My CX-50 Turbo Premium is 3 weeks old now & I love it ! I'm 6'1" 240lb & am very comfortable driving it. It is definitely a road cruiser with a real transmission, not a wallowy CVT.

You misspoke at min 2.30, the CX-50 is built at a shared plant in Alabama. The screen is a touchscreen and with Apple CarPlay you can enable touch while driving too. The drive modes does not change the suspension. The drivers seat height is adjustable. At 5’11” myself it’s not too low of a roof line with the seat adjusted.

Thanks for sharing! This one must have had touch turned off in the settings because off camera in park I tried to use the screen and it didn’t respond to anything I did. Thanks for sharing!

I’m 6’3” tall and I have ample head room, and more than ample leg room. As you already pointed out, the driver’s side seat adjusts up and down.

Love my cx-50 turbo. Was a lot cheaper than the Outback wilderness I test drove.

They’re neat cars, especially with the turbo! I’m glad you’re enjoying yours. 🙂

Great stuff as always. I have been doing a ton of research on the Mazda CX-5 and 50. People who own them have very few complaints and generally rave about how much they love them. The biggest selling point is no CVT. Many people have commented that the drive quality and handling are comparable to a luxury car. Also , for accessories, corksport is great for Mazdas. I can't open the link on this computer but thought I would let you and your viewers know about if you want to include a link.

I have a few videos of the CX-5s and 30’s in snow that I’ll make public from my membership program soon! I really like the 5’s! If you haven’t definitely check out the social media forums to hear everything owners have shared. Good insight on the after market accessories!

Nice looking, and like the color. I've got a 21 mazda 6, black/black, and I think, one of the nicest looking cars on the road. Not to mention, also drives beautifully..

That sounds like a nice car! I agree, every modern Mazda I’ve driven I have been quite impressed with. Thanks for watching! 🙂

I live in Huntsville, AL where they build these. I think my local dealership should wave the destination fee. I want a non turbo though.

Thats literally insane, lol. I hope you can convince them to drop that or revisit that. Non turbo Mazdas are just as good and likely more reliable!

0-60 with 91/93 oct is generally lower in my experience. 6.4-6.7 is my range depending on driving circumstances. Maybe the elevation you’re at does have a bigger effect. It is a turbocharged engine after all.

Was premium fuel used in this review or regular? Reviewers often mention the diff in power btwn premium and regular but not which grade they're using
@AutomotiveAnonymous208

Because this engine is tuned to be able to run on either 87 or higher I think in all of my turbo Mazda videos they’re probably only given 87. I even asked the GM about that a few weeks ago and he figured they were. Only the Miata’s get 91 from the dealer because that’s what they recommend.

Definitely test drive both! They each have their pros and cons. I’m hoping to get a review of the 70 around the first week of March, but we’ll see! 🙂

I see you are hawking aux lighting. Wondering how difficult it would be to find good quality fog lights for the CX-50, since Mazda doesn't even offer them as an accessory. NOTE: The CX-50 has a difference making (for my height - 5-11+) amount of rear leg room vs the CX-5. I could sit behind myself. In the CX-5, I had to put my legs apart and my knee hit the back of the front seatback when trying to get in. The CX-50 backseat access was better too. In neither car will you comfortably get 3 normal size adults in the back seat.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208

Yeah, I figured that was worth mentioning. I’m unsure if there are many purpose built aftermarket options yet, or just being creative in how you fit any aftermarket lighting. Thanks for sharing your insight and experiences with the seating!

Yes, I had three adults riding with me in my CX50 two weeks ago, and the back seat occupants were quite comfy! I am 5 foot 6, so I have my seat set on the medium side. I also raised my seat to accommodate the lower ride height of the seat in my CX50:)

I don’t know where you got your information from….the gas lid locks when the doors are locked and can be set I believe at 30,60 and 90 secs from locking the door….

Greetings, I test drove this car and a few others that included the Outback XT Limited. At 6’2 I noticed that headspace is a little tight. To me the CX50 beats the Outback for steering feel but the Outback has more comfortable seats better headspace, better visibility, and is faster. Both are really nice but will likely get the Outback sometime in the future. Thanks for the video!

My Forester was in the shop for 3 weeks on a warranty issue. The dealer gave me an Outback Wilderness. The best fuel economy I got was 24mpg and the worst gas mileage was 19mpg. I was fast and very comfortable, but we simply can’t afford the poor fuel economy.

is it faster than the xt outback? 0 -60. would you buy over outback?
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 7 ай бұрын
On the same density altitude day I think the Outback XT would run .2-.5s faster. And no, if I were to buy any Mazda SUV over my Outback it would be a CX-5 Turbo, I just personally like that one more and how it feels being so refined through its generation that started in 2016 (I think). But the Outback has much bigger backseats than either of these Mazdas if that matters to you. Otherwise the Mazdas feel very sporty and have a solid powertrain that I think will last a long time.

For your 0-60 timed run, were you running on premium or regular? I've driven the CX-5 turbo at a dealership, and suspect they were running regular (hence, the lower HP and torque ratings). The sales person told me he thought they fed it regular.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 7 ай бұрын
I would assume the same. It was probably just on 87. I’ve not googled to try and find any literature confirming that or if Mazda sends them to the dealer with premium on the turbo models. Probably not though to save the minimal expense difference. When these vehicles get sold from the dealers I’m hopeful the turbos get filled with premium, but also idk, especially where it could vary between each dealership.

Outback on the same day would have probably ran .2-.5 faster is my assumption. I also think the Outback feels noticeably faster.

Does the gas cap cover really not lock? I can't find any confirmation online about that
@AutomotiveAnonymous208
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 3 ай бұрын
I don’t know for sure. A few people have commented on this and other Mazda videos saying it locks after a minute. Or it can be turned on/off in the settings, or other similar answers that I haven’t remembered to test until after the fact. I also don’t know if it’s just proximity key related and doesn’t lock while I’m holding the key next to it, idk. I drive and film a lot of Subarus and they all lock, but other brands are hit or miss. Thanks for watching and sorry I couldn’t answer your question.

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 so I bought the car since making this comment and yeah, it locks when you lock the car. By default I think it stays unlocked for 90 seconds after you get out but just locking the car will lock all doors and the gas cap. Great car btw

If I CAN- I'll buy it-- and LIFT IT (with their factory 1.5 inch lift- nothing drastic).. I've seen these tested out and with the RIGHT tires-- the AWD is as good or maybe better than Subaru-- and it's GREAT for street- much better than most any other CUV!!! MPG is good for what it is... and tested by pro race driver it turns out to be BETTER on road than most others too--and tested by SARAH-N-TUNE, it climbed a hill that makes some trucks blush...(she does'nt "baby" them through tests).. so YES- I'd definitley buy it!!! I DO NOT like moon roof or whatever they're called-- so would have to have one without that.. unless I HAVE to.. 20" wheels on ANY vehicle is STUPID. for maany reasons-- so I'd get RID of those stupid things...

That would be sweet! I drove a few turbo and non turbo CX-5s and CX-30s through snow and Mazdas AWD is like you said legitimately quite good! I also filmed another turbo CX-5 the other day and the drive shaft rotates when in regular driving. I haven’t researched if it’s clutch based and at the rear diff attachment or closer to the tranny side of things. But either way, they’re well designed and built.
