GM in China: 6C charging and 900V architecture. GM in US: Half the speed at half the voltage. Why? Because in China, they have to compete. In the US, we get the dregs. Is it ironic? Or inevitable?
@aps125Сағат бұрын
GM China can do stuffs that are not allowed here in the states. On the EV front they offload heavy engineering and software dev to their SAIC partner and other local firms. They can get locally sourced battery from CATL to stay competitive. GM brand itself also draws customers due to long time exposure. Ford and Stellantis lack those advantages. Those two are one dimensional, heavily dependent on NA home market
@Eileen-e8f3 сағат бұрын
GM had that "Skateboard" modular concept in the 1990s. Swap bodies like changing shoes. Could have several bodies and change as desired. Think of a "Body by Fischer: boutique carriage works. Would let industry still churn out products while the main drive components last years with little service.

Chrysler is done. Word on the streets of Detroit City is that Ram and Jeep brands are for sale to the highest bidder. Stellantis screwed up the most recent Ram launch bad. No one wants EV Jeeps. The EV Charger is a joke. Stellantis treats its suppliers like crap and many really big suppliers don’t even want to continue doing business with the company. I suspect that the next 5 years are make or break for the once proud American company that sold its soul to the Italians.

I wonder if GM has started to make money on its Lyriqs, either in China, the US or both. There have been a lot of naysayers about BM, and Cruise was a costly misadventure, while BrightDrop hasn't been doing that well either. However, they may have a winner with the Lyriq now that they have gotten over initial problems in scaling production. It remains to be seen if they will succeed with their broader strategies in North America and China.

I'd like to see the new US Transportation Secretary move to upgrade US Interstates to European weight limits and rural Interstates to be non speed limited such as sections of the German Autobahn. This would allow US car manufactures to compete with German engineering, speed up travel, increase driver awareness and decrease the cost of freight by truck.

Stellantis' vehicle production in Italy has reached its *lowest point in 68 years.* The rise of Chinese automotive manufacturers in the European market has intensified competition, affecting Stellantis' market share. In order that automated driving systems actually work, you need to post LIDAR emitters on light posts and light the road as you would using a light standard. You would need a data link with the data generated in the road you’re driving.

The transition to EVs has been inevitable since at least 1959. That's the year that the oil industry executives and several of their favorite politicians were put on notice that there was a very serious problem brewing related to CO2 emissions. Given the timeline, and the dimensions of the problem, its extremely crazy how much of the conversation is still about burning more gasoline. The person who broke the news to the industry in 1959 was no less than Edward Teller. If you know his history, you know that he is someone who would have their ear.

I knew it! I knew Stellantis' grand plan was to kill Chrysler. Sergio Marchionne proved this when he tried to gag feed Americans with that useless Fiat, which was a failure the first time and now continues to fail in North America. Alfa-Romeo does better, but they are outsold by nearly every near luxury car maker. Then they appoint that Carlos Tavares, who excelled in leading them in the wrong direction. Dodge Hornets are glued to the showroom floors, the all-electric Charger Hatchback is a failure in the marketplace and there still isn't an SUV of any kind at their "people mover" division, as Sergio put it right before he kicked the bucket. Stellantis seems bound and determined to be a success everywhere EXCEPT North America. Poor Walter must be turning in his grave!
