KOIAI is a pretty new supergroup, so not surprising that you'd not heard of them. They haven't released a whole lot yet. All of the members are or were members of other bands, and my hope is that this is more than just an ephemeral project. On guitars, you have Li-sa-X, a well-known guitar prodigy and Hazuki, another great guitarist from the metal band Nemophila. The drummer is Kanade Sato, an incredible drummer whose work has been mostly in the jazz fusion world up to this point. They just released two songs from a live Blu-ray concert, one mid-tempo and another very high energy, and both great.
@jackspratt72643 ай бұрын
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. That's Kanade on the kit??? The last time I saw her she was mad little still. I didn't even know she knew Li-sa-X or Hazuki for that matter? Li-sa-X gets around. The youngest person I ever saw her collab with was Yoyoka Soma. She's played with her quite a bit over the last 3 years. But but Kanade-chan hitting them skins? I mean the kid was always good, but she was never THIS good. lol I guess it's been a minute since I saw her play.
@philcalvino8843 ай бұрын
@@jackspratt7264 Yeah, it's kinda crazy how she's blossomed as a drummer. And no offense to her other fusion projects, but KOIAI is the place where her talents will shine the brightest.
@jackspratt72643 ай бұрын
@@philcalvino884 Koiai has the most commercial appeal to be sure. But just like Yoyoka Soma , who (by the way) just formed a band with Charlotte Milstein called "Knockout" and who plays in a dope jazz fusion band herself, "The Ken Okada Group", Kanade is an asset to any group she's in. These kids are making power moves out here.

Thanks Jeff, I knew you would love this. KOIAI is kindly brand new-ish with Kanade (drummer) just recently added in. She's been with other groups as well like The Muses with Juna Serita (Tokyo Groove Jyoshi) Hazuki, the other guitarist is with Nemophilia. They still dont have a bassist (I wish the would get Mina (Girlfriends) though). They had their 1st concert late 2023. I send you more once they release more songs on youtube.

Kotono is the new lead singer ( the main reason for the name change from the Lisa-X band to Koiai) Kotono served as a support dancer for Babymetal in 2018. Then she was a singer for Ironbunny where she met Lisa-X and Hazuki. When Ironbunny disbanded Lisa-X did a couple of demo MV with her and signed her.

KOIAI has just posted 2 great high quality live videos on their KZbin channel. I only listen to metal, but I have to say these two live rock songs are the finest. Hazuki and Lisa-X are a great rock guitar duo. The female bassist is the great Wakazaemon (Marty Friedman Band ), Kanade Sato refines the drums. The singer Kotono has a pop voice but it fits and it's good how she sings. You should check out the two songs or make a reaction video of them as well. Very well played live rock - all respect.

I completely agree with you. The arrangement is absolutely stunning. Music wise, this version is FOR ME better than the original one, even the Dirty Loops version, (faster tempo, and vocal and instrument playing are mind blowing). For me, it is not completely a surprise. I follow these musiciens for a while, actually before they decided to create this insane band. The funny thing is: in sport, put the best players in the same team does not lead to have the best team in the world. Well, it is not true with Japanese musicians. Next track to review: "Come see me". An amazing original track from them in the same mood. Enjoy! 😁

Sato Kanade has worked hard her whole life to achieve success. And Li-sa-x working since childhood to get to this high level of talent. All these ladies are amazing. They work incredibly hard, never quit, never get tired, they have mental strength and iron will!❤🔥🔥
Original is written by 16yo Japanese girl, Hikaru Utada, single off her fist album. The album sold 8.3 million copies in Japan. It was then covered by dirty Loops and now Koiai, which is best version to date IMO. WTF ? Guitar arrangements are insane, as well as bass and drums. And that golden voice.OMG!

Yes wow. Kanade Sato is a miracle. She is brilliant, elegant, powerful and full of fantasy. Her stock of patterns seems inexhaustible. And she is the youngest drummer who gives master classes. With 13 years she was at a point which barely any professional drummer gains in his whole life. She is the best of everyone who ever seat behind a drum-set. By the way... Japan is full of over the top musicians. For everyone who like her, here a playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PL6g6Bn0LiFZP7UuZcayh4F51dAs1RUuXJ&si=dQFVikaPlDhFfHm3 PS: There is also Senri Kawaguchi. Kaneda Sato (drums, child prodigy) another genius, she is a Jazz Fusion drummer. She is a genius. Did I say she is a genius? Check her channel. And on top of it they bring in Wakazaemon from East of Eden and Marty Friedman on bass for live performances.
@hiawatha.g7 ай бұрын
The word “prodigy” gets thrown around way too much. In this case, it is fully deserved. Lisa-X has been posting music on youtube since she was seven, did credible covers of Dream Theater and Polyphia at 10, and has had her own band since she was 13. The core members of Lisa-X band were Lisa-X, Rina on vocals and Hazuki, formerly of Disqualia and now the lead guitarist for Nemophila, on co-lead guitar. Rina left the band in 2022 and the band took a hiatus to rebuild. They re-emerged as Koiai, and can legitimately claim to be a supergroup. Kotono joined them after stints with various groups including Ironbunny. The big catch was Kanade Sato on drums. Sato is also a member of Muses and is in big demand as a session drummer. She is regarded as being hot on the heels of the incomparable Senri Kawaguchi. Wakazaemon has been appearing as a guest on bass. She frequently tours with Marty Friedman and is also a member of East of Eden. Here are some links worth checking out. The first one is Lisa’s 2017 appearance at the annual female rock festival organized by Show-Ya-she is up there with some of the best guitarists in the world and they clearly love sharing the stage with her. The third one is her collaboration with the even younger drum phenom, Yoyoka Soma, who is herself a force of nature. At NaonのYaon (age 12): kzbin.info/www/bejne/npPIiGqPqstgl5I With Hazuki: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3_CoH-nidCUbK8 With Yoyoka: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGqaeX6unJl2rc0 With Billy Sheehan (!) on bass: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvWoqCkesZrb8U Here are some links to Koiai: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nV6tdoiNo7magLs kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIKymaCFbKaZaKs kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ_NcptrbbR0Z5I (cover of Dirty Loops version) Overall, rock is not only in good hands, but arguably has been taken over by Japanese women. The future looks great!

I think the video of "One More Chance is Enough" ( the Billy Sheehan link) is important enough to upvote. Most people's first exposure to Li-Sa-X is as a child prodigy shredder, but this video was uploaded just weeks after her 15th birthday so it was written, and likely recorded as a 14 yo. The maturity in her writing and playing is nothing short of astounding.
