Is this a high cost related operation on a mazda 6 2.0 diesel 136cp from 2004, or it doesen't brings much pain to your head and pocket?
@baladar1353 Жыл бұрын
He or they do(es)n't really care, as the picture says. 2 years passed, but nobody answered. I can tell you that this might be a money-consuming operation if you can't find a parts dealer who can deliver the stuff for you. In my country, the car parts dealers don't even move their fingers for small parts for the Mazda.

The MZR/Duratec engines have solid tappets, not hydraulic lifters or lash adjusters. As a Mazda tech of considerable time, I've never seen the tappet clearance open up, it almost always closes up as valve seats naturally recess into the head - I've certainly never come across a problem whereby there's lash adjuster noise in the top end of an MZR/Duratec engine. Personally, I'd be digging deeper and looking for oil supply issues to the top of the head as such wear is terribly unusual.

Hi mate I've seriously considered a new oil strainer maybe new chain if I keep the car long enough .....just had huge work done long story but had turbo kit head gasket rockers cams chain kit replaced obvs new oil ..I've heard some do their oil strainer at 120k.or less
@byteoncomputerservices80542 жыл бұрын
@@kevinhancock4064 I've never seen a blocked oil strainer. The only reason an oil strainer would block up is if the oil hasn't been changed regularly, or the strainer is clogged with metal fragments. In both cases I'd probably be looking deeper than just a blocked oil strainer.

Hello, bit late on the topic. I got a mazda 6, 2.2 mzrcd (r2aa) second hand with about 110K kms, regularly serviced at mazda, company car i suppose, mind you the car just had a major 100k service done like 1yr half before me buying it . I.ve heard of this oil strainer issue, so first time i changed the oil in it, i removed the oil pan to check for metal bits. Nothing worrying was found, then i stuck my finger around and in the oil strainer (i believe is called, basically where oil is sucked through) to check for "glued" bits to the metalic mesh/filter, and nothing was found. Cleaned the oil pan, put it back, tightened the screws one by one equally ( you dont want to do one or 2 all the way, then the rest, the gasket you.ll put on it will go everywhere and you clearly dont want it inside of the pan). I.d say is an easy job, bit messy and make sure car is not driven for like 1-2 hours prior parts can be very hot. Keep in mind, i am not a mechanic, just DIY passionate. I guess it depends on the way it was driven and cared for, short and city journeys where your dpf does have time to regenerate contaminates the oil, lowering its properties, then parts where out, metal shreds appear and go in the pan, unless they block the channels. I service my car every 8-10K km, i do city and country drives. Due to oil levels rising, i had the dpf cleaned which was 70-80% blocked at 160K km, and had a 0.6-1.0l/100 in consuption and bye bye oil rising. If you check my service book, no service since 100K kms, but my oil is never dark dark, always a dark green-ish.

Just replaced the tappets on mine. There is no way to adjust them so they have to be replaced. Mazda no longer sells the parts for older models but the ford ones for the 2.0/2.3 are cross compatible. You will have to measure the cam tappet clearance with angled feeler gauges and order new ones that have the correct clearance. 0.025 to 0.035 mm if I remember correctly. Don’t quote me on that though.

It also could be a worn timing chain or timing chain guides. Causes do to not using the recommended oil, not changing the oil at 3,000 to 4000 miles not the Manufacturers 10,000 mile oil change recommendation, or driving the car like a race car driver under hard acceleration over time. Mazda Engines are reliable that doesn’t require a new engine replacement. If misused will only require minor work

Take off the valve cover, then measure the distance between the lobe of the camshaft and the tappet with a feeler gauge, on each of them.

@TheAgentAaron9 ай бұрын
Sure he did, just not directly. One can deduce that the bucket lifters, or tappets, have aged and worn too thin creating a millimeters space between the lifter and the valve creating the noise heard. I have a 21 M3 today but I torn down my 2008 and attempted to look into this. Frankly, I found it to be a challenge. The concept is simple enough to grasp. Actually addressing the issue is difficult without hands-on training experience. You can purchase the tool to determine widths of valves and lifters at common auto parts stores. I'd you go deeper and actually remove the springs, keepers and valves, it gets real exciting. Putting the keepers back in so that they correctly hold the spring, is a b1txh. I developed my own tool technique using a 10mm deep well and the handle of a tap & dye tool with a length of a an old head bolt. It was interesting to say the least. If a keeper goes flying when attempting to reinstall, you'll never find it. They price at about $5 at Mazda service. Anyway, yeah, tappet is worn too thin. That's the issue to resolve. They are sized like .460, .462, .464, eyc.
