down or cannot distribute tire grip in braking on the figure-8 test and will be two full car lengths behind at .4 in arrears at 40 mph speed during the 27s test compared to the Malibu 2.0T. The Malibu will be quieter, ride better and have lower NVH than Mazda, regardless of what the magazines reviews say.

When I was in the market looking for a car last May, I sat in just about every mid priced sedan. The most comfortable seat was Mazda by far. The least comfortable was Camry, which felt like sitting on a cardboard box. My model was just below the Signature, which comes without the metal strip on the upper portion of the seat. For me comfort is the final test , and I’m happy to say that this car is just as comfortable as my previous Mercedes or BMW and just as much fun to drive.

Till I drove it. I did not like the CVT and wasn't about to buy a new type of transmission like that. So I bought a Mazda 6. It now has 102,000 miles on it and I haven't had a single problem. So for now it is Honda which offers manual gearbox on Civic and Accord. No doubt about the fun factor with the manual transmission. Car makers should do more to encourage their fun to drive qualities. Advertise and educate the younger buyer.

The Mazda 6 is just beautiful...I ALWAYS look back at it when I park LOL and I frequently have forgotten that I was driving a Mazda because the interior is echelons above anything else in the class...its like they literally lifted the interior from a VW CC or an Audi A4. I have the red too, and that color...exquisite, it's almost jewel like when the sunlight hits it. For the record... Japanese Cars should be made in Japan (Honda) ...its not reeeeaaaaallly Japanese if its build in the US is it now? Purity matters. Get yo self a Mazda 6 and get yo life :)

Our(Edmund's)2018 Honda Accord EX-L stickered for $30,865, including destination. Over the course of a year, we added 13,302 miles to our odometer. In this condition, the Edmunds TMV Calculator valued the Accord at $23,815 based on a private-party sale. That works out to 22.8% depreciation, which is slightly worse than the fleet average of 22% average. The depreciation level is even worse when you consider that the majority of our cars pass the 20,000-mile mark. Edmund's longterm Accord

As a life long Honda fan I drive a 2017 Mazda 6 GT now. I am very dissapointed with these Turbo Earthdreams engines. My Civic 1.5 Turbo had so much oil dilution. I have seen a lot of high milage SKYACTIV Mazdas that sound and look great, the owners all had the Routine done and the usual wear parts (tires, breaks etc...) Mazda has more experience with Turbocharging. Even with half a liter more displacement and fewer gears it still got better real world fuel economy. I have seen 6.4 0-100(60) times. If you are going to get an Accord get the Hybrid. That is the best Accord right now.

I test drove both and chose the Honda. The Honda feels much more spacious inside IMO. The leather on the dash is nice in the Mazda, but the tech features in the Accord are way better and more than makes up for that slight difference. Plus the 10 speed auto mated to the modified Type R turbo is a smooth and powerful combo that felt a step above the Mazda to me....and on regular gas to boot. The Mazda is a really nice car but I love my Touring 2.0T in silver with black leather interior...its a looker and in sport mode the active dampers tightens up the handling for a little extra fun. I am happy with my choice.

I just picked up my 2019 2.0T Sport manual 6-speed Accord, and I have to agree with this review. I had previously driven a Mazda6 4 cylinder in manual and both are great cars, but the Accord is a bit of a one-up in some ways, though I did drive the Mazda6 with the old interior a couple years back. I felt the Mazda6 had enough power from the regular 2.5 litre engine and the manual was great, suspension was good and I loved the look. Where the Mazda6 is a bit better is with small road level changes and bumps, but the Accord better with bigger bumps, which gives the illusion of higher suspension travel. But.............. Before I even watched this review I said the exact same thing about the Accord's brakes. I said it's like driving a video game. Sometimes it responds spot on, other times there is a small feeling of delay and then stronger bite, other times it feels like there are "steppings" or "zones" in the brake pedal travel where it grabs a bit, and then harder. Good thing I bought manual so I can do some engine braking. The 10-speed is nice, but the rubber band feeling typical of turbo delay was too much with the auto for me. Great review though and I agree 99.735%.

I enjoyed the video comparison. Not sure how you came up with the 0-60 time of 7.4 for the Mazda6. Road & Track which has been testing cars far longer. They clocked the Mazda6 at 6.4 and felt it would be even better if Mazda put better tires on the car instead of all season. The Accord they tested had performance summer tires on it. They also had different real world fuel economy numbers. In there testing the Mazda6 easily beat the stated fuel economy numbers and the Accord. fell short of its numbers. There are many variables that can affect the empirical numbers. Altitude, road surfaces, temperature and wind just to name a few. Both cars are good choices but I would go with the Mazda6 for styling exterior/interior, reliability and design. Honda’s styling is way to busy for my taste and if you don’t buy the top of the line touring model you get stuck with a CVT as your transmission unless you like a manual. CVT no thanks, would never buy a car with a CVT. If look at overall MFG reliability ratings Mazda is above Honda and Nissan.

We did very basic zero-to-60 testing. Nothing fancy, no racetrack, no $10,000 computer system measuring 50 vehicle parameters or anything like that. We were aiming to see which of these cars delivered better performance in normal, everyday use. As you saw, the Accord ended up being WAAAY faster. It feels like a friggin' sports car and, frankly, I was shocked by its performance. But the interesting thing is, the Mazda6 really doesn't seem that much slower than the Honda. It has SO MUCH midrange punch it's effortless to drive, even if it's a touch slower off the line. Thanks for watching! - Craig

There is one more important factor of buying cars. Although both of these cars are priced the same, they are sold at very different prices in general. For example, our two local Mazda dealers mark up their inventories with useless things such as nitrogen tire filler and tinted windows at ridiculously high prices. Even after a powerful negotiation, you are not getting too good of a deal on Mazda. On the other hand, all three Honda dealers price their cars competitively. The starting price of this particular Accord is already at 10+% below the sticker. With further haggle, you are likely to come out with a pretty good deal. I used to be a huge Mazda fan and still believe that the 2005 Mazda 3 Hatch I had for 8 years was the most satisfying car. Now, the Mazda has lost its zoom-zoom feeling even with a stick shift (or without). At least if you have a luck like winning a lotto, you can still find an Accord 2.0T with a real clutch pedal. Yeah, Accord beats Mazda 6 overall.

