China doesn’t have excess capacity; not in EVs anyway, while USA and EU/UK drag their feet in EV, China will happily provide well made good value EVs. It’s Germany (for now) that have excess capacity - in ICE making (who wants another ICe when you could have an EV), Detroit making a big detour into hybrids but that’s not going to save them, EVs are so much better it’s inevitable they will be adopted by all in due course.

BYD are not a construction company, they do not build factories. They use 3rd party contractors to build factories, just like EVERY other manufacturer. The slavery issue3 relates to the building contractor. Why BYD is not using local contractors is probably more of the issue than anything else. The Brazilian government is probably running a smear campaign as it expected local jobs to have been created for the construction of the plant. Instead BYD used a favoured Chinese contractor and Chinese employees who work for less than their Brazilian counterparts. If the labourers get paid less than Brazilian counterparts, they "must be slaves" in the argument being used because construction workers in China get paid less.

As a matter of fact, Chevron has maintained a close relationship with Stanford for quite a long time, especially with former Stanford Provost and current director of the Hoover Institution Condoleeza Rice, who also took a seat on the board of Chevron and if that's not enough, had an oil tanker named after her as thanks for all of her favors to Chevron. On the last trading day in 2024, the yuan touched $7.3698 per US dollar and reached its weakest level since October 2022. Because most Chinese have their wealth in real estate many lost their life savings with the crash of Evergrande Group.
