Really nice to see a chair review from someone with a tailbone problem, that’s one of my biggest issues when sitting in a chair
@DADVICETV4 жыл бұрын
I bought one of these chairs and agree with everything you said. The cushion is far too thin for me so I have an extra cushion I sit on. I replaced the wheels with rollerblade style and it rolls amazingly smooth (Lifelong Wheels 600lb capacity set). I ordered padding for the armrest - those are also in need of some more give. I was surprised at how much plastic there is - including the base where the wheels connect. I was also surprised at just how much this chair weights. I am thrilled with how quiet it is and with the few additional accessories, it is very comfortable for long hours of computer work and video streaming.

fun fact: the chair padding used to be better (not wider though). I have my chair for 3 years and had to get the bottom replaced (which I paid for because it was out of warranty) and it was THE MOST uncomfortable thing. I got them to admit that they changed providers about a year ago. I am replacing the bottom for the 3rd (and last time) to see if I magically was sent out the ones from before the change. Just be aware that this IS a thing with the padding

At our office, we have the WorkPro Quantum 9000 with the headrest. They are excellent chairs. I enjoy the chair, and spend about 5-6 hours a day in one. I love the support, the headrest is great, and the arm rests are nice. Plus, the mesh everywhere keeps you nice and cool when you're sitting for longer periods. My only "con" is the full mesh seat. It's firm, but also feels too "bouncy" and some days I just don't feel comfortable in it all day.

Just bought this, now disassembling it to send back. Heavy fire retardant smell filled the whole house the first day. Pushed it outside to let it air out for 1.5 days, still no bueno. I bought the ErgoChair 2, and I absolutely agree with the statement that the cushion is too thin. I'm 230 pounds, and it doesn't take long for my butt to get really sore in this chair. I've been in the process for several weeks now, trying to return the chair. The customer service is horrible. I sent an email several weeks back, and have yet to receive a reply to that email. I took to their Facebook page, and through more than a week of back and forth, I think I'm at the stage now where the next message they send me should include return instructions, but I'm not 100% certain of that. My advice: Do not buy from Autonomous unless you are committed to keeping whatever it is that you buy.

Thanks for getting right to the point and sharing unvarnished pros and cons. Very helpful. I’ve heard the Autonomous chairs have hard plastics on top of the armrests that eventually become uncomfortable and get elbow indentations after weeks of several hour a day use. Have you noticed that? Is everything still good on this chair for you and would you drop 400 bucks on it over something else? I have a horrible back and am trying to only buy one chair to last me at least 5 years while providing good comfort and support. Thanks!
@AllenUnderwood5 жыл бұрын
So, I don't sit in that particular chair all that much - it's primary use is for recording the podcast which I do remotely - so I sit in it about 3-4 hours every two weeks. In terms of it holding up long-term, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be my first choice. So, at the $400 price-point, I would recommend the Quantum Pro 9000 - I mentioned it to someone else here and I've yet to make a review of it - what I can say about the Quantum 9000 is I've been using it for at least 4 years now and the thing is still in great shape and is more comfortable than the ErgoChair2. The only downside is it's not nearly as adjustable - for me it's quite a bit more comfortable so I'll take that over adjustments any day. I've also sat in the Herman Miller Aeron and to me, it's also not as comfortable as the Quantum only because where the mesh meets the frame - the frame is further back and cuts into my legs (I don't have tiny quads) - again, the Aeron is way more adjustable and to some that's enough to pick it over the Quantum - but to make a long story short - right now if I was in the $300-400 range, I'd still probably pick up the Quantum Pro 9000 (I also have a Leap 2 that I don't like as much) - www.amazon.com/WorkPro-Quantum-Ergonomic-Mid-Back-Chair/dp/B00JRE37Z0/ref=asc_df_B00JRE37Z0/?tag=cbnet-20 Hope this helps!
@AllenUnderwood5 жыл бұрын
@J Biggs - I was thinking about this again for some reason - but the "horrible back" statement - I wanted to share something personal that helped me in ways that I cannot describe. So, I'm over the 40 year old mark now which will mean something to people who go through their 30's and start feeling their bodies break down / change...so to the point, in my early 30's I had major back pain, and I'm talking about the kind when you get out of bed it takes you 10 minutes to work the kinks out just so you could stand up straight. So, while no doubt a good office chair will help, I'm not even kidding when I say that getting a good mattress changed my life for the better - I've been pain free in my back for going on 4 years now and it's literally just that one change I made. I went through 3 or 4 mattresses (which if you've ever looked is not a cheap endeavor). That said, the one I landed on improved my days in ways I can't express - this is not an affiliate link - just a friendly share - www.nestbedding.com/products/the-alexander-hybrid-signature-select-mattress?variant=12709966532 I have the plush (the softest one available). This is by no means a "cheap" purchase but it is FAR from the amount you can spend going into stores and trying out 500 mattresses to leave unsure with a lighter wallet. So again, if you haven't considered a mattress as a helpful solution to your back, I found that I thought it was chairs and all that hurting me...ultimately the chairs I sat in would just exacerbate the problem. The real issue was nightly damage with overpriced / uncomfortable mattresses. I hope this helps...but, the other comment I shared still stands for which chair I'd go with.

