A Master Automobile Technician reviews the all new 2023 Mazda CX-50. A new model from Mazda that's more towards the outdoors and off roading or is it?
So Should you buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50? In this video we check out the all new Mazda CX-50. We'll first start the technical review with good news. There's an option for a turbo engine and a non turbo engine.
Then we take a look underneath it and find a surprisingly small differential and even a bigger surprise with the rear suspension.
Then we take a look at the exterior the interior as we talk about things I like and things I didn't like about the 2023 Mazda CX-50

Love the channel but I must disagree, respectfully of course, with the very common complaint about the lack of touch screen. Personally, I really like that. The touch screens in our other vehicles always look dirty. They attract fingerprints and I agree with Mazda. They are very distracting. We have a 2017 Mazda in the family and using the rotary controls are very easy and intuitive to learn. In a matter of an hour or two, anyone will be a Master of It and it is far less distracting than trying to tap the screen over less than perfect road conditions.

I’ve had a Cx-50 for almost a year and 25k miles. I’ve taken it off the road and really put it to the test. I constantly hear issues people complain about with the size of the diff and the rear suspension. Here’s my take: the diff is fine, it’s a fwd based vehicle and only puts 50% of the power to the rear. The diff is fine for that and definitely not as expensive to maintain as a larger diff. I’ve had mine in the mud and have yet to get it stuck. Ground clearance is more of an issue than the diff. The reas suspension: it’s almost meaningless because the Cx-50 is one of the best handling vehicles I’ve ever driven. Had an issue where I had to basically moose test it and it was very planted. I’ve driven it down tail of the dragon with spirited driving and it was able to keep up with the sports cars in the corners. I also disagree about the screen. Is it a little more difficult to use at first? Yes, but once you get the hang of it, I actually prefer the way it is. You don’t have to take your eyes off the road to use the knob. I hate touch screens especially when manufacturers bury feature in different screens. other than that I agree and great video on the CX-50.

How about Subarus and Nissan's who are also from Japan?
@hochhaul
@hochhaul 5 ай бұрын
@@Gopinathk17 Toyota-philes have an inherent disdain for Nissan but they will quietly approve of Subaru since they share enough with Toyota. In reality there are some major quality issues affecting Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru, and Nissan. Look no further than the growing number of 2GR-FKS V6's failing out of the blue with cracked blocks or sudden oil pump failures. The 3rd gen Tacoma was "least reliable midsize truck" for 3 years in a row according to Consumer Reports. The 2022 Tundra has had a significant number of quality complaints, including engine failures at low mileage. Honda has had major issues plaguing their vehicles in recent years. Mazda is in the same boat, lots of complaints with newer powertrains. Subaru has had powertrain issues for years. They're all lowering their standard for oil consumption because it has become so common for their vehicles to burn nearly 1 quart every 1,000 miles. For the last decade Toyota has insisted that it's "normal" if your Toyota drinks 1 quart every 1200 miles. They all have this low standard and it's not uncommon. Nissan is not what it was 20 years ago. They're above Hyundai/Kia in quality but if you can afford to shop Honda/Toyota/Subaru/Mazda, consider it depending on the model. Some models by all these companies are garbage so study as much as you can.

We bought a 2023 CX50 Turbo Premium. It has about 500 miles now. We didn’t get the Premium Plus, because we live in Texas and we don’t need the heated seats in the back and we didn’t care for the all around view. This car is driven primarily by my wife. Her old car was a 2017 Honda Accord Touring with the V6 engine. Before that she drove a Lexus IS350. My wife really likes this Mazda. She likes the exterior and interior and you are right, the interior is more Lexus than Toyota. She has no problems with the infotainment neither. She loves how easily this car accelerates too. Negatives about this car. I find the highway ride to be much noisier than the Honda. I wish it had more cubbies in the interior and a little bit bigger backseats. Probably, because the Honda had huge seats. Yes, the suspension does ride stiffer, but it handle bumps much better than the Honda. The IS350 had even harder suspension and when we hit a bump hard it sounded really bad on the Lexus. So, we don’t mind the suspension. In general we are very happy with the car, even though it has a higher sticker price than a typical RAV4 or CRV, but the Mazda just feels more premium. For a few thousands more you get so much more.

