Nice sounds and great technique! The reason bypass automation causes clipping is if the "look-ahead" function is on. It splits the signal and delays one side by 7ms, so the transients won't quite make it and get wacky because the bypass is a on/off hard switch Sometimes I use "peak-ref" mode for the auto-gain compensation when I automate the threshold. In "low-ref" mode I'll simultaneously automate the makeup-gain, depending how much the threshold is lowered to match the drop in output level.

I like both of them and they do different things for me so I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other. I'm using less full band compression on vocals these days and if I do it's mainly for smoothing the peaks or because I want a certain tone. The R Compressor or the L1 is great for smoothing peaks. If I need a vocal to be louder than I would normally just add a compressor in parallel. Cheers

I'm trying to get a vocal cleaned up which is even harsher....I autamated the volume and that helped a little, but this is a much better approach that I've never thought of.....Thank you

Is being supported at this point? Last time I used it, it was very buggy and a pain to work with. But when it worked it was really useful. The Waves one just works, ALWAYS and it goes on sale all the time. I got it for only $29 and I use it in every session.

good video tip i notice more and more your using that c1 compresser on vocals a lot lately but will you prefer that over the r compressor cause still from this day I still find my self going back to that r compresser and just use sc compression after it for what you was demonstrating from split mid ranges
