Automotive Relays: When, Why and How

I had a project that required use of an automotive relay. Turns out, they're not as scary as they look! In this video I break down when they come in handy, and how to use them.

Relay could help! Definitely get your battery tested too - if its not AGM, u could be toasting it by discharging and recharging. I just picked up a optima yellowtop for this exact reason!!!

Have you ever heard or know how to make the stock under glow light run of a switch. This way I can turn it one when ever I want to. Currently it turns on for 30 seconds when I unlock the door.

did you connect this to your BlueGhozt? i’m lost on how to wire this so my Glowes don’t kill my 12V.

Yep so I have the relay that delivers power to the underglow strips connected to one of the outputs on the Blueghozt plus. I can set it to Triggered or Basic but whenever its OFF, the strips get no juice so no draw on the battery.

So what I’m trying to understand is how does the leds turn on without an actual switch being flipped to send power to the blueghozt or for example the sp602e? So that when you unlock the car it’ll turn on the inside lights and stay on….?

Blueghozt plus is on full time listening for commands. One of its triggered outputs flips a relay that switches power to the strips. 🤓🤙🏾

@@SquareWheelsAuto so you have 2 blue ghozts? For inside and for the under glow or just one blue ghozt and one sp206e? I wanna do the welcome lighting in my Honda but no clue I know where all the fuses get power with the turn on but any idea?

Could all be done with 1 hypothetically but I have 1 for headlights grille and underglow, 1 for interior overhead And foot well, and 1 SP for the rope

What else can I tap into to get my lights to turn on when I unlock / lock my car?

Parking light, puddle light, or drl circuit. They all get power for like 30 seconds on unlock

@@SquareWheelsAuto i tried tapping into the puddle light but for some reason my lights stay on after the lights turn off. Kinda stumped. Gonna see what else I can tap into
