We delve into Cheap and effective heat barrier for car interiors. With the Summit Racing supplied Super Insulator from Bonded Logic, we saw a 40 to 50 degree temperature drop. The price is right on this insulation and it is easy to install once the front and rear seats are removed.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you guys for developing these videos- a lot of help for us out here that don’t get the exposure to different materials- I’m working on a nice 63 1/2 falcon futura hardtop and will be doing this exact work this winter- sorry people have to throw negative comments at you guys- unfortunately we have too much of that crap in today’s world- just remember that for every negative comment there are a thousand more of us positives out there- keep up the good work brother- From up in northern Minnesota - take care

Adding insulation on the floorplan, firewall behind the engine and even beneath the headliner should help reduce heat and noise. This is especially needed for cars with air cooled engines, such as Porsche and other sports cars.

We did an episode on Lizard Skin that included temp test: Episode 3 Lizard Skin Sound and Heat Control Autorestomod. As we said in this episode, we like certain products for certain things. This product works great in the interior, but not inside of doors where water intrusion is rife. Lizard Skin would be better in the doors and inner fenders etc. and as an additional heat barrier on the pans maybe under the car.

Reflective heat shields over the exhaust pipes (like never cars have) are great. Use flashing aluminum spaced 1/4" from floor boards. Or stainless... Even foil tape works but is not permanent. Dynamat stuff on the bare firewall first helps the sound a lot.

POR -15 is a humectant, and cures with the moisture and extra oxygen molecules on surface RUST. water can and does creep under primer that's coated with por15. I also use it in low lying areas, bare metal thats rough, or surface rust... Might be ok for your location but its meant to bond to metal... Good video and Ill be trying the bonded logic, thanks! PS, No Gloves with POR15 ?? OMGGG you are a brave soul..

Thanks for the tips on the POR-15. Normally we do remove the paint, the pans were already in epoxy primer from the body shop. Jeff decided on the POR-15 as a bit of additional insurance. Jeff was out of gloves and did live to regret the lack of gloves.

My Miata has very little to no insulation under the carpets and there's a lot of heat coming through the transmission tunnel. I've read that pretty much any insulation will quiet it down in there a bit too (kind of a secondary concern with a flip top. I'm definitely looking to make this car cooler in Florida summers. I think it would fit in the back of that big Ford too...

You guys probably don't want to hear about science and stuff, but a radiant barrier MUST have one side of the foil touching NOTHING or else it will simply conduct the heat through the next material touching it. Otherwise, you're just stalling the heat transfer. Maybe it's enough to get from point A to point B before complaining about the heat.
@michaelcollins1899
@michaelcollins1899 6 жыл бұрын
Don Kingery if nothing else, its an awesome and i mean awesome sound barrier. For that alone, its worth the money especially on a muscle car with 400+ hp and 3 inch exhaust...not to mention it does run cooler. Eventually ,yes, after hours, you are right, its all the same temp. But think about 99% of the people using this type product. They are building a weekend touring car to go to car shows, restaurants, beach, etc. Most of these trips are under an hour. It slows the heat transfer down considerably so much that in that hour , the car is definitely easier to cool.

very nice, a question; is it also effective to use armaflex sheets instead?

Baker Akram hmmm maybe. Id consider the flame or burn factor and in that case, rule out armaflex. The purpose built car insuation has a very low flame and smoke factor. The armaflex as i am a hvac tek can easily be chared with torch and puts out an all but deadly horrible black smoke. I cant imagine a whole car of armaflex smoking!!! The rescue team couldnt do anything to save you !!! Ok the last part was a bit of a stretch but it would be a much higher degree of challenge to get to you with a 30 foot wall of smoke thats black as any black youd ever imagine. I know this is all worse case scenario, but for that alone, id stick with a few more bucks and put the stuff in that has passed the torch test

While I couldn’t find that mirror at NPD, I did find it at Summit Racing. www.summitracing.com/parts/dak-mmr1. I’ve also found one very similar made by Gentex for a little cheaper.

Did you use any adhesive to adhere the insulation to the floor, if so what did you use? TY in advance.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 10 жыл бұрын
We used metal duct tape to adhere the panels to the floor. We don't like to use glue on this stuff just so that it would be easier to remove if we need to do any work on the floors.

Is there some kind of adhesive on the bottom?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 8 жыл бұрын
No, you can use an adhesive but the metal duct tape works really well to keep it in place. With the carpet set in there will be no real movement. We prefer to not put any adhesive down to make it easy to do any work on the carpet or what ever.

We'll say that the cab of the wagon was noticeably quieter with the carpet and Tru Mat. But we didn't do a Db test before the install...and even if we had it would have be flawed as the car has enough side window air leaks to qualify them as screen doors. And don't get us started on the back window that is for the time being perpetually down due to window run gasket failure. We will say this: All of these products have their place. We used Dynamat Xtreme in some areas (over the Flowmaster Mufflers) and plan to use Lizard Skin sound and heat control on the underside of the rear facing seat area since this will be seeing a lot of foot traffic when we are shooting car-to-car video.

Anybody know if there is a way I can sound deaden and insulate without having to get straight at the sheet-metal? There is plywood drilled into the sheet-metal floor of my Class B motorhome with a ton of stuff on top of the wood, so itd be great if I didn't have to demolish the place.. can I just do it on top of the wood or does it have to make contact with the sheet-metal?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 10 жыл бұрын
If the motorhome is carpeted you could possibly put this stuff down without having to do anything but take up the carpet.
@oldowl4290
@oldowl4290 9 жыл бұрын
I would just pull up the carpet down to the plywood and then install MLV sheeting (Mass Load Vinyl) which can be purchased in large rolls and with variable thickness. Just be aware that the thicker you go, the more cost and more weight it will add. Check out SuperSoundProofingSales dot com. Their prices seem to be very reasonable.
