another use for that tool .. i used it to find where water was leaking into my car interior ( seeing smoke leak from about 1/2 dozen places around the tailgate was a large clue ) ... BTW if you're doing this make sure you use a water based smoke liquid , the oil based ones leave a lovely film inside the windows

Thank you for the review. I've been researching these Autool smoke machines and I've come to the conclusion that they would be great for intake manifold/exhaust leak detection but disastrous for an EVAP system unless the tool was modified with a step down pressure regulator to

100% correct these cheap machines put out 15 psi and damage evap system. Has to be max 3psi preferably 1-2 psi

@@sheerwillsurvival2064 , any suggestions to step the pressure down? I've recently purchased one of these and having issues controlling the pressure.

@@jeffreygwinn5081hello, what's your experience with the product? is the issue of adjusting the pressure resolve by manually adjusting the flow valve manually to the lowest? I am thinking of buying one too in the future.
@jeffreygwinn50819 ай бұрын
@@bathanmark , It would still build up pressure even on its lowest setting. I ended up buying one from them thats specifically for evap systems. One that only builds up to .5 psi, or something like that.

@@jeffreygwinn5081 thanks for the reply. Yes you are right I saw those unit that got 0.5psi pressure only. They said even for other leak detection is more than enough .

one I’ve been looking at has a dial for the smoke and has a max output of 0.46psi same brand and only 87 bucks USA. Only down fall I seen was it doesn’t have a built in air pump.. The model number for it is SDT103..

I actually used one similar to this a week ago on an old mini. Great bits of kit. Now the smell from the smoke lingers however. Good video, 👍 from me!

It does doesn't it. I came back into the workshop the other day and went "what's that smell?". Then I remembered. :)

Question for you. I seen you turn it way down all the way tell it stopped putting out air and smoke. If you turn it down to say where it’s barely putting anything out and you plug it off does it continue to build pressure same as when it was turned up all the way? Or does it only build a certain amount and stop like 1-3psi?

I looked at the different versions. Some are just on and off buttons, no dials or gauges. Then there is one a little cheaper but doesn't have adjustable flow. I've found the adjustable flow means you can adjust how dense you want the smoke to be. :)

Will nothing is going rusty in your workshop anytime soon. (jokes aside I have heard that baby oil and or paraffin makes stuff rust faster, eff it ymmv) Does it ignite easily? Don't tell me you didn't test it!! Flames man.. Can't pass that opportunity like that up. Hahaha If it does ignite easily I'm going to build one.

Liquid paraffin making things rust faster? That's a new one to me. It's literally a thin oil. I haven't tested it (yet) but the thought did cross my mind as I'd just turn oil into an aerosol. :)

@@DavidMcLuckie follow up video with fire? Cheeky request there. I wonder what other fluids behave like. Paraffin and rust thing is possibly a bit of an old wives tale.. Apparently it absorbs moisture from the air when used as a solvent on greasy machine ways, chains and other surfaces or left in cans. Diesel does and gets things growing in it so maybe its a thing. I just use it as a solvent, heating oil and a fuel additive for DIY tvo for old engines. That and polishing the kids after bath time. (different brands mind you Hahaha) My money is on that it washes surfaces and once gone it obviously leaves them unprotected leaving them to the evil moisture in the air. I did read it on some forums with some old machinist boys carping on and bickering amusingly about it as a side thread to an actual discussion. I'm from the UK with two kids so I know all about that slippery smelly baby oil got several bottles knocking about. Years ago I had reason to look into baby oil chemically for specific plastic compatibility at one point. Why make a product that makes children so much easier to drop when they wriggle? Thins the population herd I suppose. (sorry.. slightly evil joke there) 😂

Hmmm. Very slightly interesting. Would've been better/more interesting if you showed the fix of the leak from the Intercooler David.

That's the thing though. The leak was tiny and wasn't the source of my problem. It was barely visible. But the tool let me check the rest of the inlet manifold, where there were no leaks.
