...And the only problem I have with German cars is they have the best driving dynamics, are built like tanks and usually have slightly thicker gauge metal panels/thicker paint and more sound deadening material, superb sound systems..and drive flawlessly when new! Buuuuut, unless you're more than a 6 figure earner and do not care what the maintenance and parts cost, and money is not an issue... those cars will break the bank after 4 - 6 yrs of ownership. Still great cars though!

New ones aren’t built like a tank. Not a single BMW could last in the shithole i reside in. Nor a single American or korean car for that matter either. The japanese are leagues and bounds more durable than others, it’s not even worth making any comparisons.

I'm a fan of BMW but many friends have had many EXPENSIVE repairs with BMW after the warranty expires, despite keeping up with maintenance at the dealership. I don't need the size of the GV80 so test drove a Genesis GV70 (base model) and was blown away. I'll likely be trading up my Mazda CX-5 for my first Genny. I might wait for year 2 of GV70 Hybrid, which should be reaching the shores within the next couple of years...

I could not get past the ugly and staid sterling wheel on the GV 80 - it’s awful- so I went with the X5 40i which delivered in December. Genesis finally fixed that on the 2025. Both good looking inside and out, I just slightly preferred the BMW, which also has the better engine. Also, Genesis and its dealers are not proven as a luxury brand, so I’d expect to see some sort of financial break from buying one, but there isn’t one. This is such a competitive segment with a lot of great choices. Love the X5 so far.

I can afford it and am not willing to drive a more boring car. Not yet anyway. I have said I will consider going back to something like Lexus when I am in my 80’s. At that point a PHEV or even full electric would make sense since I will generally only be driving to the grocery store and doctor’s office. Meanwhile, BMW, Audi and Porsche are what I crave. I got a great deal on a ‘25 X5 40i Silver anniversary edition with 900 miles on it, by virtue of the fact I did not get it from a BMW dealer. I saved around $15-$20k in terms of cost and trade in value (vs buying from a BMW dealer) and still retained all but three months of the warranty. That savings will pay for some maintenance! I traded in my ‘23 SQ5, which was a marvelous car, but I wanted something with more room. Next one will likely either be another X5 (especially if they dump the run-flats which I understand is going to happen) or a certified Cayenne. Possibly a Q8 which is a nice looking car, but the BMW is a lot cheaper. The X5 50e is enticing.
@andik232910 ай бұрын
As a German I always thought that the German cars are over engineered but they have a much better ride quality than any Japanese car. However the Asian cars have a higher quality in terms of longevity. As an example. The 3.0 l 6 cylinder in the Audi Q7 has 3 turbochargers. 2 normal and 1 electric, which uses 48 volts and can spin from 0 to 170000 rpm in 0.2 sec. They get a 3 mpg better gas milage than Toyota. Guess what brakes first. Toyota puts in a 4.0 l six or eight cylinder that is normally aspirated and uses regular gasoline. It has less horsepower and the gas mileage is worse but the engine lasts forever.