@@dilakshandk77 depends what needs you may have. If you like a sportier feel and don't mind a little less room, then it is a good choice. The turbo makes it fast for this segment too. You should also consider the CX-5 because it is similar, but with less ground clearance but thousands cheaper. We just liked how the CX50 looked and didn't like how the CX-5 looked. On the other hand, if you want a comfortable ride with more space and don't care as much for the driving dynamics then there are many other options like the RAV4, CR-V or the Forrester. We love the exterior looks, the extra ground clearance, nicer interior than competitors and the turbo engine. I appreciate your comment about Mazda automatic transmissions.. It’s one of the best on the market for their price ranges. And I agree with you that every other auto maker should just do the same thing. Honda for example tweak their CVT almost every year, makes it “simulate gears” and all those gimmicks. No one still likes those, thats why they keep changing it. Makes me wish Mazda to just make their transmissions available for sale for other manufacturers.

Agree with you on 100%. Old dependable automatic transmission more reliable than new CVT crap, but some people's doesn't understand that, like this guy from comment up here. They will save about 1mpg but they will pay thousands dollars to replace they CVT crap right after their warranty will end, and all the time they will listen to this terrible constant sound of a roaring engine when picking up speed with CVT 😆. New turbo engines and CVT transmissions this is the main reason for me to stay away from new Hondas. I guess Mazda can take the same 8 speed automatic transmission like on new RAV4, they are good.

Great review especially of the interior. Yes this is Lexus /Acura quality. Love the simplicity of the button layout. You don’t have to go into the infotainment system to turn on the HVAC etc. leather seats and dash look amazing. 20 inch rims is overkill. Minimal rubber w thin sidewalls definitely gives a too bumpy ride. 17 inch rims would be great. A Ford Mustang Mach 1 has 19 inch rims ! 20 inch rims do not belong on this Mazda. I’m happy w my 2002 Lexus ES300 but if I was in the market for a car a Mazda would be right up there w Lexus/Toyota.

Great review. I just picked up the CX50 meridian edition. The Engine is great and the car is responsive, definitely zoom zoom; however, I would like to point out for those interested, the road noise (not air noise) is loader than expected (maybe from the aggressive tires). The factory stereo (Non-Bose) speakers are fair in the front, but lack quality in the back. XM radio is not installed and the navigation is installed, but you have to purchase a SD card separately. As for the display, I respectfully disagree, I like it and think it's well placed. It's adds to the driving experience. You don't have to move your head position by looking down to the display when you're driving 75 MPH. Minimal distraction, slight adjustment of your eyes and you see everything. The controls are handy and very functional. It only takes a few minutes to learn and understand them. Thanks again for the review, Subscribed!!

Some folks(e.g. Honda /Toyota /VW loyalists) may dislike its look, its 'old school' /conventional auto tranny, its official fuel economy ratings, its low tech rear suspension, it's relative lack of interior space, its lack of touch screen and even the Mazda brand in general, etc.... However, nobody can honestly disagree that the CX50 interior is the best in its price class in terms of design, material quality and workmanship/fit & finish by a huge margin.

Love their Skyactiv approach to overall design as well. I apologize if I missed you mentioning it for this new model, but it sounds like this is the same air-to-air cooled turbo and not an air-too-liquid cooled turbo, correct? Which of their models have the air-to-air cooled turbo? I presume a forthcoming CX-70 might have it, and I'm guessing that the CX-9 has it.

As an option, I could always contact at nearby Mazda dealer or my boss who I've worked with for +20 yrs. who owns 6 different Mazdas from different eras which he keeps in "showroom" condition (he loves them). On a side note, I own a 202 Chevy 2500HD with a naturally aspirated 6.6L Gas engine made of a cast iron block, etc, etc,. mated to their beefed up reliable history 6L90 6 spd. Both have been functioning so well (smooth and quiet); love it. With its new architecture (chassis, motor and trannie), I think it could run for hundreds of thousands of miles/kms with little to no major issues somewhat like a Toyota (achieving 16-17.5 mpg US Hwy. unloaded in spring/summer). I also love many of the features like the standard 6'10" box with exterior side steps, the G80 mechanical locker (simple system), the GM designed robust Side Mounted Bed Storage Boxes I purchased for each side (fit over the wheel wells) and the +3000 payload capacity. A truck a Toyota owner should consider if they need an HD truck. I own a 2020 CX-9 and recently test drove a 2022 Highlander Platinum with the previous generation 3.5L V6 gas engine. CX-9 third row is smaller, but its interior materials feel much more premium overall vs the Toyota, which was durable and practical but not beautiful or luxurious. The Skyactiv-G 2.5T is a spunky little engine with more "scoot" than Toyota's "gold standard" tried-and-true V6. For me, the most impressive difference was the brakes... The Mazda feels like it has WAY more stopping power and a far more responsive brake pedal than the Toyota, which I had to press much harder to stop during both normal and severe braking situations. Honestly I feel safer in the CX-9. And the CX-9's USA IIHS safety tests support that feeling for me.
