I have a tip for you: if you build a small water storage right next to each of your housing blocks and set it to "obtain"... the beavers generally grab a drink of water when they all wake up, so if you have a water storage right next to the housing then they don't have to walk right across the map to get a drink, they can grab a drink straight away and get on with their day.... just saves that extra bit of beaver work-time.

one thing I will note about automating labor is that employment is required for beavers' maximum wellbeing, so you'll want to make sure they have something productive to do for at least part of the day
@ramont8020 Жыл бұрын
Unless I missed a change in update 3, that's not actually the case. If you click on beaver you can see all the things that contribute to their wellbeing, how much of a bonus they give and what the targets are for the next tier of productivity/speed/longevity. Employment is not one of those things. A beaver can happily lay around all day and max out at 59 (for folktails) wellbeing while the bots do all the work. Having said that, a max wellbeing beaver is more productive than a catalyst powered bot (150% vs 90%) so unless the job has a high injury rate (explosive factory, bot assembly) or benefits from a large carrying capacity (haulers, distribution post) you will still want happy beavers beavering away. Water pumping and construction jobs allocated to either at your discretion as needs dictate.

Hi Phil, love the Timberborn series. My factory is so big my comupter is bogging down, lol. You built too many bot assemblers for your part factories. If you check the production times, it takes 18hrs to make one set of parts (one chasis, one head, 4 limbs), and 36hrs to assemble a bot. Thus you can have three factories and two assemblers and all the production lines math our evenly, without any need for storage at all. Oh, also, you can stack the factories, and put one of the assemblers on top. Makes a big metal tower, lol. Regarding the bot life-cycle: - Bots require biofuel each day. Catalyst makes them go even faster than they already do. Without biofuel, they walk slow, like an injured beaver, and look only for biofuel, they won't do work. Catalyst bumps them to max bonus (+90% work speed, +60% walk speed). - Bots live exactly 100 days (or, rather, 100 biofuel refills, but they do that once a day). At the end of 100 days, they break down and must be replaced. You don't recover parts, and they can't be repaired; they have to be replaced by a new bot from the factories/assemblers (and of course, each new bot needs a chasis, head, and four limbs).

bit of a heads up on the distances and reaching out from the town hall. The sidewalks are one square per square but the steps are two per staircase so whenever you can eliminate steps you need to do so. for example at your excavator you have it going down two steps and then back up one, instead go down one staircase and then build platforms across and you would save distance.

You keep adding storage units to keep beavers working, but that doesn’t fix the core issues. The job priority feature is helpful, but there’s still some micromanagement needed. Once you have baked potatoes to last you a couple seasons, it seems you just need to pause the building and let the beaver do something else. It’s not clear if you _have_ enough paper/food/wood, but at some point a bigger store won’t be helpful.

@justinsinke2088 Жыл бұрын
You have nearly 3K food in storage at the start of the episode (and nearly 9K by the end, that's a lot of food), I don't think you really need more food storage. If anything, you're overproducing food and could increase your population (frankly if anything I'd say you're lighter on water storage than you should be, but I'm also the person who shuts off all my pumps during drought and lives off the storage until the drought ends). I believe beavers only eat about 2 units of food per day last I researched, though they may grab more to fulfill needs, not sure. So if that holds, and you have 73 beavers who eat 2 units of food a day, that's 146 units of food per day, meaning you have...18 days worth of stockpile. Hmm...not as much as I thought honestly, but that's still 18 days you could go without harvesting any food whatsoever and still be fine, and if you're maxing out your storage quickly, that means you're still producing a fair bit more than you're consuming, which is good, but if you're never really needing to draw from the stockpiles, there's not much reason to have even more storage. Honestly, having food production as a perfect equilibrium is actually something of a dangerous position, as then if there's any hiccups (or population spikes), you're running a deficit on food, and that (along with water) is the last thing you want to be running a deficit on. If you want bodies to work things like construction and you have an excess of food you're running low on storage for, you could just turn your farms off to free up the workers, have hungry beavers pull from storage until you hit a certain threshold, then turn your farms back on. Or maybe have only 1 beaver instead of 2 working the farms to slow down their production rate which should also mitigate work downtime if fewer hands are working the job. At around the 24 minute mark, when you found buildings were out of range, that issue is preventable. It's also why you want to build your paths first before any structures, as if the completed paths exist first, you'll see if the district line connects during building placement, so you know before committing to the building whether or not it's close enough. I'm...confused as to why you used large warehouses for your bot parts. It's not like you need parts for repairs (that I'm aware of), and the idea is to turn those parts into bots, so there's literally no need for such massive storage, as those parts should be turned into bots as fast as you're making them until you have enough bots to do the jobs you want. In their current state, to my understanding, they also live forever, they just need power otherwise they refuse to work jobs, so once you have built what you need, there's not really a need to build more until you want to expand your operations/districts. I don't recall anything about the bots breaking down or getting injured (which is another bot benefit, working factory buildings without the risk of injury), but maybe I missed something in the patch notes there. Also you got it backwards; timberbots need biofuel base, and catalyst is a booster; it's their sole "wellbeing" bonus, as it were. You can easily check how many beavers/bots are employed/open jobs/unemployed by the graphic in the upper left under the wellbeing number. The first bar show adult beavers, kits, and bots. Below that is beavers with beds, spare beds, and homeless beavers, below that is employed beavers, open jobs, and unemployed beavers, and below that is the same for the bots. So at the 42 minute mark when you looked to see if there was any unemployed bots, you could just look at that corner to see you had no unemployed bots and 12 jobs set for bots that lacked workers. As an aside, watching this map be played, I kinda hope they take a cue from the gravity batteries and make platform elevators for beavers. Sure, it might require some tweaks to the beavers pathfinding AI, but I think with the verticality of building that the developers say is something of a core feature, that some kind of elevator would look nicer and work better than massive networks of stairway paths. At least once you have the science to unlock it and materials to build it.

"There is only one job robots can't do, and that is science" - the powerwheels are also beaver-only, but usually at this point in the game one shouldn't be needing them anymore. I think your robots also occasionally need biofuel when running, not just catalyst. Terraforming: I think it would make sense if an dynamite explosion produced a portion of dirt to be used later for dirt blocks, not just having it disappear. But I guess that is a bit annoying early in game when you have the dynamite but not the robots.

Dirt Excavation: so, just for creating build-able area for industry, housing, etc, platforms (or levees/dams in some places) work fine; don't need the dirt for that. Seems to me the real value of dirt the is the ability to create water-able areas for planting additional crops & trees, as well as the few "ground-only" buildings like piles & campfires (altough it's usually not hard to find an existing spot for the latter). Am I missing something? I might very well be...am not yet far enough along in my own first playthrough to have gotten bots running.