@@AllenUnderwood I was away on a business trip for the last week and am just now catching up on personal email, social updates, etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my original question and especially this follow-up response. To know that you continued to think about my comment about my back and formulate an additional response that suggests something to help me out is simply amazing. It is also very timely as I've been talking to my wife recently about finding a new mattress. Ours is a 12-14 year old memory foam mattress that was previously recommended to us. It was great for the first 5 years but now is just a dense slab that leaves us both uncomfortable. My back is truly horrible due to an accident and subsequent surgery to repair my spine. They did what they could but I'm left with significant back and nerve pain daily. I will definitely look at that Mattress you recommended. My wife wants to look at the Sleep Number bed, but it's really expensive. No matter what we buy will cost money, but my biggest concern is comfort and improved sleep. It sounds like the one you have may be the way to go. Thank you again - you made my day!

@@Jbiglin Happy to have put a smile on your face today. Mattresses are so frustrating because you really can't know how they will work for you without a good month of sleeping on them. I researched more than you can imagine before I went with nrst bedding. The fact that they had a 100 day trial period and a lifetime warranty are what ultimately made me give them a shot. I too looked at the sleepnumber beds and from what I could tell at the time the prices went up rapidly with different levels of toppers. @AllenUnderwood4 жыл бұрын
I'm 6'0 tall with a longer upper body than lower. The headrest seemed to go up decently behind my neck so I'd think that if you have an average upper body length then you should be ok. To share personal weight swings, I’m 6’0 and I’ve been all the way up to 248 (that’s about what I was when recording the autonomous review). Even at that weight the chair was comfortable. The only thing I would note is that as I got heavier I would wear jeans otherwise I could feel the chair tugging at my skin a bit which would irritate my tailbone situation. Jeans as opposed to basketball shorts resolved that for me. So in short I think it’d be a comfy chair for you but I’d definitely buy somewhere with a good return policy just in case...chairs are a very personal decision so it’s really difficult to say if it will 100% work for you. I can just say I’ve been very happy with it for 7 years. Here’s the review. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIHGeI1mpJ6qpqc

Hey guys! I'm really looking into this chair, but the MyoChair is cheaper. Does anyone have any input on the cheaper chair from Autonomous?

Good review. I feel like the abundance of plastic makes this a short term chair. Meaning you'll be looking for a new one within 5 years. They may get it 100% right by the time ErgoChair 5 is out.

Even Herman Millers are mostly plastic and aluminum

The chair is far from quiet. I have to be careful shifting in this thing if my wife is asleep in the next room. One small shift gifts you with a loud bang, and that's not fun for me or my wife. Making any adjustment other than vertical height is also incredibly loud. Backrest tilt lock? BANG! Seat tilt lock? KACHUNK! Headrest tilt adjustment? CLACK! Every adjustment reverberates through the house. It's to the point where I never adjust my chair anymore save for the arm height which I have stuffed pieces of paper in the slot with the mechanism to keep it from being similarly loud. But like I said, shifting still makes loud noises and that makes me sad :(

Yeah, that stinks. I can say that I've never had that issue so maybe they have some quality control issues. Pre-COVID, this is the chair I'd record in for our podcast and it's very quiet - but I don't use it as my daily driver so I don't have the regular wear and tear that every day users would have.
@Agent40544 жыл бұрын
@@codingblocks Ah yeah. I've had it since April 2016 and have been work from home for the past 5 years. It gets about 12-18 hours of use/day. It had been fine for the first year, but has steadily taken a turn for the worse since then. Latest development being the arm pads have begun to split open around the edges revealing the foam inside and the split edges scraping against my arms. Had to find covers to avoid that. Just biding time while I save up for an Aeron at this point.

@@Agent4054 Yeah man - that stinks. You'd at least expect that a $300+ chair should last you more than a couple years and still be quality. Heck, the other chair I just reviewed I've had for nearly 7 years and it's still amazing - it is my daily driver and I think I spent like $350 on it.

Autonomous ergochair only has a 2 year warranty which says a lot about the company and their confidence in the chair. Get a chair with a real 10+ year warranty!
@RealFreezd4 жыл бұрын
$370 for a chair with 2 year warranty from a 5 year old company - compared to a $1,400 Aeron with a 12 year warranty from a 100-hundred-plus year old company. I'm going with the Aeron
@AllenUnderwood4 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with the logic there, but I can say that for me Aeron's are not all that comfortable - unbelievably adjustable, yes, but the frame that holds the mesh on the seat is very hard and cuts into my legs pretty badly. For me, there are better options than the Aeron especially given the price point. That said - there's no question about the build quality of them. They are built to last.

clearly you got this chair for free, its total rubbish, ive now had to go to physio because of this chair.
@codingblocks4 жыл бұрын
Nah, we paid full price. That seems extreme that you've had to go to physical therapy because of it, but, honestly, I'd imagine any chair that's not the right fit for each individual person can be harmful as we're all different shapes and sizes. I hate to hear that it hurt you - I have not had that experience, although, like I said in the review, the seat pad is far from comfortable.

Looks really cheap. Good luck with using it after the 2 year warranty runs out. You get what you pay for; get a Herman Miller Aeron. Had both of mine for over 15 years now. Still haven't found anything better.