This was an extremely well done comparison. I agree that the Accord 2.0T engine/trans is slighly better and definitely faster off the line. Much of this should go to the Accord 10-speed trans. I just bought a 2021 Mazda6 GT Reserve which I believe is the better car for me. I could not get past the exterior styling of the Accord.... and the stereo absolutely SUCKS...... and I never use that word to describe anything....other than the Accord's stereo system. For me - the Mazda6 was the better overall package - I preferred the interior and exterior styling. It handles extremely well and feels more refined overall. Is fast enough and always feels relaxed.... has amazing torque. The transmission - many say it is old and outdated - but it actually shifts very fast in manual mode and is never hunting for the right gear. AND the Bose branded stereo actually sounds pretty good.... much, much better than the Accord's. Suggestion - if mentioning the infotainment system in a review (very subjective) - then you should also mention the stereo system.

As an owner of an Accord 2.0T Touring, I can confirm it's a great car. But why do reviewers consistently omit mentioning their opinion of the stereo quality? The Accord in its top trim has one of the flattest stereos you can buy at this price point and not one review of this car mentions that. The sound is flat while the Mazda's Bose system is very decent (former owner). I'd love it if talented reviewers like Craig came up with a simple test that would give them an opinion on stereo sound since it's a main feature owners use every single day!

The Accord has the up to date techno inspired look that looks really good currently. The Mazda-6 is just elegant in beauty. It will age more gracefully. As far as interiors, I'm torn. The biggest problem with the Mazda-6 is the "tacked" on screen. It's design is better. However, the Accord's interior is not as elagant in design and I wonder how the digital display will last. One factor I wish these cars would offer is the new ambient lighting tier-1 cars offering. It's gimmicky but it does make night time driving more enjoyable. Cole, what happened to your middle-finger? Who hurt you? Just give me the name and address and they will pay for smashing your middle finger, sir. No one messes with the Colemiester... NO ONE!

I've been "waving" at other drivers too much with that finger, hence the damage, LOL! In all seriousness, it actually got pinched between a couple leaf springs. A certain someone you may remember needed a U.S. address to get a Skyjacker lift kit shipped to (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5O5nnWGjcl_fK8). When unloading said kit, one of the SUPER HEAVY spring packs slipped out of hand, landing on my finger. Yes, a few choice words were uttered... As always, thanks for watching and commenting! - Craig

ErwinSchrodinger64 Dont you think both screens are tacked on? I think Mazda has implemented their screen nicely. All or most manufactures have gone with this style because it’s more affordable to build that way. Subaru has not. Hyundai has not.

@@2004cyrus , I was watching a SavageGeese eposide and he was talking about the "tacked" on screen. He said what you're saying: it's just cheaper to incorporate them into the dash. However, Lexus still makes screens integrated into the dash. However, prior to the last 2-3 years most manufactures integrated them into the dashboard. It seems with a lot newer model automobiles integration is the direction that many manufacturers are going back to. See the Lexus GS, LS, and RX. Mercedes is even moving into more integrated screen agains. While the Accord does have a tacked on screen what makes it look a lot better is if you look at the bottom of the screen, the bezels and so forth are integrated into the dashboard so it has a design that flows. Where as the Mazda looks like a screen someone just glued to the dash. Overall, I think Mazda's new direction in styling absolutely unique but with brilliant elegance. I feel that their design language is something Lexus can learn from.

My Mazda6 2.5L non-turbo does 0-60 in 7.6 seconds. Check the car magazines online that tested this Mazda - their 0-60 acceleration times are Always less than 7 seconds.

The Mazda 6 is seriously dated now. I remember looking it when it first hit the market in late 2012 as a 2013 model and here we are in mid-2019 and it has only been refreshed and not completely redesigned. It was, and still is, a great car, but the Accord is quite a bit better in many regards. The 2.5T in the Mazda is incredibly lackluster, performance-wise. 0-60 in 7.4 seconds is slower than my 2018 Accord Touring with the 1.5T/CVT combo. I saw Car & Driver test the Mazda 2.5T 0-60 in the low 6 second range, while the Accord 2.0T does 5.5 seconds. I don't agree with the Accord's supposed noisy interior in this review. My Touring is very quiet inside, especially on the highway. Nearly as quiet as my 2015 Genesis sedan was. Maybe the 2.0T is louder for some reason, but I doubt it. Also, the Accord Touring is currently the only non-luxury midsize sedan on the market that gives the Mazda a run for its money in terms of interior fit & finish. The Camry is a joke in comparison.

I was looking at these same two cars and decided to ignore rumors of 'oil delusion' engine problems, and Honda's 'water-based' paint peeling within three years, and just purchased a 2019 Honda Accord Sport 1.5t CVT. The deciding factors for me were the look, handling, gadgets, back seat and trunk size, and Honda's reputation for reliability.

@@mbenton6 You won't find the volume of Hondas/Toyotas with high mileage in a Mazda though. High resale value probably helps keep a Honda/Toyota on the road for 350-500,000 miles. I can easily find one on cars.com or auction sites, whereas a 300,000 Mazda is usually a Ford in disguise. In my area, Mazda owners tend to dump them around 150-170,000 mile range and then they end up at the corner pay here 15% interest lots.
