Hi Gunny, love your videos and the unbiased, no BS honest reviews. I have a question and I wasn't really sure where to post it and being that this is the latest video of yours, I thought here might get seen. I've bought the Iwata Bellaria W400 with the 1.3mm tip with the intent of using it to paint colour and clear on some panels. I've also bought some Concept 2K High Build primer to use first but my question is, will I get away with using the 1.3mm tip that comes with the Bellaria gun with this primer or should I really be using a big tip/gun? Thanks again for all your content, without a doubt the most comprehensive automotive spray painting channel on YT. 👍
@TheGunmanChannel4 жыл бұрын
There's nothing stopping you from spraying 2k primer through it but it's really not ideal unless you add some extra thinners, but in doing that you lose build which you really don't want to do. I'd recommend getting a cheap 1.8-2.0mm primer gun, FLG5 or AZ3 are 2 good affordable options.

Love watching your work. I am getting ready to fix a scratch on the lower front bumper on my Wife's Mercedes, of course I inflicted the scratch, I am scared shitless. Luckily its in an area I don't think is too noticeable, but I will have to sand , maybe a little glazing putty to fill the scratch , prime, paint match and clear coat. The car is Iridium Silver. Any tips Gunny before I screw anything up?
@jaykrom8524 жыл бұрын
Just feather edge out the scratch with 180 or 240 sandpaper and prime it with Transtar 2 in 1 grey spray can primer ( or some equivalent). Sand that with 600 and then rewatch Gunny above and just paint that shit!

Hi. Awesome video. I wanted to check what gun do you think is the best. Im trying to decide which paint gun to get either Tekna pro lite or an iwata ws400? Any thoughts or suggestions on other guns and which you like best. Also how far do you usually turn your fluid level down to. Thanks.
@TheGunmanChannel4 жыл бұрын
I usually just have the fluid right open, but if you're inexperienced I'd recommend starting at around 3 turns out and tweak from there to what feels right. Honestly I think the pro lite would be the better gun if you are learning, for starters they're cheaper and I find them the easiest to just pick up and spray. Get the TE10 or TE20 air cap with 1.3 tip and that'll handle anything except thick high build primer.

Maybe not relevant but I have a question about clear coat scratches. I have been told some Asian brands (not nominating any) have very think clear coats applied. I always hand wash my Hyundai I30 (12 months old) and after washing and then drying with a quality chamois I see that there are swirl marks within the clear. Do you have any advice on (a) how to avoid the scratches and (b) how would you recommend getting rid of them. Many thanks.
@TheGunmanChannel4 жыл бұрын
I really can't say how they got there but I'd go have a look at this vid, basically the orbital polisher should remove the swirl marks, and a good quality polish and wax should help protect the paint too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYPJe4p8e79gpdE

I have a badly deteriorating hood on a bugeye WRX, a lot of work has gone into the car and I really want fix up the hood with a respray, maybe do the full car after I have learned the basics. I'm pretty broke, I can't afford a pro job. But I can borrow a compressor, gun and sander. I can afford the paints and and other bits. Due to the lock-down in my sate, I can't go anywhere to ask for recommendations and tips and no one is answering my emails. I have all the time in the world and the will to do this, but I'm stuck at this point. I don't know which paint products to order, what primer to use, if I even need to prime... The entire thing gets more complicated the more I look into it. Could someone please give me a hand? Just give me a basic gist of what I will need to order to get the ball rolling. I can take pictures and upload them if someone is willing to have a look, if that would help in determining what I actually need to do. Basically, the clear is peeling off the middle of the hood, with a few rock chips. So I'm thinking sand the panel, putty the chips, then prime? but which primer, which putter.... I'm just really confused right now, sitting here super bored and wanting to get started but I can't. If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it
@jaykrom8524 жыл бұрын
Since it's been a month, I'll put my 2 cents in here.... Sand all the old clear off- and maybe all the way to the edges of the panel so that the feather edged clear doesn't show in your top coats. Feather out the chips, too- no putty that way. I work slow with 180 or 240 grit , trying not to go through the factory primer. The color coat is so thin you won't save it. Then prime it with just a quality spray can type like Transtar 2 in 1 (use this on your bumper also, as if your hood is that bad, your bumper is toast too!) The 2 in 1 designation means you can use it on steel and fexible parts. You could use a 2K primer which is ideal, but more stuff is needed...Just sand to 600 and rewatch a bunch of Gunny's videos- he has a great one on fixing his own car in his garage. Good luck.
