I'd LOVE to see you guys do more videos on hydronic heating systems!

Please add more boiler videos would be awsome if you and Brian Orr teamed up to make 3D videos for boiler operations, troublshooting etc. You guys have been helping me learn a ton for almost 8 years because I never went to school for this. You and Brian Orr have been the best I've watched. Please make soild boiler videos just like all your your furnace and AC videos. Doing great work!

Why does he need Brian Orr? Brian doesn't know much about boilers.

Plus 1 on more video’s on Hydronic systems and also a major for us newbie on commercial hvac is chillers, the dreaded refrigerant leak detections on a chiller and components👍

This was super helpful. My air vent was leaking on a used indirect unit I installed, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a replacement for a few days over the weekend. I was able to clean it up and it works great now thanks to this video.

What a great video- I’m an HVAC designer and it’s nice to see the insides and how these automatic bleeders work and can be serviced, not something usually found in a catalog! Typically if I found a leaking one on an existing system I would recommend it just get replaced- but depending on the type it might be worth having the maintenance technician open them up and clean them out as a first step- in large systems that could save a decent amount of operating budget.. I’m also gonna give some extra thought into placing them right after strainers or dirt/air separators to minimize the amount of gunk that gets into them- the one looked pretty clogged!

Another great video Craig! It would be good to add that these should not be installed on boiler systems that have the old open expansion tanks. They should only be used with bladder style tanks. They will siphon the air out of the older tanks then the boiler will over pressurize.

Thanks for the video, is there one valve that does it all that you recommend? Antisiphone, micro-bubbles and auto bleed?

i believe i have the 2nd model shown here. I noticed water dripping from it and down the tank itself. I watched videos and tapped on the tank it sounds hollow so i think its still good. I was told i can turn the little knob at the top clock wise and that will stop the water from slowly dripping out of it. Its this true? And if yes how much should i turn it? Full turn a few turns? Thank you in advance

I never put these vents on. And if I do, I put a small ball valve on them for easy change out/servicing. Microbubble reabsorber, pumping away from expansion tank is the only way to go for trouble-free operations related to air.

Interesting. I am going to replace my air vent. Which one do you recommend? Currently system has a Maid O Mist 67 vent.

I have a Taco Hy Vent on my boiler and it's leaking water. I tried to fix it by just cleaning the rust out but it has an indentation in the rubber seal where it touches the plastic hole that comes down from the cap inside. It also might be leaking from the seal around the cap itself. How do you tighten the large cap itself, by hand or using a tool like a pipe wrench or something else? I have ended up replacing this about every 5 years with a new one even though they look perfect other than an indentation in that small rubber inside.

sometimes they're automatic water leaks.(all too often), educate and teach the homeowners to check, maintain and operate them manually, very often. been there done that, people forget and never do the maintenance. nobody ever rebuilds/cleans them (Ok, yes I have, while waiting for purging/refilling/parts runners) but in general, everyone just slams in new air-vents, relief valves and expansion tanks all at once, very often the fill valves too.

My system is in the basement, and I have a reznor heater in the garage without a bleed valve or air vent. What a pain……. Had a company quote me for a new boiler. Current boiler is only 80k BTU. He wants $9600 to put in a new boiler. I was hoping to avoid doing it myself. At those prices I don’t see where I have a choice
